Same, the plat threads are the least of my failurs, I lose more BDs at the pottery wheel / brew barrel than I do in the forge, and my smithing is the least over trivial of them all.
The changes made to trivial failures have been a major blessing to me, I rarely fail any tuft subcombines now where I used to fail them a lot more than I liked. The 95% success rate on those before the change may have been accurate, but the 5% always seemed to be when combining the patches (loss of 9 tufts). I love this change.
I have successfully made 9 bags in a row now, with only one failure in the VF during this run. I have made well over 50bags now, including the bag failures, I can honestly say that I have failed less than 5x in the VF.
Of course, milage will vary for each - but the VF RNG seems very kind.
