From what I am reading it might be a combination of 300 and above skill combined with smithing mastery thats the problem. So since you do not have smithing mastery Angelsyn that could be why your not experienceing any problems. Now its always possible some of these people are just getting horrible luck with the RNG it still seems a little odd. As I posted before I already have SM3 and my skill is at 290 with the 15% modification and at this point I am almost scared to keep skilling up for fear if there is a bug I will end up costing myself a lot of failures.

Success rates for GM Cuirass/Greaves?

Yesterday I had a very very bad run. 300 smithing, salvage 3, OOW blacksmithing 3.
Failed at the DoN GM dwarven cultural legs twice, then failed 4 attempts at legs augment. Came back and made 1 legs, failed an augment, made an augment, failed a bracer combine.
What should my success rate be with the 300 and all aa's over time, because I doubt I'm even close to that myself.
I never started doing any DoN armor until I had 300 and all aa's.
- I just finished going through my 20th bp attempt this week; made 7 only.
- I've made 9 bp augments out of 14 attempts (2 of these were via tailoring route though, so only 7 of 12 attempts via smithing).
- I'm made 6 legs out of 15 attempts.

Angelsyn... Why don't you get the AA's and report back to us how you are doing? That would certainly alleviate some questions.

My actual play-time is very limited... I just recently finally picked up my 7th AA and got Tanaan Mastery to start work on Tailoring (201 now).
Besides, I'm afraid of getting Mastery!I like the success rate I have right now.

I don't blame you Anglesyn I would be afraid to try it myself, but unfortunately I trained the mastery skills before I found out there might be a problem. I wish there was someplace we could get feedback from Sony or even from someone else who had done research into this in more depth. The cost of those combines makes me want to wait until I hear from someone that either there is no bug or that its been fixed.

Skill is 250 +5% Mastery 3.
1/2 on GM Breastplates
2/3 on GM Legs
But i'm still concerned something isn't right somewhere....
I do sickle runs when guildies need tribute stuff...
Routinely I'll get enough to make 80 Celestial Essence and 80 Dust of Tunare. I will normally end up with around 70 CEs and 65 Dusts. Both of which my skill is one point above trivial with no associated bonuses or masteries. I'd expect a fail rate of around 5%, but its closer to 15%.

Ok in reference to the over 300 bug with Blacksmithing mastery skill trained. I was talking to another one of my guilds smith and he says yes there is a bug as he has had strings of as high as 6 in a row failed combines while at 298 plus geerlock and BM3. However he claims if you log out and in or zone you can basicly reset things and then you get the expected results. If any of you are haveing a bad streak try this and give us some feedback.

Everyone with Mastery AA's who has posted here, is confirming that there is a problem (at least from what they can tell).
Has anyone heard anything at all from SoE on this?Mannwin Woobie - 75 Druid and Master Artisan

My experience
With 273 plus 5% skill, blacksmithing mastery 3 and salvage 3: Succeeded 1 of 5 on grandmaster bp's. Salvaged the bp mold twice.
After skilling up to 285 plus all the above: Succeeded one of one on grandmaster bp, legs, arms, bp aug and legging aug. One of two on the sleeves aug.
Skilled up on tae ew tunics, just over 200 combines, which failed on average 3 out of 20, fwiw. Salvaged lots of sheets of metal and one lizard blood temper. Maybe that's normal but it seems like a rather high failure rate on something that's conned green, with geerlok equipped, for several skill points now. Especially with the mastery aa's maxed.
Edit: Did three more grandmaster combines today. bp aug, helm and helm aug. All succeeded. Now 9 of 10 on gm combines since hitting 285 skill. 299 modded.

I see no evidence supporting the notion that mastery or skill over 300 makes you less likely to succeed. But due to (assumed) inherent high fail rates on GM BP/Legs having mastery or 300+ skill also doesn't help you much compare to low skill/no AA, if at all. If the BP/Legs have a min fail rate of 25%, then all you need is 286 modified skill with mastery 3 to have as high a chance making them as anyone else.
