Don't trivialise the effort needed to complete this quest. Yes, it's open to anyone with access to the elemental planes, but we aren't going to be seeing a flood of these earrings on people's profiles. Several people in my guild have been getting their baking up to do the Party Platters, and they've been complaining loudly about it. Yet baking is one of the easiest skills to get to 220.
The complaints people have been voicing are valid. The earring is nice, but it just doesn't have that extra something that would qualify it as a suitable reward at this stage of the game.

I'm not trivialising the effort needed. I am a couple of smithing skillups short of 1750, so I know only too well what is needed. Smithing at max skill using mods and everything else 200 cappped pre-PoP. I already have the Signet of Might and Marked Runed Earring in my two ear slots, so know the quest well.
You need a lot of time on your hands. You need a LOT of dedication.
Hmmm... that sounds like exactly the sort of people who would be the ones in uberguilds in the elemental planes doesn't it? I know the effort because I'm a tradeskiller. I know the type of people I'm talking about because I'm an officer in an elemental guild. I know for a fact people are already PLing tradeskills in my guild as a direct result of this 'underpowered' earring. I have to be honest, I'm fairly happy with the stats, and I'm jumping for joy at being able to actually wear something I made myself (sorta). It also means the guild needs one less Clawed Hoop from PoEb. The effects could use a re-evaluation, but that's just icing on the cake. 25ac 15svAll and 145hp (or 135/150) is awesome on an earring.
Whether or not people actually stick at it long enough to actually get the earrings is irrelevent to a degree. They'll see the quest, and the list of tradeskills needed, and complete the 'easiest' ones first. Everyone and thier dog is currently maxing baking to use the BPPs as stat food. They'll probably whip up a couple of stacks of Hero sandwiches next time they're exping in HoH rather than buying them. Anaconda and Griffon meat prices are going through the roof. If people are raising the other skills, which will they do first? JC completed in one day, fletching completed the next. Couple of days and a lot of clicking later, and brewing's about done. Pottery over 200 the next day. On the surface, that's well over half the way to the earring in a matter of days. Will they bother? We're talking about people with an excess of AAs already, so the tanaan6 is nothing, and these same people camped emp keys and VT shards, and did chardok and guk and velious faction work already for lesser reward.
Course, real tradeskillers know 5 out of 7 skills is nowhere near, but that's irrelevent. The two remaining skills (smithing and tailoring), melees will already have near 200 smithing from Serubane, casters the same for tailoring from the shawl quest. That leaves them looking for the shotrest route to 220, which is buying up stuff in the bazaar, skyrocketing prices, or AEing huge swathes of farming areas. Will they get the 1000+ combines needed for the 200 to 250 slog? Maybe, maybe not, who cares - the fact is that once prices rise in a matter of days, it takes weeks or months for them to drop down again.
Would I like better stats? Sure, I'd like 100 extra hp on my greaves and a rightclick unlimited CH ring too while you're at it. However, I'm not going to lose any sleep if the stats stay the same.

Guide to flags
This is what I wanted, my appreciation to the person who directed me here. Hope this will help others.
And surprisingly, I do have some of these flags already.

Demorgoth, can you take this to the rants thread if you want to keep trivialising the effort? My guild has killed everything but the Rathe, we have people who play a lot. Yet I'm the only person who has done this earring, I know one other who is working on it and a couple who are thinking about it vaguely.
Of course many of these earrings were made when Sony finally released the info, the components for the platter are common and lots had just been waiting for the last bit. But I'd be very surprised if these get made at a rate of more than one per server per month in the future. People join raiding guilds because they want to RAID, and our raiding takes about 9 hours a day, with no free passes for going off to prectice skills. The number of people in such guilds with both the time and the inclination to complete this quest is very small.
Our melees never bothered to make Serubane weapons because you don't need them to kill Seru perfectly legitimately, an MT with a big taunt proc does the job just fine. People camped shards and the stuff for emp-bane weapons and complained like hell about it too, that's why so many regarded Luclin as the worst expansion for raid guilds.
The earring takes a lot of effort to complete, effort that has to be personal and committed. That's why it should have just a little something to make it stand out, ok?

Why should I go to the rants thread, when I'm not the one ranting and whining about how underpowerered it is?
Please explain where I have EVER triviallised the effort?
I just stated my view that I was satisfied with the earrings (by far the best non-raid item ever put in the game?), and the effect I believe it would have on the tradeskill community as a whole if it was made significantly better. /shrug. You may not agree, but I'm entitled to have a rational point of view without getting flamed aren't I?
We have 2 people with earrings, one 1750 stuck at the fire step after 7 failures, and half a dozen more actively within reach of the final earring. We've got 20+ people PLing baking, and about a dozen on top seriously considering pushing tradeskills to 220 to zerg combines to the final earrings.

Normally I keep quiet in this forum. It's Dandi's bailiwick. But ...
A couple of posts here are border-line on the rant/devolving into flames area.
Play nice people. I'm posting to ask you to take a deep breath or three before firing off a post. Remember, civility only works if you stay civil.

Hello i have a question if someone could please answer. I currently have done the first two earrings and upon going to do the third and told:
While you do have some knowledge of the Planes, you are lacking what I require for any further tasks.
Now from what i have read that means i dont have a flag. But the posted requirement for this is Saryrn. I have that flag. Does anyone have any ideas what I could be missing? And if something else is required might want to update the requirement.

Do you have the flag from killing Saryrn, or the completed Torment-part of the flag (including the Torment basement, and the conclusion of the quest in Tranquility)? Drop by the Seer, write down what flags she says you have (may need to unlock memories first), and we may be able to help. But that would be my bet.Sage Maldisdain Atheist

Did you get Saryn flag by virtue of entering the zone on the back of a flagged raid? As I understand the Grimel quests, you can't bypass anything, and need completly legit storyline flags. As the above poster mentioned, you also have to complete the storyline around the particular listed flag. For saryn, that'll also mean the Keeper Of Souls flag and the pre/post flag hailing and text completion

what i dont understand is the final earrings are both all/all but things like the signet of might cannot be gotten by casters
Shouldn't the usable classes be changed to the classes that can actually get the item?Oberan Lifebringer

Thanks guys, i wasnt sure, but had thought that it might have been the Keeper of sorrows thing. No i havent killed that we are working on backflagging everyone before we push forward again. Might want to include that text on the main walkthrough. Well i guess that gives me time to gain 50 points of tailoring  thanks

Confirmed, I was playing around with the councilman today (hoping for a round robin turn in) and when I asked "what about marked runed signet?" he responded with something along the lines of, "You have come a long way in your journey, but you are still not skilled enough".
I'm the highest tradeskiller on test at 1705. Well legit tradeskiller that is elemental flagged atleast.
Edit: Added log file.
[Thu Apr 24 22:45:30 2003] You say, 'what about marked runed signet?'
