I can't believe no one else gets them in the field of bone! There is a little underground spot full of spiderlings.

Newbie armor quest items have been added to those spiderlings as well.

It's kind of sad... last night, a friend wanted my druid to make him a Blessed Fishing Rod. She didn't have any Dragon Eggs, Branches of Planar Oak, or Silk Cords in her bank. Guess which item took the longest time to obtain? Yes, the six spiderling silks for the silk cord!

A "Let's Make Non-Foraging Class Tradeskillers Even More Unhappy" suggestion:

You can forage spiderling silk during Mistmoore (Butcherblock) LDoN adventures. SoE should add spiderling silk to the forage tables in all zones with spiderlings!

Last time (and only time) I went there a couple weeks back, I cleared the area twice. First time I got 0 silks, second time 2. At what I could only guess is at least a 20 minute respawn, this camp is virtually dead to spiderling silk farming.

Like someone mentioned earlier, IF you can farm rockhopper hides, shadeling silk is very easy to get. I found out a trick relatively recently. If you go to Shar Val and go down below where the newbie mobs are, the mobs are set to auto spawn (or drop) randomly around after death. The mob that drops the silk are the worms....so just kill everything you see and you are bound to get worms/lots of silks.

That's always been my experience too. When I first found those little spiderling dens, I thought it would be a spiderling silk gold mine ... was sadly dissappointed

There's only that one recipe where you can replace spiderling silk threads with shadeling: LQ Rockhopper & (shadeling) silk thread. For everything else, shadeling simply isn't an option. Though mass leather padding farming is a common qualm, it is far from the only need for spiderling silk.

One easy example are Collapsable Bearskin Potion bags which make an alternative to gold ribbons skillup route. It requires silk cord, which can only be made from spiderling silk - there is no equivalent recipe for the bags (or trivial point) using shadeling silk (or threads or cord).

I see your point Duntor. But really, how many folded bearskin pouches will you make in a career. Compare that to the number of leather paddings needed to get through Fine Plate.

LQ Rockhopper pelts can be harvested faster than any old world quality pelt (that I am aware of), and the silks can be harvested quickly as well. So for leather padding (which is the bulk of what ling silk is used for) rockhpper is the way to go.

I agree that spiderling silk drops are pathetic though. I used to be a regular in most of the old school haunts listed in the thread. However, when I did my fine plate I was 16 - 25th level, so the ones in the Brownie camp in LFay were safe from me.

If you're farming from scratch for leather paddings, yes, the luclin recipes are better. But most of the paddings I make are from vendor mined pelts, of which I see many more cat/wolf/bear than I do rockhopper. Though lately I've given up on making the paddings and just generally sell the pelts.

                          **** SOE nerfs

My favorite places for spiderling silks have all been nerfed. My favorite used to be Feerot, now it sucks. My second favorite used to be field of bone, now it is nerfed. My third favorite was Nek forest, now it is nerfed. Please bring back a zone that has good spiderling silk drop rates.

Please don't miss-use / over use the word nerf.

SoE changed drops in a lot of spiderling areas when they added the newbie armour quests. This was (IMHO) a good additional (free) feature for the game.

Now the fact that this (may have) messed up spiderling silk drop rates is (almost certainly) an accident. The fact that SoE do not seem to have looked at the drop rates since or addressed a problem that effects many tradeskillers is very frustrating and definatly something to complain about. It is not however a nerf.

If someone at SoE had sat down and thought "These TSers are getting far too many ("uber") spiderling silks far too easy, I will stop them dropping so fast" then that would have been a nerf. I seriously doubt that that is what happened.

So please do ask SoE to investigate current drop rates of spiderling silk and look into increasing them, but if you start to shout "Nerf" at every change intentional or not then SoE are liable to a) think you are a troll and b) ignore you. I definatly do not want them to ignore the low drop rates of Spiderling silk.

Again, not an option for all the old world pelts, but I thought I'd expand on the best way to get shadeling silk to go with rockhopper hides. Also good for swirling shadows if you're not high enough to go to Twilight Seas.

Go to shadeweavers thicket. Slaughter all the skeletal hunters and lesser shades you can find wandering the newbie area (druid/ranger track makes this a snap). This is to clear the PHs and reset them all to their spawn point. Takes about 5 or 10 minutes to 'prime the pump'.

Next, head over to the wall near the paladul zone (it's in the corner of the zone, basically straight out to the other wall as you leave the PoK portal). Then kill every skeletal hunter and lesser shade that spawns. There are easily 30 or 40 spawn points. Lesser shades will drop shadeling silk (common) and swirling shadows (rare). The hunters are PHs for more shades. So just keep all the skeles you see cleared and you'll have several stacks of the silk in no time. Note, a few minutes after spawning, the skeles will head out to wander the newbie area, so if you let too many wander off, you'll need to reprime the pump again.

I usually do this with my ranger as it's just more efficient to farm this way, but if newbies show up, I buff them and do something else so I don't steal their experience. One level 53 ranger has a hard time keeping all the spawn points cleared as the repop time is just a few minutes.

I've also done it to farm components and get experience when I start a baby alt, I just don't get tons of goodies that way. Lesser shades range from 3 - 7 and hunters from 5 - 8.

Wish I had the secret on the old world spiderlings. Like others, I have a hard time finding them when trying to stock up on blessed fishing poles for our guild. So where exactly is this secret cave with all the spiderlings in Field of Bone? Is it safe for non evils (ie far from the nasty guards)?
