Hopefully the recipe is not a jar of acid and spices.

If that is the recipe, we need another recipe for Tums or Tagamet.

I thought one of the ingredients was definitely vinegar?

So try vinegar + spices in a mixing bowl?

Vinegar + spices in a mixing bowl wouldn't be hot sauce, it would be half way to italian salad dressing

        Just need oil...

! Vegetable oil + vinegar + spices... does that make dressing?

I have been reading this thread and the ones in brewing with great interest. I have tried a few combines, all DNC and now listed by others.

A thought just occured to me. At one point Brodder said something about using ingredients from different tradeskills. That when this recipe was conceived that wasn't possible. This brings to my mind current items like Creamy Fennel Sauce. Which has Fennel, an alchemy component. The thought that struck me was maybe this hot sauce needs flour. I didn't see that listed as an ingredient in the DNC lists. (though there are a couple threads on this subject and I may have overlooked it)

I get the feeling that we will all say, "Doh!" when the recipe is found. It will be something simple that we have overlooked.

Anyway, I'll give the flour thing a try and post my results.

I know it's Everquest and it's "their world" and things don't necessarily have to make sense, but....flour in hot sauce? That seems a bit too wacky (in a "real world" sense). But I suppose at this point anything is possible. Good luck. I'll be absolutely floored, but I hope it works.

tried in a mixing bowl & also in a spit:

                  vinegar + spices = DNC
vinegar + jug of saces = DNC
vinegar + spices + jug of sauces = DNC

tried only in a spit, on the premise that jug of sauces + heat = “hot sauce”, because Brodder mentioned somewhere we were unnecessarily complicating things…

Jug of sauces (alone) = DNC
Jug of sauces x2 unstacked = DNC
Jug of sauces x3 unstacked = DNC
Jug of sauces x4 unstacked = DNC

                  /sigh

Flour is one of the most commonly used items to thicken sauces. Probably almost every sauce you can buy has flour in it. Just not in large quantities. Other thickeners are corn starch and arrowroot mostly, but flour is the cheapest by far and so used more.

I keep thinking for some reason that this combine should be made in a jar. We have all these different jars, they just aren't used much, that we know of. Maybe vegies + vinegar + spices/chagra spices/jug of sauces + flour in the 4 slot jar?

Wow. I had no idea. Most of the hot sauce I make I guess would be considered thin. Any thickness usually comes from the vegetables or a vegetable base. I'll have to check ingredients of some commercial hot sauces. It may be something I want to incorporate in my own stuff one of these days.

Thanks for the edumacation. Learn something new every day.

/Edit/ - Now that I think about it, I can't recall too terribly many hot sauces that I would consider "thick"...let alone thick enough to have been cut with something like flour. Is this really a common practice in hot sauce making or just "sauces" in general?

sauces in general. I don't know of any Hot sauces or BBQ sauces that use flour. BBQ usually uses something like molasses for thickeners.

                        *runs to pantry and fridge*

Frank's Red Hot Original - Aged Cayenne Red Peppers, Vinegar, Water, Salt and Garlic Powder

A1 Steak Sauce - Tomato Puree (water, tomato paste), distilled vinegar, corn syrup, salt, raisin paste (!!), spices and herbs, crushed orange puree (!!), dried garlic and onion, caramel color, potassium sorbate (to preserve freshness), xanthan gum

Bull's Eye Original BBQ Sauce - Tomato Puree (water, tomato paste), high fructose corn syrup, molasses, vinegar, salt, contains less than 2% of modified food starch, natural hickory smoke flavor, mustard flour, dried onions, spice, garlic

That completes the list of food items I currently own in this family of sauces. Has anyone tried water in their hot sauce yet? perhaps our unknown hot pepper type item, vinegar, water, salt and spices? If hot sauce is made in a mixing bowl, as would seem normal (but this is EQ), then there is a 4 slot restriction to the recipe.

It seems to me that the main clue here is where he says: "pre SOL big Trade patch". The key ingredient must be something added or changed in this patch.

Personally flour in hot sauce sounds yucky. But hey it was worth a try.

I tried in both a spit & mixing bowl. (haven't tried the jar theory)

                            Habanero + vinegar + flour = DNC
                            Habanero + Seaweed Vinegar + flour =DNC
Habanero + Flask of Water + flour = DNC
Habanero + Flask of water + flour + spices = DNC
                            Habanero + vinegar + flour + spices = DNC
Habanero + Seaweed Vinegar + flour + spices = DNC

                            Vinegar + flour + spices = DNC
Seaweed Vinegar + flour + spices = DNC

I also went to the two different chefs I know of in Velious searching for clues.
The Gnome in the brig at the pirates camp in Iceclad Ocean. He seems confused about being imprisoned but I couldn't get any recipes out of him.
The Otter in Cobalt Scar willing to barter for ingredients to his exotic dishes. I didn't have the components he wanted. But when I hailed any of the Othimir Warriors standing nearby they say maybe we can chat later over a bowl of spicy clam chowder. Entirely possible this is a dead end. However Brooga Shellcracker (name misspelled, sorry) sells only clam chowder not spicy clam chowder. Tabasco is commonly added to chowder.

/sigh I hope someone figures this out. Or gives us more clues.

All DNC in a mixing bowl, have yet to try spit/jar/brew barrel/loom/etc

Tried every single combination of the below ingredients in mixing bowl. All combines were using 4 ingredients, no repeats (2x/3x/4x of same ingredient).

                              Habanero Pepper
                              Vinegar

                              Jug of Sauces
                              Cup of Flour
                              Vegetables
                              Garnish

copies (not sure i did it correctly) from the General Question area.

Heh at one time even I sat at at FORGE and took out spices, sauces and my smithing hammer (for the real tough cuts of meat) and meats of various sources since I thought an oven was in no way a proper way to BBQ meats or cook even.

Bah only weenies carry a cooking spit, real dwarfs cook while they work! We get more iron in our diet that way too!
                                ARrr Arrr Arr!

(an aside you should have seen my (in jest) Dwarf Forgemaster's cook book it simply ruined recipes and cultural stuff and made fun of pansy arse cooking with Real Dwarf Forge cooking recipes. Tools? HAR! IF a axe hammer or tongs wouldn't work it wasn't worth our time!! Btw Lots of beer, ale, and stout was used in sauces marinades and internal libation/lubrication and book got progressively harder to read after page 6...with a final entry by a Cleric of Underfoot putting in a nice Beard growth formula and burn salve...
                                ...
Did anyone try the Forge? with a hammer? at work so i cannot test my own theory.
