    • I believe they meant the components for the combines. =)

      • something to consider

The third step requires the construction of the soul net -- the silken binding for inside the lid of the phylactery. This requires delicate and balanced threading that only the ablest fletchers can perform.

the third step is a test of your fletching skill, but the first combine is a tailoring combine, making it the only portion of the quest to involve more than one skill.

what are the chances that the containers for the stone silk and phase silk combines got inverted when the code was entered?

like everyone else, no tome of miragul here, but anyone want to start trying the stone silk combines in a fletching kit?

However, final combine is Fletching for that step. Like a normal fletching combine, the string is tailored. I doubt this is any different really. No, this is the tailoring, another tradeskill might be used, but only for a subcombine.

          • I know some of these have been tried before, but in the interest of thoroughness I attempted the following combines:

            Insert Pattern + 1-4 Stone Silk + Silver/Gold/Platinum Thread + Vial of Viscous/Cloudy/Clear/Distilled/Purified Mana

Then I repeated all of the above combines + Embroidery Needle for a total of 120 different combinations all of which were DNC.

Then just in case Tammerlane was right, I tried the following combines in a fletching kit (all DNC):

            Stone Silk + Stone Silk
Embroidery Needle + 1-4 Stone Silk
Insert Pattern + 1-4 Stone Silk
Embroidery Needle + Insert Pattern + 1-4 Stone Silk

            • I did a few of the combines Taadieri did last night too, and I tried some other variations:

Stone Silk + Celestial Essence + Insert Pattern = DNC
In variations up to 4 stone silk and 4 celestial essence (up to 8 total slots)
With and without an Embroidering Needle
              With 1 Silver/Gold/Platinum thread added

              I also tried combonations of:
Stone Silk (1-4) + Ethereal Curing Agent (1-4) + Insert Pattern
Again with and without threads and Embroidering Needle

I looked into the thought someone has about all the components being Wt. 0.4 as well, but it seems the pattern only holds true for the items that were added for this quest (the patterns/molds and the finished pieces). The exception is the Palatable Mana, both Cloudy (according to Magelo) and Purified are wt 0.1 ... gives more credit to the Assistant's words "I will enlighten you with the secret of palatable mana, which is required to create a phylactery, but also has independent uses as well."

Still trying, my next thought is maybe we need some kind of glue to adhere the insert to the base of the box? Or perhaps some sort of anchor like the Shadewood Clips?

                • tried things

Ya well i really really thought i had it this time. I was looking in lucy for items with the name stone in them and came across stonefish. I went to bb fished one up and brewed it with water to make butcher block essence. Didnt work with up to 2 stone silks alone and with the pattern.

I also tried skin like diamond , skin like diamond plus cele essence up to 2 silks plus or minus the pattern

I tried using blue diamond power to make a cure using it with pabla bark and kiola sap with no sucess

I also tried coblot cod oil with 2 silks with and without the pattern

I tried to brew butcherblock essence with water, cockartrice oil, pabla bark and kioloa sap. No luck

I guess its possilbe its one of these with a needle but i doubt it. I really thought for sure something with stonefish was the answer

I also think there has to be something very simple we are missing. Nothing in this quest has been all that tricky, i dont understand why the silk combine is so hard to figure out

I think its odd that the patable mana is .1 but it wont combine with the silk with or without the pattern up to 2. I also tried this in an oven with no sucess.

I also think its odd that baking was left out of the quest but i dont know how to make use of it.

                  • Ok, time for me to jump in here. I've just now got the 1st book, so couldn't try any of the combines. But now have all books and all parts to play with.

Question #1- Do all the Lore/no-drop items from turning in books get returned on fails? I'd hate to need another Firebone notebook if I failed a combine. . .

Question #2- On the seafoam sugar, I see people have made 5 different types of combines. So I assume you get that item back, even on a success? You couldn't possibly have had 5 miragul tomes.

I have 200 in all skills, so hope that I can collect pieces and do the combines until I succeed, without needing more book collecting.

P.S. thank you for LoY dyes, as that new robe color is just NOT my style.

                    • I think I'm going nuts, hehe.

                      In a Tanaan Forge:
Stone Silk (1-4) + Small Container Base Mold = DNC
Stone Silk (1-4) + Container Base Mold = DNC
Stone Silk (1-4) + Large Container Base Mold = DNC
The previous with a Flask of Water
The previous with 1-4 Celestial Essence

So then I tried the clay jars (they have combine buttons):
Stone Silk (1-2) in a Small Clay Jar = DNC
Stone Silk (1-4) in a Medium Clay Jar = DNC
Stone Silk (1-4) in a Large Clay Jar = DNC
(a large clay jar has 8 slots, I only have 4 silks)

I thought of the metal containers and made one of each size, but they don't have combine buttons.

Back in a planar tailoring kit:
Stone Silk (1-4) + Shadewood Clips = DNC
Stone Silk (1-4) + Shadewood Clips + Insert Pattern = DNC
Stone Silk (1-4) + Kunzar Glue = DNC
Stone Silk (1-4) + Kunzar Glue + Insert Pattern = DNC
Stone Silk (1-4) + Kunzar Glue + Insert Pattern + Celestial Essence (1-4) = DNC
Stone Silk (1-4) + Thunder Salmon Glue = DNC
Stone Silk (1-4) + Thunder Salmon Glue + Insert Pattern = DNC
Stone Silk (1-4) + Thunder Salmon Glue + Insert Pattern + Celestial Essence (1-4) = DNC

I can't find any other tradeskill flagged 'glue-like' items beyond Sticky Lotus Sap... anyone else have an idea? Maybe Glob of Tar... I don't have time to camp WL for it today.

Stone Silk (1-4) + Words of Endurance = DNC
Stone Silk (1-4) + Words of Endurance + Insert Pattern = DNC
Stone Silk (1-4) + Words of Duration = DNC
Stone Silk (1-4) + Words of Duration + Insert Pattern = DNC
Stone Silk (1-4) + Words of Duress = DNC
Stone Silk (1-4) + Words of Duress + Insert Pattern = DNC
I dunno why I tried duress, doesn't make much sense now.

                      Stone Silk (1-4) + Ichor (1-4) = DNC
                      Stone Silk (1-4) + Ichor (1-4) + Insert Pattern = DNC
This is the poison component Ichor by the way.
Something interesting, a search on lucy for Ichor turns up a set of armor that is "Ichor Cured"... lore goes something like 'cured by the slime of a gelatinous cube.' Maybe there's a slime that could be our curing agent?

Here's something too, Curing Kit. It seems to be the newbie armor kit for alot of classes, but maybe it's for our combine too?

                      In a Curing Kit:
                      Stone Silk (1-4) = DNC
Stone Silk (1-4) + Insert Pattern = DNC
I obtained a Curing Kit by saying 'What suit of clothing" to Salmekia Trehert in the SFG druid guild.

Ok, one last idea. Maybe the combine isn't with a curing agent but a treatment of some kind, like the Treated Silk Fibres recipie. Maybe an oil is our missing ingredient... I'll see if I can't round some up and post my results.

#1 - Only the lore / no drop items from turning in the books get returned. I failed a couple of the phase spider silks before the last 2 patches. Thus far, I have failed nothing else, and my lowest skill is 162 Tailoring + 5% modifier.

#2 - You do not get the item back on success, and Miragul tomes drop quite regularly off ancient constructs. I assume different people tried different brewing methods.

And for they who asked, my skills were:

Palatable Mana: Brewing 182 +5%, did not fail
Clasps of Sealing: Smithing 184 +5%, did not fail either sub combine or final
Crucible of Containment: Pottery 162 +5%
Soul Net: Tailoring at 162 +5% .. I failed 3 combines before the patch, but strangely, none after the past 2 patches. Fletching 200 + 5%, did not fail final combine
Blood Lacquered Ruby: Jewelcraft 177 +5%, did not fail

About the same luck I had with my shawl, thus far.

Forgive me if it was already mentioned somewhere before. As the silk is suppose to hold the soul, has anyone thought to use the spell: Bind Affinity ? Its sounds promising.

                          • Or maybe even Spell: Gate.

                            • I've been thinking: maybe it's possible to create the Seafoam Sugar ourselves in an alternate way? You can't use that to bypass the quest anyway, since you are stuck with the book order. Maybe a combination of Mugs of Sea Foam, with Cup of Sugar, and maybe one or more other items (possibly)?

                              • Regarding the sea foam sugar I've tried the following:

(1-3) mug of sea foam + (0-3) cup of sugar + (0-3) frosting
in mixing bowl and oven. DNC of course.
