Exactly what I said - no one has done a true confirmation of this guy's faction - there's only been one report of a non-light race dealing with this guy - a dark elf wizard - we have no clue if this dark elf wizard has ever done any faction work with any halfling factions be it through intent or accident nor do we know his religion - it's quite possible that he's agnostic.

We need someone with no starting halfling faction or someone with confirmed trashed halfling faction to con this guy and try to do the quest with him - he may be willing to deal with a dubious agnostic DE but he might attack a troll shaman of Cazik Thule.

There's already a long list of folks who've trashed thier oracle faction farming robes - if this halfling is also a sticking point for faction for certain race/class/god combos, then if Sony decides to reset everyone's oracle faction to convience all of the lights and nuets who've hunted him, then they'll also need to knock this halfling into indifferent for those of us he doesn't like just because.

That's the problem with playing a lighty or a neut - you folks are mostly totally and utterly clueless as to the fun of faction work.

If I am not mistaken, several people with absolutely no faction work whatsoever, who are evil race, evil god, who are downright KOS with halflings, conned indifferent to this halfling. My troll SK friend turned in a sand of ro to test just fine.


Stop me if I'm wrong. The faction for the halfling is not the issue we should be looking at. Finding the Tome of Miragul is.

In regards to dartain the lost. I have been wondering for a while if its possible that his neighbors are there friendliest of people since the revamp.

If i remember correctly wasnt the broken golem in fear getting killed for a while by the other denziens of fear? Is it possible that dartain is also getting prematurely wacked.

There has been a significant amount of time since this has gone in and forgive me if i am wrong but it looks like no one has found him up and GMs are claiming hes still in there. This could be a possible explanation, stranger things have happened in the game after all

Finally, after six kills on the Ghoul I have my quest item.

The first four kills of the Ghoul of Takish-Hiz were in Oasis of Marr, of which the first three were during the night time. The fourth was in the morning or during the day.

After a few fruitless days of weeding through the roamers in Oasis and South Ro, I finally settled for South Ro and tried keeping it clear (swapping between just slaying any Undead I found, to pulling about every single mob in the desert area and AoEing them). I got the Ghoul twice this way, yesterday. The first was when it was late afternoon / night, the second one (which finally dropped the anchor) was during the middle of the day.

I've confirmed that he has about 3250 HPs and regens around 75-80 HPs per tick.

Oracle faction info:

Started at apprehensive. Did tome quest got 5 tomes. Oracle eats tome with no faction at apprehensive. Used invis trick and got 4 fac hits for 4 books. Still apprehensive.

Ghoul info:

Cleared northern area of oasis for an hour or so and no ghoul. Gave up and went to sro. Cleared desert area with tracker friend of anything that roams. Spawned AC, Terrorantula and lings. Finally as was giving up after 2 hours realtime ghoul spawned somewhere and did not drop anchor. Spent another hour clearing all that moved again and no ghoul.

Ghoul showed up ingame at about 4am.

This is certainly possible, but I would count it as broken and in need of a fix. Particularly if Dartain has a long, fixed spawn time, having him be KOS to his neighbors would make the Tome of Miragul far too hard to acquire for either its stats or its position as the first and supposedly easiest of the 6 quest books.

By offering 20k each, I finally managed to acquire the Firebone Notebook and Velketor's Spellbook. The Tome of Miragul is now the only book I need to work on this quest.

I am in the same boat on my server. I have everything I need, except that blasted Tome. I have *one* lead on someone who might have it stashed away on an alt.


I did get the Anchor during the day.


On a side note, I petitioned, politely, to a GM a day ago about the idea of a possible faction issue. The polite reply was that he could not tell me any information on this quest, if I felt it was a bug, to /bugreport it, and to continue my search. No more information could be given.

That, coupled with the previous "Dartain is working as intended" tells me... either it drops someplace else, or Dartain is not supposed to pop until someone solves the quest.

You're the first one to confirm a normally garanteed KOS race/class/religion combo that worked.

As for me bringing it up - like I said, since most folks aren't faction aware, it's something that needs to be brought up - most darkies are still smarting from the burning we got on the Crown of Decite quest.

One thing to note....

Handing in the Journal again after finishing the quest, recompleted that portion. Now I still had the Lore piece that the assistant had given me originally so I did not get that again. I suspect that I would have gotten it again, had I not still owned it. So this is one way to get the pieces he hands out, by handing in the book you need the piece of again...

Not a great method.... but...

Totally random idea, but 'Durable stone silk' might mean cured in some way.

Maybe try combining the silk with heady kiolas or other curing agents?

Definately try tossing in some heady kiolas or the SoL equivilent.

Are those swatches/threads or straight silk?

Might want to try a planer sewing kit or the PoK loom.
