I've been thinking more and more about Brodder's latest clue.

He repeats a couple of times that our clue is just down the hall. Well, there's another NPC named Sibyl just down the hall from Lawena, in the back left room in the inn. Allakhazam's has nothing on him (besides his basic info), and I wasn't able to get him to respond to anything about Lawena, ale, or new ale. Though I didn't try "mug" ... Anagramming his name proved pointless, as did joining his and Lewena's.

Brodder also mentioned a sort of "hot drink" a couple of times: "Gnomish antifreeze" and "Sumtin to warm the soul". His "Cold n Blue" comment makes me suspect a Coldain heater (which makes the Coldain velium temper, a cold, blue vial), while the Gnomish antifreeze could mean Gnomish Firewater. Alternately, the repeated references to spices could indicate a hot (as in spicy) drink.

Despite the fit of the Coldain heater, I'm a bit against using it in this puzzle. Sony normally don't like to mix expansions, and the Coldain heater is a Velious-specific item. Anyone know whether the Firewater is an old-world item?

His couplet of "Perhaps a mug on a shelf a clue? / Near the lass it may be" made me think of Grimthor and Woolf. Woolf will respond to a number of key words describing the ales he carries, but nothing about a new ale or Lawena. Grimthor proved fruitless too. Maybe some better than me at interrogating NPC's could ferret something out of them.

I also realized that I've been calling the girl Lawena when checking with the NPC's, but to anagram it to "new ale", her name would have to be Lewena. I'll confirm the in-game spelling later on and retry the NPC's with that. I tend to use both spellings in my posts.

Oh, and someone also mentioned that there's a Halas Heater that could apply to the "hot" theme. Something else to experiment with.

Of course~

Vodka + spices + *Berries* + shotglass = Halfling Stouter <-- fits
Vodka + Spices + *fire beetle eye* + shotglass = bleeding brain

Vodka + spices+ egg + shotglass = Will Test After Leveling Shaman

Frothy Frostbite, result of above (if any), spiced hollowpalm tea + (halas heater) + cask = Something maybe?

Gnomish Antifreeze

The "Gnomish Antifreeze" line does not refer to Firewater or Coldain Heaters. It refers to the recently discovered Frothy Frostbite. If you go back further in the thread you will find the following reposted recipie that Brodder originally suggested to the devs:

"The FrostBite
Vodka + Gnomish Spirits + Herb (pepermint/hot pepper) + ice of Velious + Bottle (a frosty concotion with a bite, also doubled as antifreeze for the gnome explorers of Velious) Would look like a frosty bottle with a bluish tinted liquid in it-think cabilis pale ale, but not pink, but light bluish in same bottle)"

The in game recipie for the Frothy Frostbite has been confirmed as Vodka + Gnomish Spirits + Spices + Ice of Velious + Bottle.

I dont believe this is part of the combine for the new ale. It is a in a section of the puzzle where Brodder is simply listing a series of rumored drinks, the recipies of which have not yet been discovered. Of course I could, I say I could, be wrong.

A listing of bars in ShadowHaven

Last night I made a tour of SH, looking for rooms that have a mug on a shelf. So far, I've found four bars, and one in particular that has lots of mugs and a focus on ale. The NPC's in that bar didn't respond with any hail text that looked helpful, or like the beginning of a quest, or an offer for a recipe.

If you're facing the entrance to the beastlord / shaman / druid guild portal room, then to your right there are small buildings and doors in the wall behind them. This bar is through one of those doors, and has two rooms on the first floor. You'll know it when you see it.

I don't think there are any bars in the wizard / magician area, but I didn't look. I also haven't made my way over to the short-folks area, either.

Hum ... could the "mug on a shelf" reference refer to the name of a drinking establishment? I know the bars in Old-World zones and Velious have distinct names, but I don't recall whether SH bars have names.

What if the vodka that is mentioned and the Frostbyte that is hinted are not combined together, but what if the *RECIPES* are combined? He says my bags are full... If you combine the RECIPES you get 10 items. Enough to fill a brew barrel... Gonna try this tonight.

Ok, my idea was bogus. I tird to combine the following in a barrel... DNC

Vodka recipe:
2 short beer
vegetables
water
bottle[/list:u]
Frothy Frostbite:
(skipped vodka cause we had it above)
gnomish spirits
spice
ice of velious
(skipped bottle cause it was above)[/list:u]
And from the clues:
• snake egg
spice[/list:u]

Didn't work... Oh well. Was worth a shot...

I wonder ... could it be as simple as a Frothy Frostbite with either spices and eggs, eggnog, eggnog XXX, or vodka in a container (cask, bottle, shotglass)?

• Congrats on confirming the Frothy Frostbite...gnomes everywhere that it's cold are rejoicing.

What I write here is from my notes, my memory, and conversations I had with Dan Enright/Yakatizma.

I'll leave it to your enterprising selves to discover what else is missing.
But, working or not, I cannot come right out and say what's what and give out direct answers on many of these things.(by Request of the folks at SOE).
What worked once , may get broken on a whim or an accident.
But I hope in the posts I have sent in so far have provided enough clues.
And yes I do RP heavily...that may cause some confusion, but hey! Isn't this fun?

If Book II of the Brodder's Diaries were to surface, and the following volumes (SOE has them somewhere), more recipes would come to light that haven't been found yet.

THOUGH I heavily doubt they went in due to time constraints or got lost.

But some of SoL's quests are pretty much echos of all the ones I wrote up on request after SoV/RoK. And many I hardly recognize. Most were supposed to be GM events...but became hard coded in a form or another.

The Brewer relaxes, no other no matter how skilled bears that title.
His hands itch for the familiar heft and weight of the old mithril battle mug, taken from him so long ago when dwarven ale was once again returned to Kaladim, and Tumpy fined for his actions.
The diaries continue to sell well, and still the gnomes refuse to reprint them in any language but the gnomish they used to improve on his original works.
Dozens and dozens of brewers curse and scream, shout for joy, and drink to oblivion in the worlds about him.
All is right, and yet something is missing.
His hands twitch again, and he absently rubs his nose then snaps his fingers, and reaches for a bowl of pretzels....
The serving wench brings him a tankard flowing over with foam, which soon coats the dwarfs whiskers to either side of his mouth.
With a content sigh, he settles back and watches all the young scions of the art of brewing get to work on one more mystery...

In his mind he begins to juggle words and prose, though no bard he is, to offer the others a clue to their dilema...but how so can it be, when it is so obsvious, well to a dwarf anyways...some folks never look down except at the others.

Brodder looks around his overstuffed chair and places his boots on the small table before him, dozens of empty bottles about him, would easily determine what it is he drank in the last couple of hours...was it a couple?
Maybe a day... the piles of debris are quite large indeed.

Munching a pretzel between swigs of the imported double brew double stout, he recounts all he's tasted, and enjoyed, and begins to wonder, what makes a person enjoy an ale to call it their favorite?

Time passes, and soon the dwarf is snoring again, dreaming of new brews, of places to go and to test what's brewed there...his dreams are but shadows of what's passed and what's to come...

I remember an IRC chat with a dev pre- moon launch, we were talking about "filling" aka content and stuff that might secretly make it into the next expansion pack...
HE called me the Secret agent of brewing, the maker of the infamous Faydwer shaker...

I then replied- "secret agent ehh? So if I secretly invent a new version of that faydwer shaker it'd be the Moon Shaker version?"

(for the slow... secret agent 007, Moonraker...take it from there)

Just a lil humor at 7 am after another all nighter... of what? HAR a dwarf ne'er tells, cept over a few kegs...

Also, does anyone have a copy of Brodder's original posts? His diaries from when he posted them on message boards and such? The few links I've found have been incomplete at best. As he points out, there may be several other drinks he's invented that are live but undiscovered in the game, and having some sort of guide would help.

Edited to fix the Jumjum info; I copied and older draft that left out that comment.

• I know, Chase, but having never seen the in-game diaries, I don't know how many recipes per diary to expect. The posts on page three have 10 or 12 recipes, many of which are known to exist already. Brodder referred to multiple unpublished diaries, the contents of which may or may not be live. Hence my comment if anyone has the complete text of the diarys as he posted them.

Or are the posts on page three all that was ever publicly released?
