    *puts newbie cap on*

What's the advantage of vendor mining right after a patch? Isn't that when all of the merchants are empty?

Yes, merchants are empty so stuff that people sell to them are right up at the top. After a few weeks without a patch, the only things visible on a merchant are the worthless items that have already been picked over.

Someone sells a drop of pure rain to a merchant after a patch and you see it right at the top (well, at the bottom of their inventory).

Someone sells that same drop of pure rain to a full merchant and no one will ever see it.

        hmm ive found

probably about 3 highly polished gems

        4-5 dew clovers

probably half a dozen tae ew blood vials

        druid bear pet

stacks upon stacks upon stacks of spiders silk

finding stuff like spiders silk or any kind of pelt is kinda passe though. They are barely worth more than the parts that make em. Ive also found lots of planes stuff.

Found a liquified earth a few days ago. Found probably about 5 chips of granite over the past months. earth/water/fire mephit blood is not too rare.

Ive found lots of velium/acrylia/windstones etc

Hmm ok, I think I get it now. I've only done the version of vendor mining where you open up a slot on the vendor and sell them the item you want, and if it goes into the slot...well you know the rest. I've done this from time to time in Halas and I get some HQ bear pelts and Spiderling Silk from time-to-time but it's rare. I take it you guys just look in PoT vendors mostly for the planar stuff? Or around CT for the blood? Any luck with PoK merchants?

I'm gonna have to try this out.

Probably 95% of my vendor mule is from my friend and myselves vendor mining.. and he usually runs a bag empty, at best. What can be found vendor mining can far outstrip what you'll get actually hunting.

Couple days ago i even found a solstice robe.. 16 pp and change. Nice timing too, guilds going into it's 4th batch of earrings soon.

Went vendor mining this morning: found tons of velium, acrylia, high level words for research, and 4! drops of pure rain.

                Man the things people sell.

Man I love vendor mining stories.
But then i go to flea markets and garage sales in RL.

I got lots of BD before the marked tied.
Been getting lots of black sapphires lately.
                  1 crushed fire emerald.
                  1 jancith.
                  a few sunlights.
                  About 80 embroydery needles
and just got about about 30 opal encrusted steins.
plus all the silks and pelts in 2's and 3's that add up.
also when i was new i use to buy deathfist belts and sell them for about 5p each in bazaar. They would sit for awhile then someone would buy about 20 or 30 at once. Good loot for a newbie.

I am still kninda new so I learn a lot of what to look for in these threads.

Each line is from a single vendor. Some of them are impressive.

Almost all my vendor finds were from mining before the vendor inventory expanded, when you actually had to buy and sell items to expose new things in the inventory.

Especially early on, when very few people were doing it, you could pull a lot of stuff off of vendors. Over a couple of years, I made and sold somewhere in the vicinity of 1,000 stacks of leather padding (at 100 pp a stack in those days) virtually all of it from vendor mining; so that's around 20,000 quality pelts and 40,000 spiderling silks bought from vendors. I can remember getting more than 20 stacks of silks and more than 15 stacks of pelts from a single vendor.

The one I remember best was hitting the Everfrost vendors quite a while after a patch and getting 30 HQ bear pelts. (I still have an abandoned character with 5 or 6 stacks of HQ bear pelts in the bank).

Easy travel and especially the expanded inventory pretty much killed that kind of mining - I miss it.

Last night I found some Jord meat. I missed it last week, then I realized it sells for 50PP at the bazaar.

One day I found 2 dozen opan encrusted steins, 3PP each. Sold 2 pairs to guildies for 5PP a pair, gave 3 to alts, sold the rest for 25-30PP.

Hark! Who is that, prowling along the fields! It is Draggar De'VIr, hands clutching two hardened pitas! He cries gutterally: "In the name of Thor the Mighty, I hereby void your warranty, and send you back to God!!!"

                          All of the above.

Ok, well, only 1 highly polished gem and none of these:

7 Reruga Claws, 1 Soapstone, 1 Shimmering Fish Gills
                          1 Shadel Bandit Ring
                          1 Scroll: Bane of Nife
                          1 Scroll: Pox of Bertoxxulous

But everything else mentioned in this thread I think I've scavenged from NPC vendors at some point in time.

I don't usually "mine" the vendors, usually just look at their viewable stuff without digging down.

                            Mining

I found a liquefied earth a few months back, in the bazaar stables.

                            2 drops of pure rain
                            A few tae ew bloods
Got an obsidianwood sap and fire arachnid silk and fire mephit blood today.
I'm sick of buying BDs, I can make the money back processing them but after a patch there are just too many on the vendors and I don't have the room

It amuses me to do elemental tailoring when the highest zone I can enter is BoT

My best one was a Flawless Diamond on the druid vendor in Lavastorm. Bought it for about 115 plat I think and sold it in bazaar 15 mintes later for 1400. I was so happy my wife asked me why I was giggling like an idiot.
