  • Just finished my final earring yesterday. I'd have to agree with the majority of folks who say that the effects are disappointing. I would much rather have the regen effect from the previous 2 levels of the quest. FT is maxed without this earring... redundant focus effects stink too.

    • Updated text for Baking step.

Text fixed as of this morning on test.

[Mon Apr 21 11:15:07 2003] You say, 'master chef'
[Mon Apr 21 11:15:07 2003] Aid Grimel says 'When we adventure in the Planes there is only one meal that keeps us in top fighting shape. It is called a Bristlebane's Party Platter. Unfortunately the platter is awkward and not easy to adventure with so you need to place them in this satchel. I know not how to make the Platter, a rather nice female Halfling cleric used to deliver them to us. Quite an amazing lass to be braving so many of the Planes by herself. We chatted a bit last time she was here about her next trip she was planning on taking. She was going to spend time in Plane of Justice, twice as long as the other Planes. From there she was going to the river in Nightmare. After departing the land of Terris Thule she was going to visit the home of the God who was once tormented by Terris. After picking up a few baskets from a friend, she was off to the home of the Triumvirate. Alas! Word made it back to me she was crushed by a Regrua while hunting for the dreaded beast's claws! Combine three of the platters and the signet inside the satchel.'

        • Earring

I apologize if this has already been said as I did not read this whole thread. I think that SOE should have taken a lesson from the popularity of the Solstice earring quest and all the positive "press" they got from that and made this quest not require any flags and have all components droppable. The sheer amount of work that goes into getting the AAs for all the new tannan crafting mastery, then gm-ing or close all those skills, obtaining the parts including failures, and the items like the air bow and fire robe that you turn in is enough of a "cost" for this item. With the required effort this would not even remotely be unbalancing. People would be very happy with SOE and continue to play longer working on a quest of this size. This was a missed opurtunity for a lot of positive feedback from their customer base. Also I agree the effect should be changed to a combination effect so that hybrids are better rewarded for it.

          • At the rate the complaints are coming in, the thread is degenerating into *****ing and moaning. It would be really nice if complaints and other whines about the earrings and the quests go to the Primal Scream room at this point.

Queletan has kindly started a thread on it. Please take your complaints there. As far as I know, I cannot edit a post in a LOCKED THREAD and I would be extremely peeved if all the complaints in here made that happen to this one--especially if SoE makes changes to the quest.

            • I was one of the initial people working our asses off trying to solve the steps. I thought the baking earring would probably be the final one, and expected it to be 125/125 with AoBattle and maybe a lower end focus.

The Marked Runed was a little behind that, but fine considering they added an extra, unexpected step. Ideally I'd prefer parry or riposte to dodge, but that's just nit picking. The melee earring is **** nice - not the best there is, but still **** good. I'm a warrior without Aten BP and I'm just about capped Veng, but I can still see how the effect fits into the scheme of things. The caster earring balances well with the melee earring. You drop 15 hps and pick up 150 mana. The effect isn't 'must have' but opens up different upgrade options.

What you have to remember, is that if this earring was 200hp/mana with an icon clickbuff for 20atk 10mana/tick 10hp/tick 10ds or whatever, then EVERYONE would want one. That means everyone with 500k and time on their hands would become 220+ in all tradeskills. That would simply decimate the tradeskill community as we know it. Ingedients would skyrocket. Every tradeskill made item on a skillup path would be selling for 2pp over vendor buyback price. Is that honestly what you'd like to see happen?

              • Tradeskill Mod A bad idea...

I just wanted to say that for those of you who aren't satisfied with this item because it does not have something that really is good for tradeskills, if varent had added it, even MORE people would complain...

Because you need to be elemental planes flagged to get this item.

Some of the most hardcore skillers that I know aren't even level 60 yet, and they certainly don't have access to ele planes. Had this had a traders mod, many people who go into the "my success at tradeskills is not connected to my prowess in battle" tradeskills would feel slighted. I'm glad that this doesn't give an uber tradeskill mod.

It means that our ultimate tradeskill trophies are still attainable at any level (they require plat, not levels or fighting).

This is an uber item, yes, and it requires very high tradeskills. But I'm glad that it hasn't become some uber trophy.

It also strikes me as interesting that many of those complaining about the stats will probably never get it. Why complain when your tradeskills aren't anywhere near all 220+ and you aren't even level 65? Because you aren't gonna get it if those two above things are true.

If you have a mana bar, you will recieve this:

                  Signet of the Arcane
MAGIC ITEM LORE ITEM NO DROP
                  Slot: EAR

                  SV POISON: +15
                  Effect: Flowing Thought III (Worn)
                  Focus Effect: Preservation of Xegony

                  Class: ALL
                  Race: ALL
That is very sadly not 100% true. I finished the earring Quest last night, really hoping to get this Signet of the Arcane, and i "rewarded" with the Signet of Might, which was not only a downgrade of 115mana after the Marked Runed Signet, but also has the worse effect, from my point of view.

Oh, i am a BARD, yes the one class they always screw up!

You say this like anyone could have the earring tomorrow if they had the time and money. The requirements for this quest aren't remotely trivial. Not everyone has the dedication and masochistic tendencies necessary to be a 220+ tradeskiller in all seven skills. They are a very small subset of the player population (only ~20ish people in the 1750 club currently). The people with elemental access are most likely in a raiding guild, so they don't have a lot of time to farm and do subcombines just for the sake of getting one end-game item. Let's not forget that an equivalent item will most likely drop inside PoTime as well. So I think this time & money argument is a moot point.

Had the effect been a tradeskill mod, it would be completely and utterly worthless. Anyone with the requirements necessary to complete this quest is already close enough to the hard cap w/ existing geerlok or trophy skill mods.

                        • I am guessing whoever coded what class gets what earring didn't realize that FT affects bards and that as a bard FT is hard to come by. They also probably didn't realize that bards in PoP use mana all the time and that an earring with no mana also isn't very appealing.

They need to put in a way for people to choose the final earring they get.

                          • I've looked through this thread, and if I missed it please forgive me. If there are any links elsewhere (yes I used search function and only found a thread for one), again please forgive me. I only seek information

Is there a guide that shows how to get the different flags specifically for this quest? The names alone confuse me because with some encounters you get more than one kind of flag.

And yes, if I am asking how to get the flags I belong to a guild that does not have the capability. Yet.

                            Thanks

To put it simply if you have to ask how to get the flags at this point then you can't get them. It's not an easy matter and requires killing a large amount of difficult and probably contested mobs. Either way if your looking for more info check a site like alla's or such since this isn't really tradeskill related.

Roughly speaking to get all the needed flags to compleate the earring you need to kill every god in the first 3 tiers of the planes in addition to some other hoops to jump threw along the way. So you need to kill grummus, terris thule, bert, saryrn, behemoth, tallon, vallon and rallos zek, agnarr, Arry dar, Mithaniel marr and i'm probably missing a few things in there too.
