  • This website, Miragul's Highway has a decent bit of lore. I'm not sure if its canon, but from what I remember when I was trying to figure out originally it looked like a mix of old parts of the EQ website mixed with some of the "beta lore". I think its reasonably accurate, at the very least much more so than First Light.

The best compilation of "beta lore" I'd found got taken down about a year ago, so I'm looking for a new decent reliable source of that that isn't intermixed with fanfiction, and have yet to find any good ones.

    • Just remember that Verant (as was, back then) officially said that even the stuff that was actually real beta lore is invalid in Live, and don't expect anything from it.

And, yes, I'm expecting Dartain to be Found, and the stone silk combine to be solved post-patch. But that's just the cynic in me.

      • I'm looking for suggestions for the easiest place to obtain a plate Velious BP. (for the oracle quest)

        Factors in making something easy:

        mob doesn't summon---> solo'able
mob can be killed with a single grp
doesn't require a metric ass-a-ton of clearing to reach
getting faction needed for the hand in isn't too bad
        mobs aren't highly contested
        etc etc

        • There are only 3 places you can get veliuos quest armors: Kael arena, Temple of Veeshan (halls of training), and Temple of Veeshan (north). The easiest of the 3 is kael arena.

Both the sets that drop in ToV require high ally to turn in, the kael arena set (for thrug quests) require just short of ally.. although most peopel go to ally just to be safe. Nothing much is highly contested anymore now that everyone hits 46 and runs to PoP to have themselves pl'd.

Alakazaam's has an entire page dedicated to this subject, listed over in the left hand column on the main page... look under quests, veliuos armors.

          • It's Halls of Testing

And armor for the Kael quests also drops in WToV as well as the central portion connecting NToV, WToV and HoT.

            • They didn't find Dartain according to patch. Good news is the BP quest giver hands out the right thing.

EDIT: This doesn't mean he isn't found, just the patch didn't specifically state as such.

Not true! I had my robe drop less than a week ago at the beginning of the tormax ramp, just going past the bank in Kael (which has great armor drops rates vs Arena). Also, plate armor drops in the Manor/Plate Cycle/Ice..something house, where the 9th ring Dwarf spawns. Finally, you can farm armor at the bank area when factioning, but it's a bit rarer. I had silk legs drop there for a guildie.

All Velious armor, especially bp's, require metric asston of clearing to get the drop. For robes, I have yet to see a total of half a dozen drop between Kael, wToV, and HoT in a year or two of guild's farming Kael/HoT and clearing wToV mobs for named, while finding a leather/plate/chain BP usually took a couple of hours of raid clearing in HoT.

                • I'd have to agree with Taedirk. If you can get a group to do Tormax's place with you, you can get two or three armor drops on average per clearning. Wheras in the arena drop rates seemed to be much lower. Course, we ended up with 4 or more of every piece of armor, 2 chain BPS, and 2 Plate BPs before we ever got a robe~

"Soloable" and "single group" are highly variable terms, depending on your class/gear/abilities and who that group is with.

Kael arena can be 1 grouped without being excessively uber - especially with cleric/ench to pacify the Protectors of Zek, you can single pull the entire area, including the named priests and back to Vindi and beyond (if Vindi's not up). Most of Kael has *some* chance to drop armor pieces, but the Arena&beyond and the plate cycle with the 9th ring dwarf are the two primary places people farm - if you're looking for a leather/cloth chest though, I don't think the 9th ring area works - I believe that only drops plate. When we've gone trying to equip casters, we've always done Arena for that reason.

What HoT classifies as really can vary. For some, its a a 4-6+ group raid. For others, its duoable (lvl 60 ench & lvl 60 cleric xped/farmed there for a while). From my experience, the drop rates were better in HoT than in Kael Arena, but that's just me.

Haven't spent much time in ToV hub, WToV, NToV to really have a good idea of difficulty/drop rates.

                    • Dartain still lost?

As with the last couple of patches, I logged out ahead of time far enough into the Hole to track everything in the zone. As of 8am, Dartain the Lost is not on track.

So either he either was not changed in this patch, or he does not spawn on server reset, or he is not trackable. It sure would be nice to know which, but all I can do for now is log out in the same spot and check again after work.

                      • I took my rogue down there and explored every inch of the zone, so even if he is untrackable, he's not up. Taadieri could track just about anything that I saw, save the dormant watcher...so I have to say that we're back to playing the waiting game.

                        • Someone should check if there is a guy who sells "newspapers" in PAineel or Erudin, if there is a new issue available and if it has any hints about Dartain...

I'm at work, but will check tonight.

                          • welp

Plate, chain and silk can drop from any giant over level 45 in Kael. The chance of a drop is roughly proportional to the giant's level. Yes, we've gotten chain and silk in the 'plate house'.

                            The basic rates we measured over ~300 pieces are 5 plate = 2 chain = 1 leather = 1 silk, and 10 boots/gloves/bracer = 3 legs/arms/helm = 1 robe/breastplate within any type.

Tormax's Throne room contains more level 60+ giants than any other part of Kael, so you will get more drops there.

Temple of Veeshan (halls of training), and Temple of Veeshan (north).

Killing anything in Temple of Veeshan can lead to armors.

Temple of Veeshan Hub -> Giant faction armor.
Temple of Veeshan West -> Giant faction armor.
Temple of Veeshan North -> Giant faction armor.
Temple of Veeshan East (Halls of Testing) -> Dragon faction armor.
Named Dragons, except Dozekar -> Giant faction armor.
