Only thing I can figure is that the RNG was kicking your butt, keep up with the SS. Honestly, it's a pretty good route.

Look for my post on the below listed thread:

when the owlbears were up i simply pulled around 30 - 50 of them at a time... then used my druid to Upheavel.. DEAD! Is fun and i got 10 stacks in about 5 hours... Good thing is the spawn rate is so fast.. it was constant..

On the edge - the drop looks rather attractive

Tried the int/wis penalty theory. Upgraded all my items to get them both over 100. Got KEI on top and str still 255.

Another stack of swirling shadows bites the dust - no skill ups.

Thats 210 combines for 1 skillup.
          Soooo hacked off.
I now realise why their are no GM troll smiths on my server.

try a couple more stacks with your new smithing upgrades. I occasionally get no skillups on a stack. Since you've upgraded, you need to start over on your skillups. As in, you've done 20 combines with no skillups using your upgrade. Try a couple more stacks. Also, that is just a half stack of combines if you only used one stack of swirling shadows. This is common. Don't give up bro

As a Shadowknight, you are probably not welcome to farm at the Katta entrance. There are guards there and they don't like the 'evil' classes (Nec, SK). You can farm the wolves from the tunnel that leads to Grimling Forest However. Some of these mobs will still be light blue to you.

I did lots of farming here, went from 45 - 51 while farming Shadowscream drops about a year ago.

I've done the boot delivery part of Barkhem's quest. Carry the fancy pants around, too. The text wasn't different a few months ago. I wonder if you give him a shadowscream bp if it will do something.

65 enc WTB sonic wolf killing machine

Thanks to the barb who posted about useing a druid to AE owl bears. I have been able to farm about 20 stacks in two days. Vary good plan.

Im haveing the same problem as original poster. No sonic wolfs for me because the zone in broken on my server. I know there will be a ptatch in a few days but im not sure i know enough yet to be able to win the war when it comes up. Secoundly im a 65 enc w/DC and all my spells im pretty well off in AAs. but it was realy hard to solo these TB wolfs when i was 60 im not sure maybe things have changed but any one have any stratages for me to try when i go do em?

                  Thanks,
                  Slycat

For the war in HM, this is my experience. The attacks are random. I heard many times that killing X named will get X to attack something or Y to attack X. I have had that happen once in MANY attempts to start an attack. (I think now it was just coincidence.)
Just hang out on south island killing the chief and bodyguards. When what you want finally gets around to attacking, just wax the defenders and wait. Very easy for me. I use Upheaval and level 63 cleric hammer and solo very easily. (If I am feeling very lazy, I will get a shaman ds potion for giggles.)
As for skillups. I went over 100 combines with no skillups once. /Rude RNG. Then improved skills on 3 successive combines. Just one of those things. I usually do 20 combines at a time. If I don't get any skillups, I stop for the night. Am currently at 200 skill in smithing, with 49 combines and no skillups. (No, I don't have any other trades above 200 )
                    Just keep pluggin.
Oh, 280 wis, unbuffed. Only need to max one. It's the top of Wis, Int, or Str that is used. I never use +smithing mods when skilling up. Who wants SS armor? It's junk. I use mods for production items. (Cultural mainly)

At last - a skill up

Thanks for all the advice - today I got KEI and tried SS Collars rather than the SS boots I was doing with such an abysmal skill up rate. Got skillups - woot

So, with int and wis both over 100, str maxed out and doing SS Collars I got 2 skill ups in 20 combines. Could still be completely random effect and the 192 hell point but I am happy.

                        So what about swirling shadows?

I have heard that the best place to farm swirling shadows is in Twilight Sea, but where? Someone said the island near the Katta entrance; is that the island with the dock people?

It's the island with all the guys in black robes on it. Most of them have 'shadow' in their name.

As you leave Katta turn left and you will find the right island near the edge of the zone.

TS is only for quaders and Higher level Melee, the MoBs have a 150 HP life tap that procs fairly regularly. If you can stand up to them, then it is a great camp. otherwise there is a cave in shadeweavers that would likely be better (Shadeweavers cave may actually be better for pure farming of shadows, but I can cover incedental (mold/water/ore) costs from farming in TS)

Which cave? Until now i have been farming shadow around the lesser shade spawn spot around the cave entrance that leads to Paludal.

Thanks so much for mentioning the lesser shade spawn spot, Zera. I was going nuts trying to chase them around the newbie area and getting a measly 1 or 2 over the course of a couple hours. In that corner I got 6 in about 20 minutes

The northeast corner of Shadeweavers is *the spot to get Swirling shadows if you're not up to TS hunting.

                                Happy smithing,
