The Bloodletters sword is the Bloodfiend's rare drop, with the Hammer of Havoc his uncommon, and the Tome supposedly his common, so you just got unlucky. Right spot, right mob, wrong drop.

So while an option may technically exist, it's hardly a practical one for your average paladin.
Furthermore, if you can manage to turn in the Book of Turmoil despite being KOS, it follows logically that you could just use the same steps (the invis trick, I assume?) to turn in the books for the Grand Robe/Tunic quest.
For everyone that can't quite grasp how to do the quest -
1) Stock up on red wine and work up your faction with the guy in the library
2) Give him his wine and then the 70gp/7pp
3) He will give you a note for his sister - kill him and loot his head
4) Give his sister (bartender in Neriak commons) the note, she'll give you a note back, then give her his head - she'll give you the tome
5) Rinse and repeat till you've got as many tomes as you can carry or until you get sick of doing the quest - the tomes aren't lore (last time I checked atleast)
6) Turn in the tomes to the oracle and he'll give you a glowing torch and faction
Can someone who does this quest please make a note of what factions you get for the turn ins?
No more EQ for me till they fix the crash bug.

Can anyone who's killed the Ghoul in SRo/Oasis fill us in on how they found him? A PH is mentioned, well what is it? Been killing anything that moves in both zones for a while now and not seen him pop once on track or Sense Undead.Venerable Leysa::65 Storm Warden

Killed stone spider earlier today and dropped the silk.
Resisted fire for major partial with SoS, resisted magic constantly (AT/GFetter/DoL), but cold (DoE) landed every time.
BTW, didn't get an immunity msg for root, but resisted every time ... didn't try snare.
Seems to have a buttload of MR on him, and decent FR .. but low CR.
On a side note, stone silk NOT lore, same as phase spider silk .... seems so far that any component used for phylactory only once has a Lore tag, if it's No Drop .... Pristine Garnet, Moon Harvested Grapes, etc.
And 'durable stone silk' from NPC text can be viewed 2 ways .... either a) Stone Silk is a durable item ... or b) somehow Durable Stone Silk is made ....

Erikanudan's post got me thinking. So far we have two types of tradeskill drops -- lore and not lore. We also have 6 no drop ingredients that are provided as a result of the book turn ins. This leads me to believe that the Phylactery specific combines are somehow special. You are tested on your tradeskill on the non-lore combines or component pieces, but the 6 final Phylactery piece combines may be no-fail. I really hope that is the case.
To recap, we have the following open questions.
1. Does Dartain the Lost still drop the Tome of Miragul post 10/9 patch? Are all the Tomes people have found residual copies that were floating in inventory or the bazaar?
2. Are the final Phylactery combines (i.e. the combines that precede the final decorated box combine no-fail? If not, is there a way to recover the lost components that resulted from the book turn ins?
3. Is the Phylactery a range item? Is it an armband and head item (i.e. dictionary definition)?
4. Is the Phylactery a melee only item? Are there different versions for melees and hybrids?
5. Is the final Phylactery no-drop?Last edited by Quaras; 10-15-2003, 06:16 PM.Quaras Shadowscythe -- Bristlebane

Doing the Book of Turmoil quest now, and I just happen to have 100 skill in all languages, and I read the note that she gives you when you give her the note from her brother. It reads as follows:
I will not break my vow of silence, so I give you this note that you might read it. I will give you that which you seek, the Book of Turmoil, but first you must slay my brother, for he has revealed who I truly am. I will never follow Innoruuk, and am forever a Scribe of D'al. Bring me the head of my brother and return to me this note. In return, I shall give you the book of Turmoil, one of the books in the Tome of Ages. If you need any other of these books restored, I will do so for 1000 platinum.

Ghoul
I just killed him 3 times, within about 20 minutes, in SRO.
First time he showed up on tracking, he was at 51, 843 doing the swimming-in-the-air thing, which made me think that was his spawn point. He showed up about 5 minutes later at 370, 0. Then, about 5 minutes later, caught him walking south a bit N/NE of the 2nd spot.
Dropped anchor two out of three times.
I had been killing undead types of things - mummies, skeletons, ghouls for a bit, then noticed on track 'a skeleton' and killed it. Only mentioning it because it isn't listed on Illia's. /shrug who knows

What does she mean she will restore another book for 1000p?The Book of Scale (which is given to the Oracle for Miragul's phylactery) originally resulted from a turnin in Neriak (torn, burnt book + torn, frost covered book + 1000pp). They eventually added an NPC outside Qeynos who will also do the step, for the same price. I don't remember the name of the Neriak NPC, but the price is right and the text is logical, so its probably her
The change happened at the same time they nerfed the invis turnin bit - before you could get an invis, run into neriak, start loading up the bartender with red wine and hope he was high enough to do the quest normally by the time the invis ran out. Now starting the turnin breaks invis, so you have to have someone standing right there recasting it every time after the trade window is open (assuming you don't have invis/hide/sneak yourself (which no paladin race at the time had, although that's changed now with halflings), or feel like spending a fortune on 1 invis potion per turnin).Last edited by Dunthor Warsmith; 10-16-2003, 10:43 AM.

Shaman friend and I just spend 3.5 hours keeping desert area of SRo clear...not one spawn of Ghoul. Several times the "a skeleton" popped, sometimes in grass area sometimes in desert, didn't notice anything special about it.
This guy really isn't that easy to come by, imo people have been lucky getting him.Venerable Leysa::65 Storm Warden

Hehe, i spend 2 hours killing all undeads in Sro, and all that moved when i ran out of undeads. First time i seen Terrorantula, and the small terrorantulings, made 15 terrorantula silk.
But no Ghoul, gave up, and ran towards Nro to vendor check, and on track in Oasis, what do i see. And it dropped the anchor.
And got the item from the dino in OOT at first kill. Now i just need the last 4 books, got Velketors and Firebone. Oh, and a velious tunic
