  • Brodder, you keep saying that you are waiting for SOE to QA these recipes to see if they are implemented and working. Can't you test them yourself without giving the secrets? A simple "I made hot sauce today in game successfully" would do wonders to get people revved up to solve this. It's a little disheartening, trying to solve riddles that may not even have answers.

    • Wouldn't that require him to actually be playing the game? From the impressions I got from reading several posts he has made, he is not currently doing that.

      • Well it's been confirmed that Brodder's Revenge is in game and with recipes from numerous sources... Brodder has all but confirmed that it uses hot sauce(maybe too strong a word, but at least hinted at it ) So all is to assume that hot sauce was put in game at some point with some recipe, now we just gotta find it.... happy days!

        • Ok since brodder shot down my attempts at the second recipe :-p I'll try the first... let's analyze

A small fruit as fierce as a dragon's breath
Ogre's favorite juice to capture it's death
One list called for veggies, another for fruit
But a dwarf could capture best the firey loot

By mixing a bit of both, with the dragon's fruit
Foam of sea captured and caked.
WOuld in a cask be baked Cask
First thing I really noticed was:

Ogre's favorite juice to capture it's death
seems in contention... Well my 2 cents worth lays in the part of "to capture it's death" this would seem to imply Vinegar....
Why? Well simply because of the way vinegar is used to pickle something...Most people seem to agree its most likely vinegar(although I admit that we can't really rule out anything at this point and, if you wanted to use the 'juice' as literal you'd only really have a few choices, most likely of which was bog juice)

          Next:

One list called for veggies, another for fruit
From this I believe it can really only mean one of three things...
1.) there are two separate recipes one with fruit/one with veggies and you combine them somehow to get the final result

2.) the actual recipe uses both at the same time

          3.) From this by Brodder:
And even though tomatoes are considered fruit, they might also be considered a veggie by many...
We can't rule out this line as simply saying that two people writing down the recipe will view the ingrediant as a fruit while others would view it as a vegetable....

Next(note I'm disregarding a lot as flavor text, even tho it may not be):
Foam of sea captured and caked.
I think this part particularly confuses me due to grammar :-p From a grammatical standpoint, the poem itself makes little sense(and no one would blame a drunken dwarf for that). I'm sure at some point in your life you've been exposed to "If you want to eat fish fish fish fish fish fish for that reason too." and probably understand what I'm talking about(yes with grammar this is a valid statement).

Anyway.....based on the period at the end of caked .... I'd think this is probably part of the first set of combines(everything "mixed" together and then later everything is baked)

Two suggestions seem to be coming along: Mug of Sea Foam and Bag of Sea Salt... foam itself doesn't make much sense really, but the salt does(salt, afterall, is one of the major ingrediants in most condiments in this world and any!) It is possible, however, that either of them, or both, are used in the final combine(or neither, and it's some obscure reference to something else no one has thought of yet)

All that being said I'd like to gather up a list of possible components before we start off on another aimless set of combines

          This is my view:

Possibilities of Dragon's Fruit(going on the small bit[and possibly 'red'] and based a lot on what has already been said):

          Habanero Pepper
          Wild Crimson Berries
Sylvan Berries --> Note these are used to make sylvan dye which make Crimson colored ribbons really only reason I include them, there's really no indication they could be used in any kind of hot sauce recipe but *shrug* who knows
          Lavapear

          Possibilities on Ogre's Favorit Juice:
          Vinegar
Seaweed Vinegar --> I haven't seen this tried extensively yet? or did I just miss out on it
          Bog Juice

Possibilities of Foam of the Sea, captured and caked:
          Mug of Sea Foam
          Bag of Sea Salt
          Sea Temper? (Human Cultural temper)
Algae Spices/Plankton Frosting --> This would only fit if the "foam of the sea" were a more obscure reference to what may be found in sea foam...

          Possible Order of Combines:

          DF = "dragon's fruit", OFJ = ogre's favorite juice, FS = foam of the sea, F = fruit, V = veggies, R = result of previous combine:

Note: These don't rule out other ingredients as part of each combine step.

Note2: These aren't in particular order, just what came to me as typing.

          #1:
          a.) DF + OFJ
          b.) R + F [= R2]
          c.) DF + OFJ
          d.) R + V [= R3]
          e.) R2 + R3 + FS

          #2:
          a.) DF + OFJ + F [= R1]
          b.) DF + OFJ + V [= R2]
          c.) R1 + R2 + FS

          #3:
          a.) DF + OFJ + F + V
          b.) R + FS

          #4:
          a.) F + V
          b.) R + DF + OFJ
          c.) R + FS

          #5:
          a.) DF + OFJ
          b.) R + FS

          #6:
          a.) DF + OFJ + FS

          #7:
          a.) F + V + FS
          b.) R + DF + OFJ

          #8:
          a.) F + V + FS [= R1]
          b.) DF + OFJ
          c.) R + R1

          #9:
          a.) DF + OFJ + FS
          b.) R + F + V

          #10:
          a.) DF + OFJ + FS [= R1]
          b.) R1 + F [= R2]
          c.) R1 + V [= R3]
          d.) R2 + R3

          Are we confused yet?

P.S - By critiqueing Brodder's grammar, i did not open others to critique mine, kk? thanks :-p

              • has anyone gone to kunark and looted dragonfruit yet? only SOE would make something so obvious while we beat our heads against the wall

                • Dragon fruit isn't in game as far as I know..

                  • I've seen references to dwarfs preferring to cook things in a forge from Brodder. I also looked around and all of the hot sauces in RL (Tobasco, etc..) use GRILLED Chilis. So I am wondering if we need to cook the habanero in a forge first?

                    Comment

                    • Well at this point anything is possible, we just need to keep plugging away at it... once we get lucky(or run out of any other alternatives) we'll make a successful subcombine... once that happens I'm sure it'll springboard the rest of the recipe

Also, I will be actively trying, for ALL others actively trying this recipe, do NOT lose sight of the fact that IF it uses a PoP ingredient(Habanero peppers for instance) it more than likely requires Tanaan Oven/Forge/Whatever

                      • Hmm, also came to me that nuts are fruits, is it possible we are looking for a type of nut for this?

                        • After sifting through various item databases (lucy, magelo, allakhazam) for a little bit the other day I discovered Wild Radishes, which are foraged in Kith. Got my hopes up as they seemed like a decent lead, but alas they're not tradeskill flagged. Doesn't rule them out, I suppose, but makes them quite unlikely. After trying so many dead end combines for this thing I only had the energy to do a very simple Radish + Vinegar + Vegetables + Fruit in a mixing bowl before destroying them in frustration.

                          • I read on a tobasco bottle that it used Peppers and Distilled Vinegar - distilled vinager is just vinegar and water. Is there such a thing or has it been tried?

                            Comment

                            • Actually did think of a distilling process in there somewhere but not sure, this may be a little too complicated, most recipes are simple /shrug, can try a few things

                              • When I saw the Distilled Vinegar thing, the first thing that came to mind was Purified Water, which is 2 water flasks and a CE. I tried many many permutations of Vinegar and CE with no success. I also tried vinegar with Purified water in many variations, all with no success... In a brew barrel and mixing bowl.
