::rubs temples:: My many thanks go out to my hubby, Nesuril, as well as my good friends Roseworm, Kyur, and Morielian, without who's invaluable help, dedication, and suggestions, I would still be stuck without ideas. I also owe a thank you to everyone on Druzzil Ro. Somehow word got out I'm working on this quest (must have been my hundreds of explanations in auction what the quest was) and I have recieved at least a hundred tells on possible suggestions for the combines. People I never even knew were keeping an eye out for Tome of Miragul, and I must have had about 50 tells before I even logged onto these boards the morning after the patch that the Tome of Miragul started dropping, complete with information where it was coming from. There's still half a dozen people who send me tells every hour asking me if I've solved this quest yet. I don't think I'll be the first, I am sure there are people here who are more dedicated than I am, or perhaps just lucky, but dangit, I'll be first on Druzzil!
I have added the following to my "DNC" list, it would take far too long to fill out everything, but trust me when I say I've toyed with them in nearly every possible combine that seemed reasonable:
Celestial Temper, Celestial Essence, Oily Goo Secretion, Glob of Tar, Crystalline Silk, Crystalline Silk Mesh, Words of Endurance, Stamina, Endurance of the Boar.
Continuing to truck along. Will post more results soon, must sleep now.

Thus far, two of the combines involving quest items from the Assistant have failed. Both returned the quest item. No report on the others yet.
[/b]Question #2- On the seafoam sugar, I see people have made 5 different types of combines. So I assume you get that item back, even on a success? You couldn't possibly have had 5 miragul tomes.[/B]
You do not get the sugar back on a successful combine. The theory is that you need the Purified mana, but it's not yet confirmed. If it turns out the phylactery can only be made with one type of palatable mana, and you have another type, you'll probably have to get another Tome of Miragul for another sugar. Again, this is not yet confirmed.

Master Fisherman (200) and possibly Drunk (2xx + 20%), not sober enough to tell!
Lightbringer, Redeemer, and Valiant servant of Erollisi Marr
The fact that the purified version becomes no-drop is a good indication that it is a tradeskill item for the phylactery. I would be more curious to see if the sugar can be lost on a failure. That would be nightmareish.

Been skimming through the posts to see if this has been tried yet... as far as this thread, it hasn't as far as I saw... But has anyone ACTUALLY tried using palatable mana vials in the combine for the insert? if it fails, you know it's recipe, if it doesn't, you win! I dunno, just thought I'd see if someone has played with it at all yet. Seems sensible
Remember, Miragul made one, and he did NOT TRAVEL to Luclin. In fact, I don't think he made it to Planes of Power either. Else he would have tried to become immortal / a god by kicking Quarm in the shins and unlocking Zeb.
Yes. I tried Essence of Rathe, the component for researching spells.
::gets out the shears::
*snip*Assistant Jeyular says 'Excellent work. This book is not easily come by. This next step is the first of creating components for the phylactery iteself, the silk insert. This is the base inside of the box and it must be made of durable stone silk to withstand the energies within a phylactery.*snip*
I know exactly what you mean about thinking the palatable mana is separate. It's got weight 0.1 ... this guy says the silk insert is the first.. but you know? While I was screaming about DNCs ... Kyur pointed out this text.
*snip* Once you have acquired and lacquered a precious garnet with the blood of a vampire, then apply the garnet and the five other pieces you've created to the decorated box and you'll have your prize.*snip
So, thus confirming, we were given no duplicates or methods in making palatable mana beyond the dog bone the assistant threw at us.... we need 5 pieces + the lacquered garnet.

Ok, silly question, has anyone bothered to start over in testing the DNCs ? Since they quietly fixed the tome drop, there is a large possiblility they did the same to the silk insert combine. I don't know about anyone else, but when I read what the assistant says about what is needed, I keep thinking all it takes is some number of silk + the pattern he gives you... would be really frustrating it was that simple of a combine that they fixed, but was never solved because no one went back to check... I'm still trying to get the books myself.
Oh, and about Miragul traveling about... he never actually had to get these books, these are our "paymet" to the Oracle for the info. And, we need Veluim to make it, so why would it be hard for Miragul to know about Velious ? After all, the info Miragul used was given to him by Trak, who lives in Kunark, and it was before the days of Kunark as well... besides, I'm sure a master of all the arts of magic has his ways.
I'm wondering more and more if a kiln is used in this. Considering a kiln is supposed to harden something, perhaps that's a way to make it more durable. Just a thought...

EDIT: Just tried every combo of water, sculpting tools, 1 silk, 2 silks, and each clay and no luck in either pottery wheel or kiln. All were DNC

All my combines have been tested and done since the Tome started dropping again.

... I never argued he was in Velious. I argue that he never reached Planes of Power, or Luclin. (See Diaku blood suggestion above) Recall that Miragul, while off doing his little search for immortality, had buddies called Heretics, who blew the Kerrans to the moon. There's not really any logical way he could have reached Luclin to get any components from it, perhaps planes of power, but I have yet to see ANY in game proof he made it that far, beyond elemental armor being named after him. And that just means he was a legendary necromancer of his kind, note that Romar is in the Temple of Solusek Ro, not planes of power, and enchanter armor is named after him. And of course he knew about Kunark and Velious long before we did. /shrug So?
Where did you get the information that Miragul obtained his info from Trakanon? Just curious. =)

'Thank you for this addition to my library. You're drawing close to the end of your quest. Only two more steps to complete and you will be glad to hear they are no more complicated than the first ones. The lids of the phylactery must be hinged and as no portion of the item can be of ordinary manufacture. You must fashion clasps of sealing. This mold will help you, but the Velium bits used must be enchanted and combined with a seemingly mundane object that yet holds great powers over the soul of an undead and weighs it down, anchoring it to this world. Undead elves especially are held here in this way. The results are then carefully filed smooth. Finally, the volume I require from you in exchange for the last information you require is the spellbook of the greatest living wizard on Velious.
ok this part has been bugging me. could it be the stone silk insert needs to have some kind of mold/pattern/sketch so we can make two lids? i might be reaching here but the plural lids keeps gnawing at the back of my elven mind
I thought of that to, but look at some of the other ones. They also mention that part that its used for, but none of them use a mold of any sort. I doubt this is any different really.
