  • Trophy and Shadowscream

I got my smithing trophy quest last night and one of the items was Shadowscream something (don't remember exactly and can't log in right now to check). My skill is currently at 255. I noticed on another thread that the trophy requirements at 300 did not mention Shadowscream.

I have not done any Shadowscream to this point and it's not so much doing gathering and doing the combines as doing the pre-quests that I would hope to avoid. I am wondering if I skill up some more if anyone has any idea at what point the Shadowscream would disappear as one of the requirements? I had initially been thinking that maybe all the required combines would be none trivial, but I checked the one other that I could remember (Bundled Acrylia Arrow shafts) and that appears not to be the case.

Anyone with higher skill, but less than 300 - do you have Shadowscream as a requirement? Or does anyone know for a fact that the requirements only change every 50 points? (I confess that I am a bit confused trying to sort through the thread in the general section).

    Thanks in advance.

Edit: Never mind. Found my answer in Primal Scream. I didn't think to look there. It looks like bad news.

yeah I will think about changing it. if I can find something apropriate to do instead. need to include drops that are not "walks in the park" (I.E. way easy to atain drops... though it does not need to be Cazic Thule difficulty either)

      Shadowscream requirement?? Gross.

I did not use the shadowscream route because I didn't want to farm greens for the drops and wasn't interested in doing the progressive quest leading up to it. Instead I did acrylia plate armor, magnetic armor, bazu armor and various GoD weapons to advance thru the 245-260ish range. Perhaps one of those items could replace the shadowscream (emphasize SCREAM) requirement. None of them are cheap combines and all require mob drops, so they could not be store-bought.

How about a charged magnetic bracer?

        Triv 262
magnetic stuff easy to come by, BUT lightning cores are not
only takes 1 lightning core (but asking for a charged BP which takes 4 cores would be over teh top, IMO)

Only problem with lightning cores is that you MUST be level 65 to get into MPG, which is the only location where they drop. I've never actually seen a lightning core, in baz, vendor, or as a drop.

i would think acrylia would be a more reasonable replacement for shadowscream. please not lightning cores =/ those things cost 10kp in the bazaar, if you can ever find one, and with ALL The lightning guys we've killed in mpg i've never seen one drop. unless that's not where they drop!

magnetic bracer would be alright too, drops for that are random rare in Dranik's scar, not a walk in the park (a swarm of greens killed me when i wasn't paying attention, sigh) but anyone can get there.

then again i'm ok with shadowscream. i did the quests for it because i like quests. i didn't do shadowscream as a skillup route for very long because i found it incredibly annoying. nearly destroyed the stuff 2 years ago when i dinged 250, but for some reason i kept it. hopefully i can find a store with the expansion today and get to work on my trophy =)

My smith skilled up on acyrlia and old cultural - plus a fair few sickle in the early days of the potc quest.

I didn't do Shadowscream for the reasons as above, and actually didn't need to do any farming as he was on a new server, and played a part in establishing a viable ecconomy.

He was thus already at 250 before the release of GoD and didn't do the GoD quests either.

I have recently returned to EQ after 2 years. Whilst I have GoD and all other expansions, I only expected PoR to be required.

I didn't expect to have to do anything in GoD - the aligned ore is now quite a rarity - managed to pick up 4 bricks in bazaar before the first post patch patch, but don't expect to come by much more that route in the near future.

I am honestly happier with Shadowscream being part of this than GoD crafted items that also require JC.

I am happy that there is not a reliance on enchanted ore - that was always a money sink for me without a high level enchanter bot.

Edit: Ack looked into it further - looks like I might also need drops from KT (nihilite)

Looks like I will have to live in bazaar and maybe take out a mortgage to get access to drops

Ngreth posted about not requiring CT drops - looks like CT will be a walk in the park compared to what is already required

Would prefer Tae Ew myself, even Tae Ew plate!

Charged armour should be a higly big NO, as Berserkers also need the Cores for their epics, too much of a demand and not enough of a supply will cripple everyone further.

Thanks for looking into it Ngreth, was going to look at the other Master tasks and see if any of them had pre-quests to do before any combines. I'm sure we're in safe hands

I also think that requiring lightning cores for progression is a bit over the top. They are extremely rare. On my server, you can generally find 4-8 ice or flame for sale, but 0-1 lightning core in the bazaar. When it is for sale, it goes for 20k+. In all my time hunting in MPG, I've only seen two lightning cores drop. I've collected half a dozen flames in RSS, easy.

I would think that the magnetic armor combines would be enough in most cases. You can choose a piece that is way more difficult to farm than shadowscream, and yet relieve the faction/quest part of the task.

You could also consider black acrylia. You need the bricks and the blood.

I would think that Tae Ew is probably acceptable as well, although the requirement for plate would be a big pain.

Even muramite sheets and links, although only accessable in high end zones, are more widely available due to a favorable drop rate.

BTW, I saw the requirement for shadowscream and decided to do my tailoring trophy first. All things considered, it will be easier to do and I'll get more benefit from the +8 mod in tailoring than smithing, what with the success caps. Plus, on my server historically speaking, drake hides have been a lot cheaper than drake scales.

A lot of people have used Shadow Screem to skill up, and it won't really be a big problem for them. Sorry it's a pain if you haven't done it, but let it stay. Don't start making changes to make it easier for some already.

Oh, I forgot to say. These are great. You've done a wonderful job on them. They are a pain, but that's part of what makes them fun.

What I don't get is some people being ok with things like Lightning Core, but not wanting Shadowscream. It's not like you have to farm a great deal to make 3 items...and the pre-quest is not THAT time consuming. I've done it on 3 different characters (before I realized you could trade the bloodling mail).

It's a heck of a lot easier than trying to get a Lightning Core.

I'm not even sure acrylia armor is much better as a replacement. Unless I'm just missing some amazing farming spot, I'd much rather do some SS than try to get Essences of Wind. Spent all night last night farming enough for my own Journeyman Smithing Trophy.
