Starting to Lose Faith

dormant watcher

"a dormant watcher." is indifferent to me, unlike every other gargoyle. He's definitely got something going on, but I can't get close enough to hail him.

I've been down there a lot and there's no way to agro him from what i've seen. I even went so far as to /pet attack him. When I did that, my pet ran up, started taunting, but nothing else happened. My guess is that the watcher is in place to watch the Hatch while the Guardian of the Seal is dead. I could be wrong but with no way to open a trade window with him or to agro him I don't think he's involved in this quest. I think he was intentionally put out of range.

Also, I tried to open the hatch (this agros the Guardian of the Seal when he's up) while the dormant watcher was sitting there. Again, nothing happened.

Email I recieved from GM Aeoreth (Mith Marr):

Unfortunately we were not given any information about the revamp of the Hole, however after consulting with other GMs we are fairly confident that the Tome of Miragul does still drop and the quest can be completed since we have seen new items in regard to the tome and the rewards.

But of course he goes on to say that he cannot give out any information where it drops.

Not sure what this mean but I used a google search and got this bit of Lore about Miragul. I include this excerpt:

Miragul's Gift of Magic

The gift given to Miragul remains yet to be known. As I have been able to discern of Miragul he was but a mage from the city of Erudin. He managed to garner an unknown artifact from Trakanon to which he used it to master all forms of magic. Of which his most noteworthy school had been the dark arts of Necromancy in an attempt to cheat death. The elder mage turned Necromancer attempted a dark rite and traveled the dark roads of lichdom. His experiments met with both failure and success.

While his soul lays in torment within his Phylactery held by the Oracle of K'Arnon for unknown reasons; his ever slowly decaying body rages in mad torments within the caverns under Everfrost. Each day of ****ation, walking the abysmal depths of his lab...over and over again. It is unknown what the gift in and of itself may have been or what became of it.

When the wall of living stone was opened in old Paineel Dartain of the Dark Truth was set free once more. A prophet of a sort of the Plaguebringer and a once former disciple of the teachings of Miragul, the father of the heretics. It was said for some time that Dartain carried a strange tome of Miragul's within his possession whilst he lay within the murky depths of old Paineel. Does or did those tome have some sort of connection with the Trakanon's artifact given to Miragul?

Al'Kabor has long since been a fervent enemy of Dartain. Al'Kabor likewise sought to escape death just as Miragul did. Al'Kabor has been also said to be the singular most powerful wielder of the arts that lives in Norrath to this day, second only to Mayong Mistmoore. Where Miragul failed in his experiments to cheat death, Al'Kabor continues his research without end. Is the source of Al'Kabor’s power the artifact Trakanon gave to Miragul?

Duh. These existed before the revamp, anyone could have picked one up in bazaar and then produced "new items in regard tot he tome and the rewards".

stop looking for dartain

Hi, a gm on legends informed me that dartain is not in the hole and the tome of miragul is not droping now. He also said that they are aware of the problem but there is no eta for a fix.

Also i think we should have arrived at this on our own, this book would never be this hard to find. If it was droping in the hole off some mob we would have seen it by now. So save yourself alot of trouble and just wait for a patch to fix this.

I wonder why the gm on legends was able to tell me what the problem was but your gm gave you that bs about not knowing what was going on.

If they just came out and said

"We have removed Dartain the Lost until we are done designing/deciding what the final reward stats/effect will be"

If they just came out and told us that, am sure people wouldn't be upset, but it's the constant lying that upsets the bejebus out of me

It's also my belief that they also broke the Stone Silk combine for those few out there that managed to buy a Book of Miragul in bazaar

This way, they can't complete the quest either and find out that the reward is not yet in game

If you check the EQRPG message boards you'll see that the people there entered a contest where the winners were to be given the phylactery as a reward

They haven't received their reward, this was a month ago, why?

Like I said, I don't think SOE has finished designing the phylactery...


P.S. Sorry if this came out a little harsh, I just hate when am lied to.

As far as figuring out that Dartain was broken for ourselves, MANY of us have thought that this was the most likely possibilty since a few days after the quest went live. However, in the face repeated misinformation from the GMs, a couple of uncomfirmed and apparently innacurate reports of Dartain or the tome being seen, and a very strong desire to solve the quest, most of us have continued to look and to pursue increasingly unlikely leads despite our decreasing hope that any of these will pan out.

I don't know if Aryashem is correct about Dartain and the Stone Silk recipe being broken deliberately, but if it is true that Dartain and the Tome of Miragul were missing and that SOE has been aware of the problems and has not fixed them asap or even admitted they were broken, that is nothing less than a betrayal of their players. Not only have tradeskillers put in thousands of hours trying to solve this quest, but the quest was specifically promoted to buyers of the EQRPG products.

More lore about the Hole and Dartain the Lost if anyone is interested. This is an excerpt from a book sold in the library in knowledge by Researcher Eldaro (loc -70 860) titled "The Hole Uncovered: History Repeats Vol. II"

As they made haste toward the surface, they came across a figure that looked to be an Erudite. The Erudite was walking slowly and limping slightly. He was filthy, covered with dirt and soot. His skin was pallid, as one who had not stood under the glare of harsh sunlight for ages. He wore a robe that was a splotchy brownish color. It was difficult to tell if this was the robe's original color or if it was the result of the filth that covered it.

He raised an eyebrow as he spoke, "My name is Dartain of the Dark Truth."

The books seem to be a story of the reopening of the hole by three bumbling servants of Al'Kabor. It was an interesting read.
