  • I understand being irked by it, heh, I don't blame anyone really. It's one of those unexpected curves at the end of the road that catches most off gaurd.

I can attest to that being bullhonkey. I had originally made a necro that was my primary tailor. Since I wasn't flagged for PoEarth at the time, I had to buy all of the components in the bazaar. Generally, I had about a 3 to 1 return on plat I spent. Within two months already had banked over 800k.

You "can" make money buying items in the bazaar for tradeskills, however you have to plan into it your rate of success, cost of items and how much you can sell the final product for. Buying 4 Metallic Drake Scales (example) for 60k on Tunare would mean that I have to make atleast 500k off the GM Armor and Symbol with no fails. That is not worth the cost at all. However, if you can get them for 15-25k like i've seen time to time, it lowers the cost of items, so getting about 250k between the GM armor+symbol isn't all that bad of a deal.

        • Where are we going

Was just curious of where this thread was going. The last few people who posted here started talking about combines. Thought this was about vendor diving.
Speaking of whitch.....Bought a pair of Acrylia legs off a vendor in POK for 148 pp. Sold them for 2500 pp in bazaar.

                      • I wore the Advisor's Robe I found...

on a vendor in Felwithe 4 years ago for 21pp for months and was the envy of all the people in my guild who had paid 250pp for it in the EC tunnel.

On the subject of vendor diving, how hard would it be to add a dialogue with the vendor that went something like this?

(Vendor): "Hello Brosh, are you interested in the rusty dagger I just got in?"

(me): "Do you have any Blue Diamond?"

(Vendor): "My! It just so happens I do at only [263pp] each." (Blue Diamonds appear in sale box as normal.)

The other thing I would do if I were in charge is eliminate useless vendor loot like ruby crowns, emerald rings, etc from the game and replace them with gem drops of roughly equivalent value.

One man's junk is another man's treasure.
Please ignore the previous statement if everyone knows there is no junk.

It takes research to distinguish vendor-loot from valuable quest or tradeskill items. Most people will sell valuable items to vendors because they can't tell the difference. It makes this game more complex, more organic, deeper. I play EQ because it's deep.
I tried combining Celestial Solvent, a Raw Rough Hide, Rough Hide Solution and a Skinning Knife. But the result was such an oxymoron, it opened a rift into another universe. I fell through into one of Nodyin's spreadsheets and was slain by a misplaced decimal.

If you can show me a use for a ruby crown that I've overlooked I'd be happy to hear it. Here's how much research it took me last night to distinguish vendor-loot from valuable quest or tradeskill items during a session in NC: I right-clicked on each item, if it had a tradeskill tag it went in one bag, the others went in the vendor-loot bag. Upon return to PoK I went to the vendor, if they'd give me more than 5pp for it, it was vendor loot, if they offered under a plat for it it was for a tier 1 or 2 OoW armor quest item. How tough is that?

BTW, horse manure is complex, organic and deep, especially in EQ , but hip boots spoil the lines of my dress.

That's more work than a lot of people will do, and it's not always so simple. There's a lot of junk out there, especially from forage, that's useless and sells to a vendor for 2cp. There's also a lot of valuable quest items which sell for more than 1pp. In the zones you were hunting, the items that sell for 1pp or less were either tradeskill or quest. It's cool that you know that and it gives you an advantage over Joe Blow who sells those T2 OOW drops to a vendor.

BTW, I don't like the tradeskill tag because it takes away some of the advantage of the curious. If we get a similar tag for quests, the dumbing-down of loot will be completely. There will be no skill left in distinguishing the valuable from the junk.

Yes! Comparing EQ to fertillizer is extremely apt. There's a lot of life in that dung. Without that sort of organic stuff, a forest becomes a barren wasteland. That's consistent with what I've heard about some of the newer MMORPGs. Like a field of pure sand, they're cleaner, more logical, and devoid of interest.
