  • I personally believe the mention of Frostreaver's Frozen Vodka to be flavor text and nothing more. It certainly wouldn't have anything to do with BR as while the ingredients may or may not be many and there almost definately are subcombines included, BR should contain "common" ingredients. If FFV exists I don't think it would qualify as such.

Then again, I seem to be wrong an alarmingly higher percentage of the time than I am right.

    • When I read the description of Brodder's Revenge I see it is supposed to have the regurgatonic effect. So I figure maybe the Regurgatonic is part of the recipe. That would fit some of the other clues, and would also be a typical SOE mistake to add that as an ingredient instead of an effect. Then I notice that the Regurgatonic quest uses a Flask of Nitrates, so I'm thinking Flask of Nitrates or Netherbian Nitrate might be ingredients.

      • Just a thought, prolly offbase but haven't seen either brought up in this thread thus far...

Possibly Flarefire seeds are somewhere in the "hot"ness??
It should have the tskill tag line in it since it is used in a quest.
(Kunark drop for a Velious quest)

Or possibly deadbone barley is used in a sub-combine or in the final combine?? If at all probably a sub instead of final if I had to guess.

Always thought it was a shame that the deadbone barley was used in only one recipe (legion lager).

Also even though the goblin remark pointed to Sol A, has anyone tried grinning goblin brew from Droga/Nurga?

The sodium bicarbonate idea someone brought up was rather interesting along with the regurgitonic reagent nitrates. Heh, maybe neth nitrates+soda+water flask(possibly + container) into a brew barrel or no container and put in a mixing bowl??

For some reason I think the herbano pepper is a red herring for this particular quest(s) although that's not to say that he isn't hinting to a completely unrelated drink/food/quest/thingy.

        • Great ideas there, Jormunrek.

Brodder's actually indicated that Hot Sauce is a baking recipe, and he started a thread in the baking forum to pursue the idea. You may wish to post there; you'll probably have better luck with the hot sauce than in here. =)

          • Hum ... Something that just caught my eye. We've been talking a bunch about "looking down" and ground spawns. We have Brodder telling us it's all simple ingredients, stuff that dwarves would easily be able to get their hands on.

I was reading through Brodder's diaries again when I came across this passage:
The Drakes of Steamfont tend to rest neat some fo the hotter steamvents in that land. There they shed their old skins, on this grows a lichen of properties unsurpassed in all of Norrath.
Collecting this lichen, some water and a clay pot I joked that this would combine to make a potable alcohol of unusual flavots. It did indeed, and to Catbik's distaste proved much more palatable than his favored gnomish spirits, and nearly as smooth as some of the aged Vodkas I've tasted. To keep the Gnomes happy I named this Gnomish Cleaning Fluid recipe as it resulted in two fluids. The pot itself decanted and filtered into a bottle provided a small potable beverage that I enjoyed, but the remains in the pot proved, once aged, that it'd make a great stripper and cleanser.
A LICHEN COVERED DRAKE SCALE found near steam vents, MEDIUM CLAY JAR, WATER FLASK, and a BOTTLE, result in SUPERIOR LICHEN SPIRITS, and a pot of cleaning paste.
I wonder if the drake scales, from either Steamfont or GFay/LFay might not be a possibility? After all, if it's used in one combine, why not more?

              • flarefire seeds are no drop henceforth dorfs can't use them. also, Brodder mentioned that while the fire drake scales fit into the roleplay aspect that wasn't it

                • So the question becomes is the bump by Brodder regarding using the lichen drake scale (presumably for the hot part) or for the superior spirits which is referenced as a smooth vodka?

                  • This post serves two purposes, Bump! :-p

                    Ok, anyway....

I'm not 100 % sure how many different avenues were tried with this but....

Brodder makes some very specific, yet fairly subtle references to Sol A (apart from the bartender comment, not sure how relevant that actually is)... as follows:

Dem tinkers sure make good ale carriers dey doo...
                    --> Tinkerer's Bag

If it's got a dent in the shape of a Goblin King imprinted on it...it's my MUG give it BACK!!
--> Only Goblin King I'm aware of is in Solusek's Eye(sol a), thus implying he was doing something there and had to fight his way out or fight the goblin king specifically

Now the problem with this observation is he also made reference to it way back in 2001:

Has anyone seen my dented mithril mug? the one with the gobber kings face imprinted upon it?
And since I don't know much about Brodder from way back when, it may have just been a common theme and I'm just over emphasizing it?

Well those are my observations so far

                    Qutie!

                    • Well, I visited all SH npc and hailed them with my usual hotbutton (Hail, do you know who is Lewena, do you know what is Lewena's secret?) and seems to be she is unknown to them.

I even tried to /bonk her and some of the customers around but they didnt drop anything. I knew they would not, but I wanted to be sure, (hey, it is my barbarian investigation). As the factions hits were not too much significant, I tried on anything soloable and pullable to zone with no luck.

The only noticable odd & mysteries would be :
                      - the small bottle on the stairs commented by one of the guards (not catchable of course).
                      - the Lolara pathing, she 1st go out, climb the stairs and stop to the gardener, say something to an invisible NPC about dropping out Halorak from her bed before coming back
                      - a pervert who is spying for some an invisible women through a window (through the window you can have a beautifull view to...a wall)

Well well, at least I had some fun listening of some npc conversations I had never listened before

note : tried some vegetables/bag of salt see/Mt death/jug of sauce/spice/root combine in oven with no luck either.

note2: in Sol A neither the gobbie merchant or the gnome are selling unlimited tradeskillable item beside water/bag/tinkbag/tboot

                      And the investigation continue.../sigh

                      • Ok, reading through this... there's a few things that stand out.

                        First, most recent:

Der are subcombines- not necessarily in same skill set.
                        INgredients are common.
It's going to be cross trade-skill, that's mentioned multiple times. It's not going to take rare drops from wierd places... in fact:

So you can right out cut out stuff that's not in me original recipes or that I'd find distasteful as a big clue.
That tells us we already know the ingredients, they have to be in the original recipies. No hair, no beards, no wolf fur, none of that.

souvenir mugs are mentioned all over the original posts, and then forgotten later. I'm betting that has something to do with it. Maybe give Lewena all four mugs and she gives you back a new one in exchange... in which you do hte combines. Or give her all four, and she starts talking about her travels or drinks or some such... they play into this somewhere.

One thing that's missed, or mis-interpreted:

Someone who can change to a goblin and use the faction spell (chanter) should check SOL bartender for the new bottles, if they are in...hehe
I don't think he's talking about the goblin merchant here. I used to buy bandages from that bugger for about 8 levels while I soloed bats in SolB... there's nothing useful there. BUT... how's your SolA faction? Is there anything that can actually RAISE SolA goblin faction to the point where the Goblin Bartender ( NOT the merchant ) will answer a hail and talk to you? Maybe you don't BUY the new container... maybe he GIVES it to you. The faction spells are nerfed and gone... but that doesn't mean we can't slaughter a few thousand SOMETHING and get high enough SolA goblin faction to try that.

Also, he said it's a complex recipie, probably going to take more than 4 components, up to 10 ( ala Minotaur Hero Brew ). And cross trade-skill...

This I think is a good thought:

He mentioned it himself... started the thread himself. It's a poke, and a hint. Don't miss it!

                        From the initial scrawled note:

                        Spiced ale never seen?
                        Brodder's Revenge?
                        Test of Hate-elven delight?
                        Quested too hard they say...
                        Many groaned in dismay.
I think the first three are DIFFERENT drinks. "Spiced ale never seen" is Lewela's Ale, "Brodder's Revenge" is what it is, and "Hate-elven delight" is something different ( possibly related to the quest somehow as a subcombine ). The last SCREAMS Dark Elf ... maybe Neriak, but then again maybe a specific DE in some other zone.

Perhaps a mug on a shelf a clue?
Near the lass it may be.
There's something in those mugs... something to do with the anagrams maybe. I'm not sure how it plays in, I've never been there to look at them. But I'm sure the spaces between the mugs mark words, and MAYBE the words play into the anagrams. Certainly they play into the mystery. Also, by the "look down" clue and the mug on the floor below... maybe that's a fallen mug that needs to be added to the ones on the shelves somehow to make the words come out right?

                        Catnip tea and ale?
Ah'd shiver hard let me tell you.
Something there? Or something just to lead you awry? Anyone done an anagram on "Catnip tea" ? /ponder ...

Other things he's mentioned that stand out:

Maybe it's time to start experimenting with dem peppers neh?
Dey might be needed to make something that could be used in the B.R.
and it may or may not be part of lewena's quest...or favorite new ale.
**** peppers... how and where and for what?

                        and...

Trick is to get lewena talking. She knows I'm sure.
After that it's not gonna be too tough.
                        Therein lies the key, m'thinks.

I've been following this on and off for a long time, think I'll start seriously looking into it

I would rather go camp a rare named for an item then slaughtering 1k gobbie for 1 faction level (and as you often are ready to attack...)

You could raise your faction with gobbie in Deeper Sol, but I don't know if the dungeon is still up considering originally it was to be removed fast. (you still have faction it for it though)

Edit: tried everything that a chanter 46 could do (illusion, benevolence) but faction is still dubious. The only way to get him to sell you something is the sneak/hide but even in sneak only mode he won't talk to you.

The Bartender doesn't sell stuff at all... and he's on a different faction then the merchant ( who's going to be at least partially on "Vendor Neutral" )

But it will be a LONG painful process, I agree. Having done the woodelf crown, I can attest to that.
