Well, you can skip a bit in the quest then.

Have your Alt make the Shadow Disks & Humming Orbs. I know there was some way you could skip some stuff to the quest if you had a particular stage Hammer (and were flagged as having done the quest already), but I don't recall the exact details.

As I recall, this work-around was put in back when you could accidentally leave stuff in the Forge and lose your Hammer/Anvil.

I personally was one of those smiths skilling up and avoiding shadowscream, but I did the quest because of the trophy. It really only took me about 4 hours or so to finish the quest. In my opinion that task is much easier than hunting some of the rare materials for other trophies.

I caught the task yesterday for all my tradeskills and was all but happy.
I wont do smithy trophy as I have the mod+15% gloves from VT - and beeing at 284 I am not about to go for a 8% trophy.

I did my experts trophy yesterday on fletching - result is 5/7 evolution with 8% mod. I am at 282 fletching. I performed 10 combines triv 295 resp. 302 and I saw NULL evolving - still at 0% - taking this into acout I would guess it takes >1000 combines to evolve the item to 6/7 - I guess I need less combines to be 300 in skill - BUT how to get material for 1000 combines - it took me 2 months of bazar mining to gather material for 50 combines and that consumed 100kpp

My lesson learned - skill up to 300 and do quest than.

M2C to the quest combines - NO shadowscream and stay to zones that are common for groups.

            DoN
            DoD
            PoR

stay off from combines that need long camping material in zones like CT, WW or elsewhere.
Take fletching as a positive example - all combines are reduced to have:
            Dicordant stone (GoD common drop)
Drake wing bone (DoN uncommon, but small quantity in bazar)
            Dragorn wing bone (DoN common)
Drakespike (DoN uncommon, but small quantity in bazar)
Girplan feather (OoW uncommon, but small quantity in bazar)

I could manage to solve expert's task in less than 2 hours. That's ok

I am not worried about 4 hrs farming - I spent the better part of 8 hrs in PoK auctioning for Nihilite, whist using box account to do the same in bazaar.

All to do combines that were trivial for me when GoD was released

Yeah, I don't really understand why people are complaining more about the Shadowscream than about the aligned ore and raw pale nihilite. The prequests for doing Shadowscream take, what, about 2 hours?

Omg, and you need shimmering aligned ore too. I'd much rather do Shadowscream than farm KT+ or dealing out thousands of plat.

Shadow scream quests arent very bad, except for getting the 10 shells for first one.

Alot easier than trying to find an ogre shaman for the pottery trophy, that took me 2 days to get imbued jade. lol

I had deleted the hammer and anvil when I passed the trivial on the ShadowScream Chest peice since I needed the bank slots. Took me about an hour to get the 16 carapaces I needed, must faster than it used to be.

I noticed that most times people asking for changes to the tradeskill trophee quests, it is because the item is "hard" to get i.e. expensive due to normal rarity or not bazaar buyable

IMO a tradeskill trophee should not be as easy to get as some of the current versions are. Buying the necesary items and combining and finishing off a tradeskill quest in 2 hours seems excessively easy to me.

Shadowscream does almost have the benefit of the no drop item.... Someone needs to do some subcombines to avoid the no drop part.

I wish that at least 25% of the combines on a trophee require some actual gathering of items thru subquests or hunting.

I also feel that needing drops from high level zones should not be needed unless the items are very common and usually vendor sold as cash loots/bazaar sold. Basicly that makes the item on par with vendor sold items.

Nothing wrong with a lvl 50-60 character to work a tradeskill to 300, or even a lvl 40 ish character.

I do however feel that consideration should stop around the 45 ish lvl. Below that it is easy enough to get to lvl 45 or higher and if you are a genuine first toon, you won;t have the funds to support leveling up many tradeskills to level 300 anyway. 51 would be the most natural lvl to consider tradeskill trophees of 250/300 as doable as that's the level where you can kick in some aa's too

shadowscream can be annoying to skill up with, but to make one piece its easy, the items are easy to get. If you havent done the quest you can sometimes find the BP for sale in the bazaar.

Ack! Well, I did it on my cleric. Hadn't used shadowscream, so had to do all the prequests to get the hammer and such. It took me about 5 hours one night to complete all of it so that I could finish my smithing quest. Now it might get changed. /sigh

That's what I get for being overeager. lol

I skilled up from 222 to 249 and then again from 250 to 265 (after destroying my hammer/anvil and doing the quest for it over). It's tedious, it's kinda boring, it's fun as heck if you have a friend with an AE spell to help you nuke the snot out of those critters.

It's also cheaper than the alternatives and the cash came in handy when it came time to do sickles from hell.

                                Much ado about nothing imo.
