  • Well I have all but the hope stone done now. New earring i love it! Sure wish the final didn't loose its regen though, ft i have too much of and preservation of Xeg is on all the ele arms and the book quest. They love that effect lol. Either way I am soo happy they finally gave us this part of the quest! Grats to all getters and soon to be getters. I am only awaiting the hopestone now .....

Well can't believe we were finally were given enough info to finish this quest. YaY SoE! And grats I!

Btw the platter is only +75 hp/mana on test. So expect to see that nerf next patch.

As for the effects on the final earring, I would of really liked to keep that +5 hp regen. Especially with the cap being over 30 now. Int casters get that pres effect on there ele arms, so thats a bit redundant.

Are all the other classes getting the same final earring? I'm still camping my hope stone, so only have marked atm.

      • Logic dictates there has to be a melee version of the final result. All the other earrings were even mana/hp. The previous earring had an effect beneficial to all. I really can't see them making the final result so heavily biased towards casters. It's still a huge item, it just seems odd to be so skewed. There has to be a second one. Perhaps you only get it if you're a pure melee class (war/monk/rog) or there's some alternate way to turn this one in.

        • The effects on the final earring are useless to 95% of the casters who can get it. Preservation of Xegony is already on elemental pieces, and most casters would already have max FT. Regen was a much better effect.

btw, is the combine for the fletching part still bugged? i cannot combine Marked signet+air bow string+featherwood bow staff+wind metal cam+wind metal cam in any kind of flethcing kit...

          • Bah , why are they nerfing the HP/MANA?

With all those godforsaken components, it's now overbearing.

            These aren't common things.

I still might try making a few of these, though.

Well, in my own interest I certainly hope they don't change the effect because, while they may be useless to 95% of pure casters and priests, they are a godsend for the 4 casting hybrids who do not otherwise have a way to get preservation of xegony, period (except BSTs who can wear the immaculate vest of the fire tyrant). I was disappointed when they changed the secrets of the planes for just that reason--it removed preservation of Xeg for hybrids completely.

It'd be nifty if there was a version of the reward that had a focus that pure casters might care more about. But then again, I've only seen the reward you get when paladins turn in the signet. I assume it's the same as what casters and priests will get, but I don't know for sure.

And regarding the change of platters to 75/75. The problem with food is that no matter HOW hard you make the recipe, an enterprising person only ever needs to have one to get the stat benefit forever. The recipe doesn't seem all that hard when you consider it from the perspective of someone who carefully eats junk to keep from consuming their stat food.

              • So how did you figure out the final combine, iustus? trial and error?

                Comment

                • Every member of my guild has at least 5 buckets of crab legs and I usually keep a stack of claws for replacements. The ONE limiting factor on the Platter is the Poppers but once I verified the recipe last night I got like 20 poppers worth of combines with just me and a ranger and a mage in about 30mins in Nightmare. The Platter is trivial above 250 so it's not easy to make but it is easy to keep one and force feed. We had 3 people finish platters last night, all 250 bakers we went 2/4 1/2 and 2/3 between the 3 of us.

As far as the Earring goes, I think it probably needs a small upgrade. I was expecting something like an Aura of Bravery or Daring type effect and then a suitable focus item on the last earring(or Qhue had speculated it might be right click Aura of Eternity which is 5 regular and 5 mana regen buff). If they are to change the focus on the earring they need to make it Conservation of Xegony which is I believe 20 or 25% mana preservation for ALL spells. It's a step up from Preservation(which is on all but hybrid elemental armor) and it would prevent the hybrids from getting "screwed" out of their foci that they need. I was kind of suprised that the focus of the earring changed from regen(a melee type effect imho) to that of FT and Mana Pres(caster type effects) and was kind of confused why the earring went 130/150(should've been either 130/130 or 150/150, but I'd settle for 140/140 so that the mana and hp are balanced without losing or gaining overall stats). The resists on the earring are fairly good at 15 all(only item I know with overall better resists is the Talisman of Vah Kherrath with 20 to all) and 25 to all stats(but cha, cha always gets left out, dunno why) seems to be the cap on any one item Verant wants to give stats to. Overall it's a suitable reward though I think it's a bit under what some people expected. The only 2 things I'd change would be to even out the mana/hp and to change the foci to one higher and change the ft to Aura of .... for the melee, most people I know who'd do this type of quest either have ft 20+ or the ft doesn't effect them due to being melee, whereas an atk and regen type aura would benefit the melee portion.

                  • Spiritseeker the Aid Grimel text was updated on test(as posted earlier in this thread but the person deleted it so Iustus could finish the quest before it was spoiled, though he wasn't able to do that due to the post). The text said something about a halfling traveling to justice and spending 2x the time there(2 Justice Fruit Pies) then moving to Nightmare at the water while passing to Terris Lair(the Slarghilug Stuffed Popper) then she moved to the lair of the one Terris used to torment(Marr if you read the Ykeesha lore, so a Hero Sandwhich) and then to Rivervale for a picnic basket before departing on her fated journey to water where she was crushed by a regrua trying to obtain one of their deadly claws(the picnic basket and bucket of crab legs). So after reading the clues it was a matter of trial and error for about 6 combines(trying buttered crawdads instead of poppers and candied cockroaches with the one pie before I tried two) and the recipe popped out.

                    • Yep was pretty easy to find recipe, once we were given some direction.

Just did final turn in and got the Signet of the Arcane as a SK. I'm really really REALLY not happy with the effects on Arcane. I honestly felt it should of been given a Unique effect called "grandmaster's whatever" and give it +5 hp/mana regen".

I think the change in the effects is a slap in the face for most casters with the same or better preservations (aten masks, ele sleeves).

                      • Personally I'm pretty happy with what the stats are. I've got a ways to go before I get it since i'm still getting some skills up but it will be very nice to have. I do admit the dropping of regen at the last one was kinda strange.

I think some of the disappoint comes in from spending so much time and effort just trying to randomly guess the right combine since the text didn't give us much of a hint. If it had given us the receipe right off the bat I don't think people would have been disappointed with the current stats.

I'd like to see the effect changed to something along the lines of the Talisman of Vah Kerrath, Blessing of Vah Kerrath, with maybe a bit less hps/mana regen and maybe not the DS but something thats going to be useful to both melee and casters since either can be doing the quest.

                        • Earring has really nice stats and the effects are pretty nice except both effects are completely useless to me at this point. Grats on finally figuring it out though, was a thorn in alot of people's side.

                          • Wow .. that's pretty dissapointing really, especially when you compare this quest to the one for the Secrets of the Planes manual. Aid Grimel's quest is like 10 times harder, and the reward is only marginally better, if even. Hell the effects on the earring are worse. Like many have allready stated for those that can do the quest, FT3 and Preservation of Xegony are redundant and useless, and for the poor pure melee who did this theyre totally screwed on this one. The Arcane Signet doesnt even have a skill mod like the 5 percent dodge on Secrets of the Planes.

All but one of the quest items for the Secrets of the planes quest are from tier 1-3 zones. All of the tradeskill related items can be made by other people, and some dont even require that high a skill. All of the items for the SotP quest can be MQed.

Part of what was fun about Aid Grimel's quest to me was that it was HARD. Nothing is MQable, all the important combines have trivials higher than 250, it cost me like 350kpp to raise skills, etc., most people, even hardcore players, were scared off by the sheer difficulty. The end result is a big let down.

They should have at least put a skill mod on it, and made 3 or 4 versions for melee, priest, hybrid and pure caster, if not 14 class specific versions. This thing should have had aura of bravery, or a mana/hp regen effect (possibly clickable that stacked with all buffs), an instrument mod for bards, something like a spell damage focus effect (there are too many mana pres items, even for hybrids). This quest was that difficult, the end result should have been something special.

I sincerely hope the final reward for this, the mother of all quests, gets beefed up a BIT. bleh

Ummm speak for yourself please How do you know what 95% of casters have? hehe I know many people in my own guild who are not maxed on FT and this earring would help a lot. Seems to me there is probably going to be a different version for melee. Maybe a different focus effect would be more appropriate, but please don't take away the FT VI!!

                              • As a monk, I just need the hope stone to finish the final earring. If i get the arcane earring (and not a pure melee based ear) I'm gonna be pissed and severely disappointed.

(Assuming its a one for all earring)
As stated on FoH boards, this should have some universal effects for all casters/hybrids, along with a regen/vengeance effect for pure melee.

Additionally it should have +5% mod to all 7 tradeskills so we dont have to swap out Geerloks, only makes sense after all the work and clicking involved to get to the 8th and final earring.

Stats on 7th should be inline with the increases from 5 to 6, place the 7th earrings stats at 125hp/mana with the final (8th) earring at 150hp/mana

If there's a pure melee version, I'll report once I find time to get a Hope Stone. I know many are looking to find out if there is or not. Quite simply, there's no need to gear the last earring solely towards casters/hybrids if there is a universal earring.
