Not so strange. Don't they coat Margarita glasses with salt? We still don't know if the end result has to be brewed in a bottle or cask -- though I admit, it would make more sense than a glass. However, it could be "brewed" (think "mixed") in a shotglass, in which case the salt would be appropriate.

Though I've never heard of an ale served in a shot glass before ... it would have to be pretty darn potent.

I do think, though, that we're reading too much into the salty pretzels angle, especially given how direct some of his other clues are.

Ack! bluetoe mushroom and dulfis mushroom. Those are the two...dulfis is marked as combinable.
Just a note: if BOTH are usable in the vah shir sonic wolfbane quests and only ONE is tagged as tradeskill item, means we can't necessarily rule these out yet...if that was the only use (barring errors by Sony) for both kinds of mushrooms, would it not make sense for either (A) BOTH to be tagged as tradeskill items (don't agree with this, but maybe) or (B) NEITHER to be tagged as tradeskill items since they are quest items, not tradeskill.

Therefore, I think the dulfis mushroom still has possibilities.
The dulfis mushrooms are used in a brewing combine by shaman which explains the tradeskill tag.

Bluetoe mushrooms are used by warriors and are combined in a quest container (shopping list quest), not smithed as would be expected from their part in the sonic wolfbane quest. They shouldn't have a tradeskill tag.

I still agree that they have possibilities since several items have more than one use but I feel they are tagged properly for the uses they already have. They are not hard to come by since they spawn near the zone line and the MoBs there are non-aggro.

By a "brewing mixture", I mean the ingredients used during the fermentation (or even distillation) process. That of course doesn't preclude salt being used as you mentioned, like with a margarita (and I am sure some other drinks).

Samichlaus (~ 13% ABV, depending upon year and age when consumed) is traditionally served in miniature steins, which are roughly the same size as a (double) shotglass. Sam Adams Triple Bock (which isn't really a bock, as it's top fermented, thus an ale) (~17% ABV etc. :shock also is sometimes served in such glasses, although is best (IMHO) served in a brandy snifter.

Nevertheless, I fear going upon our real world knowledge of alcoholic beverages probably isn't worth much, as ales (and lagers for that matter) do not use distilled components (e.g. vodka). That's the first thing I noticed when I read that part of his post. I don't know what "gnomish spirits" are exactly, but if indeed "Gypsy porter" (can anyone confirm this? is it indeed "porter" and not "port"?) is made by combining 4 gypsy wines, then we shouldn't expect SOE's brewing recipes to be... well... that "realistic".

Despite the little guy's multiple behests, I tromped all over Tiplo's gardens yesterday, and saw nothing of import. I did, however, notice the two dwarven brothers who are usually near Lewena standing by the PC zoneline. Hailing them produced no further clues. I don't have any idea what all that was about. I even looked around in the short part of town... nothing.

        ~sigh~

Anyone else have any better luck?

They were almost certainly trained there by someone who aggroed them (auto-attack by mistake, usually) then made a beeline for the nearest zone.

I see it a lot with the two vendors in tents near the Nexus zone line. Someone accidentally attacks them, then flees to the Nexus. The merchant follows and occasionally gets stuck (and becomes unusable) at the Nexus pool walkway until the zone resets or a guide wiggles his or her fingers at the merchant.

Edit: And yup, it really is called a Gypsy Porter.

          • Speaking of ground spawns and forages, could it be something from Echo Caverns? I know there's a Gnomish King or some such in there; frankly I never spent too much time in the zone. It could conceivably be called a hall; in olden times, a king or chief's domicile was often referred to as a "hall".

Maybe there's something on one of the vendors in EC that would prove useful? Most of the EC vendors won't talk to a paladin, and I never bothered to figure out what faction they're on to raise it.

Isn't Fordel Hold also referred to as a Hall on occasion? Or am I just imagining that?

All that aside, I keep feeling we're missing something patenly obvious. ...

            Random screwy idea ...

Maybe we're not supposed to brew the drink ourselves. Maybe we give the ingredients to Grimthor, Woolf, or Lewena herself. Grimthor does say he's interested in odd ingredients for his drinks or some such...

            • One thing I have noticed is that many many many (sorry, just finished watching police academy) Shadow Haven based quests require that you travel to different zones on Luclin to complete. Now there are a couple of large bars in one of the most underutilized cities in the game.... Sanctus Seru. Getting there requires travel thru Netherbain Lair, and then either Marus Seru or Dawnshroud.

              • And the bars in Katta too, think I've seen a bottle on the floor somewhere around there, and there are mugs placed around too.

What drink was it that the storyteller handed out when they were going around talking about Inny and PoH?? It was something that sounded evil, but I can't remember the name.

haha... took one for the team, eh?

i tried talking to all kinds of people in sseru. btw, for those who haven't taken the time to explore the zone... it's just a wee bit big.

the file cabinet scared the you know what out of me, as it was KoS to me. luckily i jumped out before it (and presumably everyone else) agroed. i also kept my eye out for ground spawns. i even checked the areas under the passageway to the casters' portion of SH (the drop that goes to PC).

anyhow... yeah. sorry, not much help there i guess.

                      • The agressiveness of file cabinets...

Sorry to be a wet blanket, but the file cabinet that was KOS to you is but one step in a multi-part quest that begins deceptively simply by baking up some bixie crunchies, talking to people in Sanctus Seru and Netherbian Lair, and buying a 55pp bit of alcohol. The initial quest - Insignia Earring of Veracity - yields a minor reward, but the quest gets progressively more and more difficult.

I eventually hope to achieve the fourth earring of the line: Signet Earring of Veracity, but that's going to be a while for me, unfortunately.

And to the best of my knowledge, the *only* tradeskill used in this line of quests is baking, for the initial bixie crunchies.

Okay maybe I'm going out on a limb here, but he said to look down. And being a Barbarian I looked down and saw names... clues in names... Anagrams...

The two dwarves Lareso Runsalark and Eslof Runsalark... ignoring surnames... their two names could say Fools See All

The human in the corner.... Milesent... Elm Stein.... or Ten Limes.... but no limes in game...

The Barmaid Adelina (ignoring title) is Dain Ale (some chap from marr figured that one out, it's what got me started)....

and the halfling in the corner... Hamon. I've seen him forever and everytime I see his name I think of Weird Al's Parody of Michael Jackson's Bad AKA Fat... "Hamon.. Hamon Wholewheat, alright".... so maybe this references a wheat based ingredient? (Sold by shortie down by pottery wheel in SH... doppel bock wheat something?) Or as the guy from marr (sorry again bad with names... Tenrin?) suggested, Hamon Rye? Rotgrub Rye perhaps?

and of course Lewena is New Ale....

So here is my theory.... as off the wall as it is....

New Ale = Dain Ale + Fools Stein + Rye/Wheat ingredient....

Although I have no clue what Dain's Ale is.. maybe the antifreeze to which the dorf refers?

Just a thought. I might be way off on this one.
