This statement, while technically correct, is a bit misleading given the context of this thread.

The Oracle of K'arnon has two philacteries associated with him: The new one from this quest (that we still don't know much about), and Miragul's Phylactery, a quest item for the paladin epic.

Here's a very short writeup of this step of the paladin epic, for the curious. This has nothing to do with our current quest.

To obtain the quest item, you had to obtain the torn, burnt book and the torn, frost-covered book from either Nagafen and Vox (respectively) or from a number of Kunark dragons. You would then take them to a scribe with a fee of 1000pp, who would combine them into the Book of Scale. Handing the Book of Scale to the Oracle gives you Miragul's Philactery, a no-drop item with no stats. You then find the Lich of Miragul in Everfrost, charm him, and hand him the Phylactery, which spawns the live Miragul. You quickly remove the "live" qualifier from his name, then collect his head and robe. These two items, plus others, are turned in for the Fiery Avenger, an interim step in the paladin epic.

The scribe I mentioned earlier was originally the bartended at the Blind Fish tavern, which is what the reference in the note is all about (and in fact, I think you can still combine the Book of Scale with her). Eventually, then-Verant realized that paladins don't belong in Neriak, especially not when doing a quest for their most holy blade. So they made a new NPC scribe outside Qeynos, though you would only discover that she is a scribe if you chatted with a particular person in Lake Rathetear -- he would give you the key words to make her talk.

I can also confirm that Miragul drops nothing but the two quest items; I just killed him a couple of days ago (after this quest went live).

Keep in mind that many of the other mobs you listed are week-long spawns. While the random mobs in the Hole may have fast respawn times, Dartain may be on a far longer respawn timer. It's possible someone beat you to him; and you'd just have to wait for him to respawn. If he is on a week-long timer (which, I repeat, is still unknown), then no amount of clearing will make him respawn sooner.

        • No one has said what faction the halfling with the grapes is on yet - are us evils screwed to waste 15+ hours slaughtering orcs and gobs in Misty Thicket, or is this guy indifferent?
When I did my grapes turn in, Dark Elf wizzie friend came with me. She happened to hail him at night so got no text but before in-game daylight she did get her grapes. She had no special factions.

I can also confirm that Miragul drops nothing but the two quest items; I just killed him a couple of days ago (after this quest went live).
Where did you find Miragul? Was he trackable?

Miragul does not normally exist in Everfrost. Instead, the Lich of Miragul will sometimes be up. He wanders in the ice caves north of the zone proper. He respawns a week after he is killed or turned into the live Miragul. The Lich doesn't say anything when attacked or hailed, even if he's charmed.

If you have tracking or Sense the Dead (the Lich is undead, naturally), head to the northwest fork of the ice river in Everfrost, where it meets the north zone wall. Track him from there; you can usually pick him or his pet up with Sense the Dead from that spot too. If you get an ice-boned skeleton with Sense the Dead, he might be up, but the chance of that is low. To get to the ice caves, you have to find the hole in the ice over the river and swim from there. The hole is marked with a red circle on the Everfrost map you download from http://maps.eq-toolbox.com.

The only way to make Miragul pop is to charm his Lich, then hand him his phylactery; and the only way to get that phylactery is to kill two dragons (at least), get the two torn books, combine into the Book of Scale, and trade the Book for Miragul's Phylactery with the Oracle. In other words, you're only likely to do this if you know of a paladin working on his epic.

Note that to the best of my knowledge, this has nothing whatsoever to do with our search for the Oracle's tradeskilled phylactery. Miragul's Phylactery (for the paladin epic) has no stats.

Second note: I just posted the second update for today to the full write-up. Updated through to here.

            • I just comfirmed the Oracle will agro a level 65, so the hide trick will not work. I am going to try and get an enchanter to charm him and see if I can hand in the Tome to get faction.

I know I am probably wasting my time doing all this, BUT there is a slim chance VI will not fix our faction, and I want to be ready when they do fix the quest.

Also, I turned in more Red Wine just for the heck of it, to see if I could max out Inner and Outer faction, and it still has not. I wonder if that faction is broken or just cannot be maxed out.

EDIT: Also, casting Harmony on him, to keep him from attacking while you hand him a book and try hide does not work either.

I'm 99% positive you cannot do this. Charm was specifically coded to not allow faction changes. You can still complete quests, etc., with a charmed mob, but you cannot get a faction change on a turn-in to a charmed mob.

Easy way to test: find a mob who is NOT KoS to you, but has an easy quest with faction change messages. (e.g., bone chip turn-in mobs at the various temples). Turn in the quest item; you should get faction messages. Then charm him, and turn in the quest items again. You won't get any faction messages this time.

                • jc combine - my info

Noticed on KyrosKrane's website (and thanks, btw; ) this
The combine with the jar was done in a Planar Jeweller's Kit; we don't know which container uas used when combining without the jar.
I did the combine in a jeweler's kit that was purchased in SH (purchased at vendor at zone in from bazaar, up steps, on the right). Received DNC for Precious Garnet + Vial of Vampire Blood, successful combine on Precious Garnet + Vial of Vampire Blood + Jar of Lacquer.

                  • KyrosKrane, your write-up says to turn in the robe if you're doing a MQ of the side quest. You fail to note that, well, this means the person getting the robe/tunic can only be the person with the token in that case.

                    • Anyone know if its possible to get a spotter down in the Hole to check on the mob there? Tried 6 times now with a rogue, got splatted by various mobs that saw though sneak/hide.

                      • Since the revamp, see-hide gargs block both paths to the deeper parts of the Hole, and are positioned so that you can't just sneak by. I'm pretty sure if you want to get a spotter rogue mule down there, its going to need a clearing force to get um through.

KyrosKrane: you're right, I should've been more clear. I'll add "Miragul's" to the phylactery I mentioned.

As far as factioning with the Oracle turnin, have your tried something in the later Pacify line? Harmony still aggros if you get very close to the mob, but Pacify (and I believe Pacification and Wake of Tranquility) literally lets you stand on top of the mob, dance a jig with them, and still not get aggro.

I've never been successful doing a turnin to an actively scowls mob, but its worth a try.

                        • Perhaps a rogue hiding and an enchanter pacifying could get the tracker down there? Can't remember how much room there is to get around those mobs...

And Pacification (and the earlier spells in the line) don't quite let you stand on top of the mob, though it is awfully close.

                          • I just happen to have a level 63 enchanter, I will try both the charm method and the pacify method.

It is really a shame they make it so hard to get faction. If they are going to introduce a new quest, they should reset the faction to Indiff or introduce a way to fix it.

                            Thanks for the advice.

                            • For what I could tell when I did the Grapes quest, the Halfling is on the same faction as those in Rivervale. I'll go back and check to see to which NPCs in Rivervale he matches. I have Kindly, Amiably and Warmly factions in Rivervale at the moment.

                              • As far as sneak & rogues - Id like to add that I still had my Yael rogue down by his lair - logged him in and he was crunched.

Ok, np lets try again, he level 7 and still bound in Paineel. I manage to get to the hall past old city - there is a see garg right in the path - so no gettin by him w/ that rogue.

I then logged a SoS rogue in on a friends account - heh he got maybe half as far as my lil levl 7 rogue - the steel golem things see SoS. Im cruising down and all of a sudden, that indiff golem attacks and I scroll back and notice the *you sense you precence has been blah blah blah*.

So, for those of you thinking SoS may work - it doesnt

This Dartain thing is really gonna suck.
