Nektulos Forest has by far the best spiderling silk drop rate since the newb armor quests have been added imho. Many kills drop 2-3 silks a piece. Just have to watch out for the Darkies if you're a good guy

Remember /feedback is your friend. Just because the devs sometimes read and post here doesn't mean they read everything and doesn't mean it'll get remembered or seen by the right people.

        Don't say I didn;t warn you

Every once in a while the economists are right:

        http://mboards.eqtraders.com/eq/show...piderling+Silk

On E'ci the price of Shadeling Silk is just about as high as Spiderling Silk (and just about as rare in the bazaar) for the very reason that they are substitutes.

Oh, and the price has risen to about 8pp or so, with exceptions of course, and the price of leather padding is consistently 45pp or higher.

          Spiderling silks

IIRC ..back int the old days when I was hunting for spiderling silks, I would clean out the newbie area in EC...the spiderlings and other yard trash was good for my alts to level with and provided me with a lot of the silks that I needed..still need for smithing.

I heard from others that the spiderlings in Paineel Forest also dropped their silks rather plentifully.

YYMV...good luck hunting the illusive silks..

I currently need Spiderling Silks, not for leather padding (which doesn't always sell, nor do I need it for the smithing I am doing at this time) but to make silk cord for multiple members of my family who are tailoring folded bags which require it. Shade Silk Thread and Cord, though useful for other purposes, just won't do for me.

I have been farming Spiderling Silks long enough to remember when I sold leather paddings 200 at a time for 2pp each.

They're *not* dropping at the rate they used to, not even taking the newbie armor quest additions to the (whatever you call the local spiderlings)'s loot table into account. In the Feerrott, for instance, one used to get a lot of junk and a lot of the desired silks, together. Now, one still gets the junk and very few Spiderling Silks.

Once in a while I let my Bazaar employee put some up for sale, and then she does indeed ask 15pp each for them... not because I expect anyone to pay such an outrageous price (though, once or twice, someone has), but because I have such trouble getting them in what I'd call 'quantity' even using best practices (a Teir'Dal Wizardess PBAoE'ing the little scrabblers in big bunches-- you can't get much more efficient than that, especially when she can alternate Nektulos and the Field of Bone with very little time between) that I'd cry if we let them go for less than that. I'd rather keep them than have 14pp each, or less.

There are still tons of spiderling silks dropping in Nektulos forest. Even with the n00b armor junk, I get lots of them with 2-3 silks.

I'm guessing that the main reason for the dearth of them in the bazaar is that there are very few true newbies hunting them any more. You used to see a couple of dozen people in the newbie zones, slaughtering everything in sight. Nowadays, I go into Nektulos or West Freeport, and there are maybe 5-6 people there. I went through Everfrost n00b area the other day, and there was one guy with about a dozen mobs on him just killing them left and right and a gazillion corpses laying around that he wasn't even bothering to loot. Obviously somebody massively overbuffed and getting power leveled. Why should he bother looting something as trivial as spiderling silks?

I always vendor stalk as well. Checking the vendors near the zone lines to n00b zones will get a few here and there from a real new boot who just started.

I vendor check. And I'm not going to say I'm so noble as to not buy the spiderling silks but I usually do at least try to find the newbie doing the selling and inform them of the real price. Just seems so wrong for these guys to get a couple copper for something we know is worth much more.

Something else you don't see too much of anymore is the mid levels running around auctioning 'wanted to buy silks and pelts' in the newbie zones. That gave newbies a heads up on what was desirable and also helped keep the bazaar stocked with the silks.

just harvest the zombie skins and sell them in the bazaar to poison makers
In case you have not gotten the memo, this is not a good way to level pottery anymore /grumble. There is an odd recipe discovered since GoD that allows you to substitute "Crow's Special Brew" for an old world pelt. this is VENDOR bought.

My main source of plat from July 2002 to Oct 2003 was leather padding until they nerfed the drop rate for newbie armor quests. I farmed in EC, NRO and EF while leveling into the teens and for a short while in Steamfont until the drop rate there was ruined. When my ranger was old enough to hang out in the Feerrott, I could collect 20 stacks of silk in about 3 hours though I heard that some AOE classes could collect faster than that. That all stopped last fall, it is now too painful to endure anymore. I made the rounds to all the old areas just to confirm that the drop rate was reduced from its former level. I tried a couple new areas like Nek Forest but the rumors were only rumors, if lings did drop multiple silks, there weren't enough of them to sustain constant farming. Shadeling silk while farming shadows is the only thing I have found to drop frequently though the zone can be cleared pretty fast. I can't imaging trying to finish fine plate in this era, though a newbie can now make 100 plat at level 3, something that took me 10 levels to collect 3 years ago.

BTW, this isn't as bad as what has happened to HQ lion skin. I haven't seen a single HQ lion skin (used to make fleeting quivers) in 3 months of bazaar searches. While never plentiful, I used to keep a stack in the bank when selling the quivers for 1200pp each whereas I last one I bought for 2000pp was used to replace my own quiver which someone offered 10k for.
