  • What Would You Like to See Next in Pottery

Well, I'll admit, I've been disappointed that a series of pottery recipes haven't turned up for GoD yet. It's possible they are out there undiscovered, or maybe even have been discovered and just not shared with this community. Given our lack of any indication of such in GoD, it seems like it's been since the release of PoP that we've had the introduction of a major line of pottery items to which a sizeable portion of the potter population has access.

I was just sitting around pondering what might be interesting for a new line of pottery items. I think it would be nice to have a new set of items that would be accessible to more than those reaching the high-end of a difficult expansion. Any thoughts?

I don't think it would be reasonable to expect a line of focus effects above the IV items; such items, even if they were introduced, would necessarily include hard to get components.

How about more spell-imbued items? The Faith/Spirit/Soulstone line has become a staple of potter vendors, and the Crucible Item of Escape was an interesting idea (I think the advent of AA evacs has made it less popular). What do you think of each class getting an idol with a class defining spell in it? For example:

    Urn of the Nine
    Slot: Primary Secondary
Effect: Blessing of the Nine (Cast Time: 30.0)
    Required level of 65
    Wt: 0.1 Size: Small
    Class: DRU
    Race: All

And of course, one of the components for the combine would be the spell, itself. I think it is best to make the required level match up with the spell level. However, there could be a series of Urns for the various spells of descending levels. Enchanters could have Urn of Quellious, Urn of Koadic, etc.

That's just an idea. The fact that the mana cost is being eliminated would have to be balanced by the cast time. And perhaps there could be a significant recast time (although I guess to do this, they would have to change the name of the spell; as I understand it, they couldn't put a recast time just on the item - it would be attached to the spell).

Feel free to throw out ideas. I'm hoping we can contribute to the future of our craft by getting an interesting discussion going that might give a spark of an idea to the tradeskill team

    Thanks,

    Zep

    Another idea

Had another idea after that --

There seems to be some interest on the part of SoE to provide some overlap of effects - in that people should be able to get effects from various sources. So far this has not extended to AA's... but what if it did?

    Stone Totem of the Wood
    Slot: Primary Secondary
Effect: Spirit of the Wood (1) (Cast Time 1.0)
    Required Level of 61
    Wt: 0.1 Size: Small
    Class: DRU
    Race: All

Spirit of the Wood (1) - Casts Spirit of the Wood as per the first level of the AA ability. Recast time of 22 minutes.

This might take too much away from AAs, but I'm not so sure. Doing away with an item that you have to keep somewhere to click is often enough of an incentive. You could include AA's like Dire Charm, WTD, etc.

I've not really thought out the ramifications of doing something like this; just wanted to toss out the concept and play with it. The value of these items might make us want to make the components so rare as to be unavailable to the majority of potters, so maybe this idea doesn't meet the goal...

      Yet another!

I'm sorry to keep replying to myself I'm trying to keep the ideas separate rather than edit the original post into one big, unreadable post.

Okay, it seems to me we might kill two birds with one stone. Tribute Masters can be difficult to get to; I'm not sure how much they are actually being used, but my percpetion is that they aren't seeing much use.

One possible way to help this matter, and give potters something new, yet not overpowering, would be to create a line of items similar to the Faith/Spirit/Soulstones, but that would take you directly to your Tribute Master. For example:

      Waystone of Allegiance to Kelethin
      Slot: Primary Secondary
Effect: Tribute to Kelethin (Cast Time 30.0)
      Wt: 0.1 Size: Small
      Class: All
      Race: ELF

Effect: Teleports caster to Tribute Master in Kelethin.

Of course, it might be easier just to build upon the "Prayer to..." line of spells on the Spirit/Faith/Soulstone line of items, and just spread them to other classes, rather than create a whole new line of spells just for this. And creating a line of spells that teleported directly into the home city would decrease the viability of the Spirit/Faith/Soulstone as marketable products, if not make them virtually useless. So maybe building on the "Prayer to..." line is better; but a direct port to the Tribute Master would significantly increase their ease of use.

There was a time when I would have said giving a transport spell to non-casting classes would be overpowering, but self-transport is a pretty common thing now. I'm not sure giving every class a "gate" spell to their home city is all that unbalancing at this point in the game...

I've not had to use it, but my understanding is there is also a tribute master somewhere for those who no longer are in good standing with their home city -- perhaps WK? If so, maybe the solution to the problem is to only make one stone for ALL ALL that teleports only to this tribute master. This way, you retain the uniqueness of the Spirit/Faith/Soulstone line, and still increase the effectiveness of the Tribute Masters. The problem, of course, is that you need a way back. Perhaps coupling this with some kind of static book teleport (like a book to PoK) would help.

hehe, port to tribute master, nice. needs to have a return trip on it ) or they could just put a tribute master in PoK already.

This has been a pet peeve for a while - very few recipes have been added after PoP expansion - Black Marble Mortar, Advanced Poison Vial, Artisan's Seal, the Abysmal Sea training recipes, and the Ceramic Bola Weight. Pottery saw no new recipes that we know about in either LoY or LDoN expansions. So YES it needs new recipes and accesible ones at that and it would be great if glass-making got added in under pottery (pottery and glass are both in the domain of ceramic materials)

A few things that might be nice (I submitted a bunch of these within a story context along the lines of Brodder's diaries a while back, maybe it is time to resend it):
low level augmentations (think glass adornments)
limited charge items that cast alliance/benevolence line of spells (think little gifts to become friends for a short time)
maybe some one shot vials with useful but not overpowering effects
and I always thought we needed some magic mirrors that could do things like bind sight, telescope/glimpse, or even give a tracking bonus.

and um, ceramic armor would be kind of fun too

I like the augments idea It would be nice to see some player-made ones. Even if they were slot-restricted to limit their power.

You know what would be interesting? Class specific augments that made clicky-items! Sort of combine the Urn idea (post #1 above) with the augment idea. So maybe:

            Ceramic Inlay of Eagles
            AUGMENTATION
            Type: 3
            Slot: Feet
            Effect: Flight of Eagles
            Wt: 0.0 Size: Tiny
            Required Level of 62
            Class: DRU
            Race: All

The spell could again be a component in the recipe. And you could make the TYPE vary by ingredient. It would relatively easy to get the item to make the Slot 3 component (since Slot 3's are at a premium, these items are "less valuable" due to their lack of versatitily). Whereas, if you could get a really rare comopnent for the recipe, you could make it a Slot 7 augment. This might require adding too many items to the database; it might be better just to stick to Slot 3, but it's an idea.

              A More Outlandish Idea

Froni's post about glass-making reminded me of somthing else. I have an idea that I think is more outlandish, simply because I think the coding required would be more significant; but what the heck, we're only brainstorming

The reason I think it's more complex is because it would require the coding in of a second bind point -- we could name it your "call point."

My original thought was to share it with JC, though the idea of a glass item would work, too. The idea would be that you would have an item that sets your call point:

              Glass Bauble of Calling
Effect: Call of the Ancients (Cast Time: 5.0)
              Charges: 1
              Wt: 0.1 Size: Tiny
              Class: ALL
              Race: ALL

Call of the Ancients: Sets caster's Call Point at current location.

Then you would have another item that ported you to your call point, e.g.:

              Porcelain Totem of Calling
              Slot: Primary Secondary
Effect: Teleport of the Ancients (Cast Time: 30.0)
              Wt: 0.1 Size: Small
              Class: All
              Race: All
              Required Level: 51

Teleport of the Ancients: Teleports caster to Call Point.

Again, this seems least feasible to me, but maybe the coding for it would be simpler than I think.

You might ask how is this different from a Gate Totem? Well, for one, you would make the glass bauble the only means of setting the call point. Depending on how difficult you made it to make the glass baubles, you could regulate the ease of setting a call point. And there would be no "call binders" in every city to set the call point. People would have to replenish their supply of glass baubles to reset the call point.

Putting the higher level spell or AA effects on items would be too overpowering, I think. And SOE will probably never go for a second bind point. But keep brainstorming

I like the idea of player crafted augmentations. I’d love to have the ability to craft items with (worn) effects (or augmentations that could add (worn) effects), such as See invis, Enduring Breath…

Make the recipes need components that are rare but NOT restricted to elemental planes. Ex: for See invis item you would need Phase Spider Eyes. For EB item you would need Siren’s Gills…etc

What about specific NPC ports? The augment would be fashioned using specific ingredients, and a unique NPC given item. The augment would then be bound to a potted "idol" and then would be a all/all 30 second port to that NPC's general vicinity. SOmething easily reachable by walking, but this would be more of a convenience item.

                      For example:

Idol sketch + purified mana + enchanted clay + celestial essence + water + bar of velium = Unfired Temporal Idol
                      (No Drop, Lore)
                      Pottery, Triv. 335

Blue Diamond Powder + Celestial Essence + Vial of Velium Vapors = Temporal Glaze
                      (Dropable, Lore)
                      Brewing, Triv. 188

Unfired Temporal Idol + HQ Firing Sheet + Temporal Glaze = Temporal Idol
                      ALL/ALL, Min level 35, Rec Level 65
                      Ammo
                      Slot 1 - Type 3
                      (Droppable, Not Lore)
                      Triv., 42

Unbound Temporal Fragment (NPC gifted, possible a small PoK quest) + Emblem of Bob the Mushroom (where Bob the Mushroom is the NPC in a zone that can be ported to. This is given to the PC via a small quest, possibly an errand) ((Combine in the birdbath to recieve)) = Temporal Fragment of Bob the Mushroom
                      Augment
                      Type 3
                      Ammo only
Effect: Port to Bob the Mushroom
Cast time: 30 seconds + [(recommended level - actual level) x 1.0 sec]

Temporal Idol + augmented with Temporal Fragment of Bob the Mushroom would be a 30 sec cast to where the hell ever Bob the Mushroom is located for a level 65 character. A level 60 character would have a cast time of 35 seconds. A level 35 character would have a cast time of 1 minute.

The unfired idol is lore, and spendy, so it cannot be a skillup route.
The glaze is brewed, to spread the love a little, but a reasonable trivial, so as to be doable by a potter.
The finished unaugmented idol is low trivial, but non-lore, so its very marketable.
The augment is Lore, Nodrop, so it cannot be MQ'd.
The augmented idol is, of course, Lore and No drop.

I'd like to see a continuation of the PoP Ceramics line. Take two of the rare clays from GoD, two of the rare blood distillates, and some other miscellaneous ingredients, and get...

                        Poison Resist 10
                        ATTACK 15

Or use two mountain wheat flours in place of the distillates, and get....

                        Muramite Totem of Growth
                        Ranged Slot
                        AC 10
                        STA 10 CHA 5 AGI 10
                        Hit Points 65 Endurance 45 Mana 20
                        Disease Resist 10
Regeneration 5 (anticipating lowered demand for regen with the changes on Test)

Or use two of the rare sludge distillates in place of the flour, and get....

                        Muramite Totem of Companionship
                        Ranged Slot
                        INT 10 AGI 5 STA 5 WIS 5
                        Hit Points 65 Endurance 20 Mana 45
                        Magic Resist 10
Effect: Summoner's Gift (a 100/10/0 type pet focus working on all levels of pets, for reference the magician post-50 foci are 100/10/0 foci).

Have the Totems be level restricted the same as the PoP ones were, required level 46 to use. Basically, I was hoping to kill two birds with one stone and give uses to some of the refining quest items that, as yet, had no use while also creating totems with foci that hadn't been done in PoP, like melee-centric foci or a pet focus.

I like Zephaus' idea concerning spell effect augs or items. Now I would add required levels as well as the class restriction to prevent twinking. I think if the spells were restricted to certain levels as well as classes it wouldn't be a horribly thing to put in. It would only save a small amount of time and mana. To be honest something like say SoW doesn't cost me a lot of mana, I can regen that mana in the time it takes me to replace the spell with what I usually have up. The convenience of having a clickie for it would be nice though.

I'd like to see an additional, alternate, path to some high end Pottery (or any tradeskill) items. Given my playstyle, I'd offer this:

                            1) Pick some new uber item(s), only available to this route, or an alternate path to existing items.

                            2) Make it take an absolutely insane, completely unreasonable amount of time with almost no risk. Make it hurt if you choose this path, that's the point.

There are those of us that prefer not to group and don't want to let our eqlife hang by a thread while we're trying to solo some mob.

Don't make it easy; I don't even want that, but give us an alternative route.

Nairn, do you mean something like Certain PoK NPC will give you one Solidified Magma (used in the Ceramic Incense Burner of Ro) if you her 20 vials of each of the 5 mephit bloods? Or 2000 tainted planar essences? Or something insane like that?

                              That could be interesting.
                              --------------------------------------------------------

I agree with Koru, the spells should be limited to the appropriate classes and levels. I didn't put one on the FoE aug above (I've edited it to include one), because I assumed most equipment with Type 3 slots are pretty level restricted anyways; but you're right, it would probably be better to put a level restriction on the augment itself.

                              --------------------------------------------------------

I think Delores has a good idea about creating a complimentary melee line of ceramic items. These haven't been already put in another tradeskill that I've just overlooked, have they?

                              --------------------------------------------------------

I definitely think Mav's concept is interesting. I like using existing rare drops to fill in the items; make it more time-consuming than zone-restrictive in getting the needed components. One thing to consider is that those augments are already available for LDON points; whereas clicky spells are generally not avaiable for points. Still, I think the overlap could be good.

Iannyen's idea of ports to various NPC's would definitely be a way for them to add some new interaction into the game. This could work nicely with the Tribute Master idea; simply make the tribute master the granting npc. It could also be used on an npc at each of the wayfarer camps to make getting to an LDON camp easier.

Great ideas! Thanks for all your input so far. It's good to see there are so many creative potters out there
