Possible separation of quest?

I just noticed something in the assistant's text.

I am impressed by your efforts. The deeds are truly no less outstanding than my own when I stole into Miragul's Menagerie and stole a most unique tome and learned much of what I am passing along to you.

Could this be hinting at a possible separation of the quests? I would love to get a shot at this quest, but I'm a casual player and I'm not in an uber guild. Investigating this possibility, I looked back in the original thread and found this Ancient Tome of Necromatic Magic ; however it appears to be a secondary item, and not a text as I'd hoped.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed anyway.

Enchanted Velium Bits for Phylactery Lids

I tried all of the following tonight.

1 velium bits + 1 vial of cloudy mana in tannan forge = DNC
1 velium bits + 1 vial of viscous mana in tannan forge = DNC
1 velium bits + 1 vial of distilled mana in tannan forge = DNC
1 velium bits + 1 vial of purified mana in tannan forge = DNC

1 sm brick velium + 1 vial of cloudy mana in tannan forge = DNC
1 sm brick velium + 1 vial of viscous mana in tannan forge = DNC
1 sm brick velium + 1 vial of distilled mana in tannan forge = DNC
1 sm brick velium + 1 vial of purified mana in tannan forge = DNC

1 lg brick velium + 1 vial of cloudy mana in tannan forge = DNC
1 lg brick velium + 1 vial of viscous mana in tannan forge = DNC
1 lg brick velium + 1 vial of distilled mana in tannan forge = DNC
1 lg brick velium + 1 vial of purified mana in tannan forge = DNC

1 block velium + 1 vial of cloudy mana in tannan forge = DNC

My thoughts:
You must have to use one of the vials of Palatable mana to enchant the velium.

Has anyone thought that maybe the enchanted velium bits drop somewhere?

I've just done the Previous Garnet combine myself. I bought a Planar JC kit, and put the Precious Garnet, a Vial of Vampire Blood and a Jar of Lacquer in it. I only put in the Jar because I expected a DNC message ... but the combine worked and I got the Blood-lacquered Precious Garnet.

Edit: And if I had read the message a few spots higher, I would have known this ...

I tested the Garnet combines today:

Garnet + Blood in normal JC kit = DNC
Garnet + Blood in Planar JC kit = DNC

Garnet + Blood + Laquer in normal JC kit = success.

Couldnt get my hands on a collapsible, so couldnt test that.

Tried the following combines on the offhand chance that the recipe for the insert does need "Durable Stone Silk".

Stone Silk + Stone Silk + Embroidery Needle = DNC

Stone Silk + Vial of Purified Mana + Embroidery Needle = DNC
Stone Silk + Celestial Temper + Embroidery Needle = DNC
Stone Silk + Stone Silk + Vial of Purified Mana = DNC
Stone Silk + Stone Silk + Celestial Temper = DNC
Stone Silk + Stone Silk + Vial of Purified Mana + Embroidery Needle = DNC
Stone Silk + Stone Silk + Celestial Temper + Embroidery Needle = DNC
Stone Silk + Vial of Purified Mana + Celestial Temper + Embroidery Needle = DNC
Stone Silk + Stone Silk + Vial of Purified Mana + Celestial Temper = DNC
Stone Silk + Stone Silk + Vial of Purified Mana + Celestial Temper + Embroidery Needle = DNC

Ideas to still try include other mana vials, Heady Kiola, Heady Paella, Ethereal Curing Agent, Platinum Thread. I am sure others will think of more possibilities.

And of course, it is still possible that the word durable was just a description of the Stone Silk and that one or more of the above combinations with the pattern will be the right recipe.

On the pottery portion there could be a coupld variations:
1-spell used-bind and sacrifice both suggested so far
2- glaze- i dont think misty glaze seems appropriate for this but who knows, it could be a planar glaze since the book for this part is obtained from the planes, it could also be some sort of elven glaze i recall some of the text saying something about elven bones
-from my vantage point i would think these would be two possible variables, once again to complicate things more the palapable mana vials might also be used somehow in the creation

i truly wish i had these books so i could help with this quest .

Palatable mana

then apply the garnet and the five other pieces you've created to the decorated box and you'll have your prize

Seems he is talking about the pieces mentionned above. People suggesting the palatable mana being part of the stone silk combine or any other combine other than the one with the box are probably wrong since the palatable mana appears to be part of the "5 other pieces".

Ahhh yes, but you also could use it much like a temper, sometimes a temper is needed for a sub combine as well as the final product. Such as, coldain temper to make metal bits, and coldain temper to make velium bits and so on an so forth, or elemental combines, need a temper to make the studs/bonning and a temper for final product combo.

Try castng enchant velium while only having velium bits in inventory - it might be that easy?

No one has tried combining a bar of velium with the various mana vials.

Try an enchanted bar of velium in the forge.

Try just putting an enchanted bar of velium in a JC kit - maybe hitting combine is all you need to do? Will a chisel fit in a JC kit?

Maybe a normal velium bar in a JC kit with various mana vials?

Haven't tried it but game mechanics would indicate that it isn't possible. Imbue spells are simply spells that summon a specific item and require a specific or multiple specific reagents. There is no precident in the game for an imbue type spell to vary results based on components on hand and even if they did some how do it they would have had to change the spell in the spdata file which would have shown up in lucy.
