Aid Grimel Quest

I did Smithing, Baking, Fletching, Pottery and Tailoring all at 220. I didn't fail the Baking, Fletching or Pottery and failed the Tailoring twice(got it third time) and got Smithing first time, so it's doable easily(Brewing and JC were so trivial to 250 and I was already a 250 Brewer anyways so didn't try those lower). Tailoring is about the only one of those I'd recommend getting higher, the saps are hell to collect. I've not seen anyone fail the fletching portion yet(my guild has about 15 of these earrings, most of the tradeskillers having done the quest twice). The Tailoring portion is far and away the hardest one that seems to just pummel people if they fail(guild enchanter went 1/15 or so on tailoring with 245 skill).

Had a free minute so I thought I would drool over the quest while lamenting the expense of the tradeskills and the need for flags I probably won't ever see... and drops I couldn't hope to collect...

When a thought occured to me... I had seen one of the component earrings for sale in bazaar (for way more plat than I had)

Am I not reading this right? Can someone BUY earring 5 (if you find someone selling it) and then only need Baking, Fletching, Sol Ro and Rallos Zek flags to get earring 7 ??

If so I think I will save my pennies...

you can not buy it... every earring is nodrop... you can buy some of the components to make the items, but not the items themselves... you still need the flags though as well

Is there any chance to MQ in the 2nd stage of the quest (2nd earring) .. that in case one have the smithing skill and both players have brewing skilll + flags ... wondering if the NPC will accepet the portable drink (have smithing and brewing skill + flags needed ) and the other side handing in the Portable Brew Barrel ( have brewing skill + flags needed).. cause if so that will safe ppl time working on smithing wish is totally pain to gain ... more info on this part would be very helpfull

I did the first earring before the platter was figured out. I was very fortunate to be able to use a geerlok and got smithing up from like 198 or something cant remember to 228. I have a 15% pair of gloves from VT. I feel for the others that have to do it the hard way now. But, as far as tailoring part.....I attempted my first one at 217 with geerlok and failed but got a skill up. I attempted it again at 218 with geerlok and was successful. Then after the platter was discovered I got baking to 250 because its so easy and cheap really. Well I still had 218 tailoring and went to turn in my hope stone for the final Signet and was laughed at for my weaknesses. I had to go get 2 skill ups in tailoring to finish it off. I did the quest again with all skills maxxed at 250 except the dubious tailoring skill. My skill is currently at 233 and will most likely always be there Again I failed on the first attempt of tailoring and succeeded on the 2nd attempt. So, in long YES you can have a somewhat successful time running through this quest with skills at 220. I don't know about anyone else but I seem to have a better success rate when grouped with someone. Perhaps its just coincidence but its a consistent coincidence. /shrug Go figure.

Some clarification please..

I know now that skill modifiers are ignored when making the minimum skill check. Are they also ignored while making the combine? For example, is a 235 skill with a geerlock a 246 effective skill or is it still only 235 for that combine?

Well, as some suggested would happen earlier, the rewards are now starting to look weak compared to dropped ears...

Actually, just compare the final earring to the pulsing emerald hoop, and reflect that this drops off the 5 easy stage 1 names in PoTime that respawn every 4 hours... Those in my guild who were thinking of skilling up to do the quest aren't going to now, as there's no point.

The quest earring is a nice reward if all you do in the elementals is exp and farm tradeskill supplies. But it's woefully inadequate for anyone in a raid guild (and how many non-raiding people get to the elementals anyway?) As I've said before, upping the effect to conservation of xegony is needed to bring it into line.

Umm... if you routinely raid the Plane of Time, the top-end zone in the entire game, shouldn't you expect the best of the best of the best stuff to drop there?

Yes, I would like the rewards from the Aide Gimmel quest to also be the best of the best, but who is really being cheated here? No one. If you want the reward from Aide Gimmel's quest, do it. If you'd rather get something as a drop, do that. Heck do both. It's your $12/month, play how you like.

Some people will say that "raiding is easy, you shouldn't get the best for that!" And others will say, "Tradeskills are easy, you shouldn't get the best for that!"

Catering to either crowd will just get people to complain that they were cheated. Doing what they have now, with the top-end zone delivering top-end rewards, and tradeskills delivering similar (even if not equal) gear is a pretty good compromise.

One was is to kiss lots of ass in order to stow away on flag raids. Perhaps offer your services in case one of your servers uber guilds does not have a GM tailor, fletcher, etc.

I have a few friends in very strong guilds and every so often I am able to raid with them. It's not much, but hopefully I'll be able to get all the flags someday.

Unfortunately elemental planes access isn't a free ticket into plane of time. Especially on a more crowded server. On my server there is one guild who just got into Time (first rathe kill with in the last week or so) and another 4 guilds in the elemental planes. Needless to say the gearing up in the elemental planes with elemental armor and other drops takes a fair bit longer with this level of competition. Do we plan to be in time eventually, sure. Is it gonna be a while, probably.

Also I don't know about your loot system but for me my earring has cost me nothing in my guilds loot system. That leaves me open to upgrading my other slots that I can't do on my own and still gives me an earring equal or better than any earring I could of gotten with my guild. With only 1 elemental bracer and no boots so far I wasn't ft capped and didn't have that level of MP item until I got the earring which made it very nice for me.

Anyone has experience wether saps will drop more often off the yellow/red spiders in the second field rather than the light blue/blue ones in the first field?

This quest reqires more than the flags. It requires an intense amount of farming, and the bow string really requires a raid to aquire. This quest is aimed and tuned for the ubers. Don't make up excuses as to how its not. It is, and they will be getting time items within 6 months of getting this at absolutely the most.

Seems almost impossbile to get obsidianwood sap killed like 200 spiders already and havent seen a single sap, was soloing at GY =\
Where u guys got it? also Never seen it drop in raids past 1st castle from big spiders. any info would be good . thx
