  • Heh, it isn't that, Kanad. I actually already had the updated screenshot; a friend sent me the link the day after the change was made. I just didn't have it on the same PC I usually use to make the updates. I finally got around to posting it over the holiday break. Thankee kindly for the screenshot, though.

    • Marnek resurection

1- All seems to start with this quest :
      http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/q...tml?quest=2172

the text from the note is : ...all our enemies will once again tremble. My friends, the pieces are nearly in place so that our great master, Marnek Jaull may rise up again and spread the cleansing fire of the Burning Prince. Oh, how little our enemies realize! There are some among them who believe they have the knowledge to properly assemble the masters wand. And they deem mere legend the threat of so many of the masters other great weapons and his repository of knowledge that we have carefully safeguarded until this time: his return. The time is near. Rejoice.

When you give it to sir Artanis he says :
Sir Artanis says 'By Marr, what is this? .. Burning Dead .. .. Marnek! By my blade this must be stopped! Where did you find this?'

      You say, 'In Befallen'
Sir Artanis says 'You did well to ride swiftly with this news. I must take this directly to Valeron Dushire. If you learn more about this plot that would unleash this monster upon Norrath or wish to someday soon aid the Knights of Truth in putting down this evil, then return to speak to me again at a later time.'

Thats the good quest part . there is the same quest for the evil .

2- the Phylactery of the Oracle Quest
      http://www.gamesnet.org/KyrosKrane/Oracle
How the good quest starts :

      You say, 'Hail, Sir Artanis'
You say, 'I received your summons'
Sir Artanis says ''Yes _________, thank you for responding with such haste. The Knights of Marr recently captured a Teir'Dal wizard who under intense questioning revealed a variety of disturbing matters. First, he worships Solusek Ro, which is no crime, but considering the nearby temple's past associations with the Burning Dead, specifically Marnek about whom you recently delivered revelations, then his other information seems even more dire. Secondly, he has admitted that he was in Freeport attempting to contact the leaders of the Dismal Rage for he understood that they have nearly completed a phylactery, a device that holds the mortal soul of a lich. In light of this, we ask that you visit the Oracle of K'Arnon in the Ocean of Tears to learn whatever you can about the nature of these phylacteries, including the means to create one so that we better know how to destroy them. This letter will serve as proof that you come in the name of the Knights of Marr.''
So u can get a phylantery + mana crystals but no one know what they are for .

What I have tried to discover is the link between the 2 quests :
In the note the priest says something about assembling the master wand „³ Marnek wand .
After some search I found some lore from the Freeport monk red sash quest : http://www.allakhazam.com/db/quest.html?quest=592
      'Hail, Reyia Beslin'

Reyia Beslin says 'Greetings, Bodi . I am Reyia Beslin of the Ashen Order. I help to train our members and I am in charge of handing out the orange and red Sashes of Order. Would you like to know [how you can get an orange sash]? Or maybe you think you are ready to earn the [red sash]?

'I am ready for the red sash'

Reyia Beslin says 'So, you think you are skilled enough to earn the red Sash of Order, Bodi ? I have just the [task] for you then. But be warned, this will be the toughest challenge you have faced yet. There are many legends and myths of great heroes and ancient evils from all over Norrath. Here in Freeport, we get travelers from all over the world, and we get their tales as well. The point is that most of these stories are just that, stories and fairy tales. Told to amuse people and frighten children. I also thought the tales I'd heard about the [Marnek Jaull] were only legends, but now I know better.

      'Who is Marnek Jaull?'

Reyia Beslin says 'Marnek Jaull led a cult of necromancers who followed the Burning Prince, Solusek Ro. He built an army, known as the Burning Dead, and spread destruction and fire throughout Antonica. Over the years, the Burning Dead fought many fierce and bloody battles with the paladins of Prexus, the Oceanlord. Though Marnek achieved many victories over the paladins, ultimately they were able to defeat him and destroy the Burning Dead. Legends say that before his defeat, Marnek created many powerful weapons and items, and wrote many books on his findings in the areas of magic. Many of these items were hidden away from the paladin forces, and remain untouched, waiting for Marnek's return, as the legends go.

      'What task?'

Reyia Beslin says 'I've heard a few legends of a powerful wand that Marnek himself used to wield. This was known as the wand of the Burning Dead, and was rumored to instill its owner with mystical energies. The legends I have heard all differed on the wand's creation and powers, but the basic story was always the same. I will [tell you the legend] if you like. The task I have for you is to bring me the two parts that make up the wand of the Burning Dead, before they can be assembled and used for evil once again. Bring me [Marnek's wand] and the [Sapphire of Souls], along with your orange sash, and you will have proven yourself a loyal member of the Ashen Order, worthy of receiving the red sash.

'I would like you to tell me the legend'

Reyia Beslin says 'The legend of the wand of the Burning Dead goes basically like this, though you may hear slighty different versions from others. Marnek did a lot of experiments and created an unknown number of diabolical artifacts and weapons. One of his creations was this wand. Marnek fashioned a charred wand from the scorched bone of a paladin of Prexus, and Solusek Ro himself created the wretched Sapphire of Souls. Then, Marnek and his priests combined these, with the Burning Prince's blessing, to create the wand of the Burning Dead. Marnek used this Wand and its powers in his evil and destructive reign over Antonica. Years later, as Marnek starting losing battles to the paladins of Prexus, one of his own followers, a necromancer named Kenox, was able to steal the wand. Sensing Marnek's defeat, Kenox made his way toward Odus, hoping to strike a deal with the paladins for the wand. Would you like me to [tell you about Kenox]?

'I would like you to tell me about Kenox'

Reyia Beslin says 'Well, Kenox was not as sly as he liked to think he was. Marnek knew full well what he was up to, but let him continue with his plans. Kenox had arranged to meet with two paladins late one nght on a small island in Erud's Crossing, a place that would be considered neutral ground. Sir Toran Neshal, leader of the paladins, knowing the power of the wand, was certainly not going to make any deals with a servant of Solusek Ro, and definitely not foolish enough to take any chances with this mission. Imagine the look on Kenox's face when a ship carrying more than 25 paladins, including Sir Toran, arrived at the small island! The paladins immediately captured Kenox and the wand, and headed back to Erudin. Would like me to [tell you what happened to Toran]?

      'What happened to Toran?'

Reyia Beslin says 'Below the deck of the ship, Toran and his men questioned Kenox and carefully inspected the wand. Toran ordered one of his men to pick up the wand and try to identify its true powers. The man picked up the wand, but was unable to decipher its magic. He handed it to Toran, just as Marnek and Solusek had hoped, and the wand exploded, instantly incinerating the ship and everyone aboard, and lighting up the night sky with a giant fireball. Marnek's plan had succeeded. With the help and blessing of the Burning Prince, they had destroyed Sir Toran and an entire squad of Prexus' finest paladins. Years later, though, the paladins were able to regroup and ultimately defeat Marnek. The wand of the Burning Dead was destroyed and gone forever. Or least, that's what we thought. This wand must never be allowed to be made whole again.

And then found this quest : http://www.allakhazam.com/db/quest.html?quest=730
Basically you assemble the marnek wand : http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=3671 which has 2 charges of fire bolts ¡K maybe what killed the paladins in the red sash quest lore .
This quest is given by Opal Darkbriar in east Freeport ¡K a really strange npc :
There is 2 Opal Darkbriar : 1 is in east Freeport tunnels and seems to lead the Dismal Rage , she is DE necromancer and the other one is the arcane leader in west Freeport , she is HE wizard .
Maybe the DE Opal is the leader the ¡§captured a Teir'Dal wizard¡¨ had come to talk with „³ maybe she know something about the phylantery.
While looking for opal I found some new npcs in the West Freeport tunnels : they do not exist on allakazam . When hailed one of them tells us to leave west Freeport as the dismal rage has corrupted it and even the arcane guild seems corrupted . He says Opal Darkbriar is hiding something and is trying to influence other casters .
Maybe the DE opal and the HE opal are the same . one being a character for the good quest part and the other for the evil part .

        The shadow man quest :
        Ssynthi interaction…

You say, 'A new breed of shadowed man walks Norrath. What can you tell me of the deathspeakers?'
Ssynthi says 'Ah, so the deathspeakers have decided to reveal themselves again. They are beings who claim they are closer to the realms of the dead than any other known race, and they have been known to rally the shadowed men in times when they deem other races to be dabbling too much in the powers of death and rebirth. Just as shadowed men as a whole despise those of us who follow Solusek Ro because they deem all of magic to have sprung from themselves.'

You say, 'Could it concern the Burning Dead's plan to resurrect Marnek?'
Ssynthi says 'Marnek, you say?! I admit that rumors have come to me concerning an alliance between the Temple of Ro and the Burning Dead, and perhaps this is the goal of that union. I must therefore act, for who knows the shadowed men better than I? But I cannot leave this place right now. Will you help me in this task?'

You say, 'I will help you'
Ssynthi says 'Then take this and collect within the drops of shadow that spill when a deathspeaker is killed. There will be a deathspeaker wherever shadowed men can be found, but even more important is the location of Ytyrs the Reborn. His shadow must be collected as well. And have care not to mix this shadow stuff with drink lest you unleash a dangerous magic.'

Ssynthi gives you an 8-slot Cauldron of Shadow Essense, and then it's off to find the Shadowed Men!

I suppose in hindsight one could say EQ planned to have only 7 Shadowed Man camps scattered about the old world because of a long-term plan to add this stuff much later on in the game's lifecycle…NAH! Hehe.

So you go to each Shadowed Man camp at Nektulous, Innothule, West Commons, Kithicor, Lavastorm, Lesser Fay and South Karana. A rare drop from each camp is a Vial of Shadow, no-drop and lore. Each Vial identifies differently…

Innothule - Shadow of the first Deathspeaker
Nektulous - Shadow of the second Deathspeaker
Lavastorm - Shadow of the third Deathspeaker
Lesser Fay - Shadow of the fourth Deathspeaker
South K. - Shadow of the fifth Deathspeaker
West C. - Shadow of the sixth Deathspeaker
Kithicor - Shadow of the seventh Deathspeaker

Then you find Ytyrs in Rathe Mountains, at the undead circle. He drops Vial of Ytyrs the Reborn.

Toss them all into the Cauldron, combine, and you get a Concoction of Shadow, which identifies as the "Shadow of the eight Deathspeakers", or "essence of", I forget. Handing it into Ssynthi gets you a...

        • as i dont have enought tradeskills i cant make the phylantery .

But could someone try giving manacrystals / Phylantery to both Opals ? or maybe to sir Artanis superior ( Veleron ).

the shadowman quest seems to have a tradeskill combine : maybe combining some liquid with the vial from the named shadow man in Rather mountains .

Anyone know what is the third item to make the wand ? maybe u can give the wand back to Opal for another quest .

That would be Valeron Dushire, in the Hall of Truth (Paladin guild house). Valeron is the leader of the Knights of Truth, and one-time ruler (though he would probably classify it as administrator) of Freeport before Lucan usurped (or possibly just refused to yield back) the position. The "common" story is that Valeron gave Lucan command of Freeport while the Knights of Truth went on a crusade in Faydwer; Lucan then refused to give back command when the Knights returned. An alternate theory is that Lucan merely did what he had to do and refused to return command because the Knights were in no position to reestablish control over Freeport. This is something of a hot topic for the role-playing inclined paladins.

It should be noted that the Shadowman quest is now broken because of the Guktans taking over Grobb -- Innothule was redone during that change, and the Shadowed Man camp that used to be there no longer exists. As a result, one of the drops needed for this quest can no longer be obtained in game. If anyone has the needed drop from before the change, it might be worth investigating.

It seems that the quests relating to Marnek and Miragul are somewhat intertwined, if only because they all originate from the pen and paper roleplaying game. Does anyone know of a connection between these two characters? Maybe the mana crystals are needed to "charge" the wand or some such?

I handed the mana crystals and the token of service individually and together to both the good opal and the pally leader (Veleron)
... they both handed them back.

                • I wanted to do this quest. I ordered the Temple of SolRo RPG. Received it yesterday. No where in there can I find the key words to start the quest. When I hail the oracle he says something like all I got to say to you is don't kill the oracle. (forgot the correct phrase he used). When I try to do turnin of letter, he gives back saying I have no use for this item. WTF?? Please don't tell me I have spent more RL money for yet another verant time sink that can't be done. Btw, I am highelf wizard level 65 Time enabled.

                  • Either find the various posts that Kyroskrane made that have links to his detailed write-up, or check the other topic I made with nearly the same name but with the added "tradeskills only". It can be found a bit further down this page. Besides being dedicated to the Tradeskill parts of the actual quest, the first two posts in there are made by me and contain a detailed write up of the quest as well (the only thing lacking are the trivial levels in some cases).

I uncovered this quest soon after the GRotO quest became public knowlage, and soon discovered it could not be finished. So I petitioned it. A GM responded, he told me that indeed the camp in inothull was in the process of being moved he suplied me with the missing vial so I could continue questing.

However I think the quest is broken in a second way as well. after handing in the final combine Ssynthi does not say anything at all, he only hands you the item. No thank you, no link to continuation of the quest.. nothign at all... it seems very unfinished .. I tried many lines to triger a posible second part without luck. I even went to sol ro tempel to try and get something out of the gini. (was max ally) only responce out of him was faction hits on hails and the default awnser on "who is solusek ro" question.

I do think all these quests are linked togehter.

                            • I think the Penumbral Rod is less interesting in the other quest than what Ssynthi says in response to 'I will help you' ... the text about mixing shadow with drink isn't in the fiction in the Monsters of Norrath book where the quest came from.

And have care not to mix this shadow stuff with drink lest you unleash a dangerous magic.
I'm sure it'll be dangerous like achieving lichdom was all that was cracked up to be, but who knows... I can still dream.
