    Note. I said *Might*

I was not fully convinced a change was necessary... and continued discussion is leading me to think that I should not change it. I am still open to discussion about it, but it is looking like I will be leaving it. The 2-5 hours I have been seeing just does not seem at all unreasonable. My current worry though is Iksar. If iksar cannot do it due to their faction, I will likely change it. I do not believe it is fair to restrict a race from doing the trophy.

If it is just more difficult for Iksar though, and still possible... I may still leave it. When you make an Iksar Character, it does say that it will be difficult!

I'm quite sure that Vah Shir race are indifferent to all race so unless someone did soemthing bad they should be able to do any Vah Shir quests. All Iksar should be fine but I need to check next time I log on i can send my pocket buyer (Iksar monk) to check out Shar Vahl.

I know my iksar necro can run around as he likes in Shar Vahl, havent checked if faction is high enough to do quests tough. That would be a racial punishment and would maybe call for a change. But otherwise id say its ok to have questing in a quest.... Ifu can run of to baz and buy all the stuff u need for task and put em in the forge u can just as well put the trophy on a merchent in pok.

Altough i must say it sucked to suddenly remembering destrying all shadowscream stuff a while back and redo the quest agian, hehe.

Id rather see a change in the highend GoD drops. switching that out for a nodrop, decently rare drop from a lvl 50sh mob may be an idea. Im still not able to find the LQ crag skin for the tailor task, and thats for journeyman task. a 200 tailor may not be lvl 70 raiding toon able to solo Vxed/Tipt+. Getting a group to go there would be really hard these days.

For Emandes, u will not have to do 1000 combines if u skill up faster. I got the journeyman petter trophy at 216 skill. Making 550 combines got me to 240sh skill, and trophy gained bout 60%. when i hit 250 the trophy was at 75%, and from there it was fast. every combie gave several % on trophy, think i use 8 or 9 combines for the last 25%. When it became a masters trophy at 250+ it went back to the slow leveling. So the trophys are very fast adjusting to your skill, wich seems like a great idea to me, as your trophy wont be outdated for your skill, as well as u wont be able to have a 15% mod evolved at 200 skill. (Edit: At 200 skill in JC i made the journeyman test for trophy. Then started working towords 250. The exact same click that got me 250 also evolved trophy up. Guess either it evolves only on a skillup, or they managed to balance the evolve rate pretty good)

Maybe some of those GoD drops is a bit to hard to get, but guess it is Everquest.... Overall great work

well i put my smithing trophy on hold and worked on several other ones first, not because of shadowscream (which is just time consuming) but because of the shimmering stuff =p i was able to find some in the bazaar and a bar on a mule somewhere so that's not so bad after all.

that and acrylia. windstones are not too bad, but essence of wind... LOL =)

at least it isn't from a locked zone somewhere! just a matter of persistence and time to find it. i just have bad luck =) par for the course for me and the RNG.

Smithing Task accomplished - now to do the rest while scrounging materials to evolve my Hammer fully

/salute Ngreth, this looks to be the most wide-ranging challenge for tradeskillers of all skill levels and ability yet. Your work is very much appreciated.

I've gotten essence of wind off the chaotic spirits in the "Spirited Spirit" task in efp. 1 or 2 both times we've done it.

Hmm, just checked the database and that's not listed. I'll have to submit an update later (I'm not sure what the name of the instanced zone is).

Ok. I was the original poster, but I accept this as a reasonable decision.

I know I can find the quest information in bits and pieces on this site and elsewhere. Has anyone written a good overall summary of it anywhere? I was out of the game when Luclin was introduced and, for whatever reason, have rarely gone into any of the Luclin zones, so I am very unfamiliar with the entire expansion.

Edit: Never mind. I found the write up on the main page and at alla's and I'm am following through it ok so far. I will post specific questions if I have any.

Finished the Freshman trophy on my mage last night. I put the ticket in a forge and combined it to evolve my trophy, anticipating burning thru the stockpiled supplies I had already prepared to skill up and xp my trophy.

Unfortunately, 2 minutes later Maelin crashed and suffered a small rollback. The rollback took me back to the point when I had my ticket in the forge for the combine. (guildy of mine also lost a Tacvi loot on the short rollback) It reset on the server crash, making my ticket poof like a fart in the wind. So now I have a 1/7 trophy with 188 skill and sit around waiting on a petition.

Update: I will have to loudly confess that I over-reacted on the Shadowscream thing. I have spent perhaps 2 and a half hours total on this and have everything but the humming orbs (which I would have needed for combines anyway). And I should note that I had never set foot in Shar Vahl before today.

I did 'shortcut' a bit; I had collected 5 bloodling carapaces when I decided to check the bazaar. First thing I noticed was 11 of them on sale for 10 pp each, but at the same time I noted that someone was selling the Bloodling Plate Mail itself for 100pp, so I bought it. Step completed.

I also bought the swirling shadows from a vendor. I would think that most of the people who are / were bothered by the Shadowscream requirement were probably those who chose to shell out the plat to skill up on MCS, so I don't think the cost of the components should be a reason for complaint.

I had to do a couple of the shield repairs twice, and I'm not sure exactly why. It's possible someone else was doing the quest at the same time, though neither of the two people in Shar Vahl when I first encountered the problem responded to an /ooc on the subject.

I now wish I had gone ahead and done this when I was skilling up. I don't think I would have done all of my skilling on Shadowscream, but it would have provided a nice alternative to the nightmares of MCS sub-combines occasionally. I'm at 256 at the moment so I'll probably take this opportunity to get to 262 on the Shadowscream.

                    Good decision Ngreth. Complaint withdrawn.

Edit to add: Oh - and I had been under the impression that there was some no-rent component to making shadowscream. Am I thinking of some other quest, or am I missing something in the recipe?

Swirling Shadows used to be no rent. And after destroying my vah shir anvil and hammer first when I hit 240 and again when I hit 268, I weep at questing it a third time.

The old smithing guide under learn a skill does make reference to shadowscream stuff being no rent- that info is outdated. There is nothing that is no rent anymore. Just lots of no drop stuff for you to farm. You could take the cheap way and buy swirling shadow from bazaar intead of farming them.

In Twilight Sea tghere is one small island full of shadow mobs, clearing the whole island yeilds me 10-15 swirling shadows and the repop isn't that bad but a while though. You might want to check nearby vendors for any swirling shadow your first time there in case someone dumped them.

I am an Iksar Shaman, and have no problems in the kitty city. I have not made any Shadowscream yet, but have done all the quests to get everything to make it.

And besides, we Iksar's are use to having to work to get items from some cities. * grins *

Ditto on my Iksar, as I posted in the other thread. There don't appear to be any inherent problems with them.

I'm glad I wasn't losing my mind on the no-rent thing on Shadowscream, but even happier that they changed that.

It used to be the case (and may still be) that some of the guards would double-spawn on top of one another. In this instance, you could get the shield from one of them to repair, but when you went back to hand it in, you gave it to the other...accomplishing nothing. Not sure if something similar is what happened to you, or not.

On those guards, you could occasionally witness one of them move out of sync with the other, showing two guards to be there instead of one. Also, the shield wouldn't disappear from the model when they gave it to you (as the other still had his.)

I don't see a general problem with requiring ShadowScream as part of the trophy quests. It is easy enough to get everything needed quickly & cheaply.

However, if you kill the wrong mobs you can blow your Shar Vahl faction which would be very difficult to get back. These trophys should not be too easy, but I don't think they should require you to fix faction either. For this reason I think ShadowScream should be replaced.

On the other hand, making the hammer and anvil droppable would solve this.
