    HEY!

I don't see this addressed elsewhere in the thread.

I did a search for that name in Hotbot and got:

Kava Kava is an herb used by the South Pacific islanders for centuries as a ceremonial, stress relieving drink. Depending upon geography, it is known by several different common names such as awa, yaqona, LAWENA and waka, to name a few.

Kava ... The other names: Kava, Kawa, Kawa Kawa, Awa, Waka, LAWENA, Yaquon ... It is also pleasant to drink a cup of kava before going to go to bed because it facilitates ...

I wonder if her name is a play on that and has something to do with such a drink in game? I can't remember hearing of any drinks with names like that though.

I still think it might just be RP flavor going nowhere.

Ah, what I looked up was actually

    Lawena drink

Lawena alone is not as fruitful, some other stuff:

The villagers take a crushed root and pour cold water over it. They pass around a coconut shell filled with the crushed root and water. Each villager takes a drink and passes the shell until the final participant receiving the shell, takes the last sip and spits the mouthful to the ground as an offering to the gods for a rich harvest.

...Georg Forster in 1777. He named the kava plant Piper methysticum, or, intoxicating pepper.

Preparation: 20g of root for 30cl of water at the rate of 2 cups a day (it's better to cut water with some milk for a more effective action, on the other hand some people drink their kava with a ball of ice as a milk-shake!). It is possible too, to chew the root.

Missionaries came to the islands and forbade the use of kava, partly because of the traditional way of chewing the root before consumption which added saliva to the final concoction.

I have noticed only mild relaxing effects from consuming two cups of hot kava tea ...

      Tagglefoot Tingle Drink

Unfortunately, Lewena was not interested in the Tagglefoot Tingle Drink. Just for kicks I gave her the Bixie Berry Buns, which she didn't want either.

      The search continues...

Hmmm.... you may have a point that he consistantly said "ales", this could very well be a hint...

has anyone tried "Gruppa's poppin ale"? I didn't see it in the list of things tried. It needs two gnomish spirits (thus the gnome connection) and it IS an ale. Could someone please try this to confirm? The recipie is in the website but I shal repost it here along with the subcombines.

2 bottles fizzlepop, 2 bottles gnomish spirits, infected rat liver, pixie dust, cask.

Fizzlepop: soda water, fruit juice, bottle

        Soda water: soda, water flask

Gnomish Spirits: rice, spider legs, rat ears, cask

I still think the final comment patting his bag commenting about how good tinkers make ale carriers is in reference to the tinker's bag.

OK, I'm getting royally frustrated now. Yesterday, I decided to give this a shot. So, I go off to get the components. Soda? Check. Spirits? Check. Pixie dust? On my mule. OK. Rat liver? ... um ... nope.

OK, off to newbie zones. Spend an hour in North & South Qeynos checking vendors and whacking rats ... nope, these are all healthy. Freeport ... another hour of scouring vendors, killing the odd guard, and whacking rats. Nope, no infestations here. Someone suggested Toxx, and lo and behold, there are lots of "an infected rat" running around. Two hours of rat farming later, no livers.

So, where do these livers drop? I've seen them before on vendors, but I can't recall where. Oh, and before someone else says it's from PoD, not newbie zones, the PoD rats drop a "disease infested rat liver", not an "infected rat liver".

                Interesting about the Kava

So to follow from Aandaie's research, I would suspect we need to combine foraged roots in a mortar and pestle, possibly with some reagent (acid?). If not foraged roots, perhaps an alchemy component, such as mandrake (with which we brewers are already familiar). It would then follow that we would take the resulting mixture, add 1 (perhaps 2?) flasks of water, 1 milk, and a timorous coconut.

Another possibility is that we have to figure out a way to convert the timorous coconut into a container (coconut cup?). The only thing I can think of would be to combine the coconut in a tradeskill container with a foraging machette; a forge maybe? A kiln? *shrug*

Ok, coffee wearing off. Brainstorm over.

Would this not imply that the container (as oppose to the combiner) would either be tinkered by a gnome or only be purchasable only in Ak'Anon?

This may be right. I found some rat livers on the vendors in the windmills in Steamfont, so I didn't whack a rat or three, but it sounds right.

Unfortunately, Gruppa's Poppin Ale is not her drink of choice. Back to the drawing board.

maybe like the POK museum quests something foraged in or a recipe from each expansion? or only the expansions to luclin?

                      1. roots & water in mortar and pestle
                      2. milk, Timorous Coconut, & chunk of ice. or maybe iceball

or maybe items made from forages like

                      1. Pixie Powder Cinnesticks & fizzlepop in mortar & pestle

                      2. with, Eggnog XXX, Root beer float, & timorous coconut in Brew barrel

plenty of other possibilities with forages alone, black root, plains root, will be trying as many as i can find after work tonite

Hey, I know cross posting is bad, so I'll justy jump up and down and point wildly at the baking section. Someone brought up a "Gnomish Cooking Pot". Believed to be vendor fodder, could this be part of an undiscovered brewing recipe" i.e. the gnomish drink we've been speculating about?

                            OK, couple of updates.

The Summoned: Ale from the Fisherman's companion isn't it.

I tried combining Roots, Plains Roots, and ... (something) Roots (forgot the exact name now) in a mortar and pestle. I did each of the roots alone, two roots, one root with water, two roots with water, one root with two water, and two roots with two water. All were DNC.

Any other ideas? (Aside from trying more root varieties, of course. )

                              Roots combine

Well, something that had occurred to me after reading some of the other follow ups to Aandaie's post: try working in either milk or vampire bat saliva (the only saliva in game that I'm aware of (ok, Lucy search also turned up Luggald Saliva and Tortoise Saliva. The tortoise saliva, like the vampire bat saliva is combinable)).

Another thing is that since he has named the root of the kava plant intoxicating pepper, perhaps we should be trying the habaneros instead.

So Habanero + water (+ a jar of acid?) in mortar & pestle = crushed root

crushed root + timorous coconut (possibly prepared into a container in some way) + milk + ice ball + vampire bat saliva in brewbarrel = kava tea

Aside from substituting a habanero pepper for the kava root, perhaps attempt with mandrake root (from alchemy vendors), or (oooh!!!) partially digested root. An item search for root on Lucy's turned up 32 root or rootlike items, 20 of which are combinable, and 5 of which are food items.

On a completely separate note, after looking over the original list, I see that Grimroot Tea was not tried...
