This post has been updated from various comments to this thread taken into account; thank you again for your help on this. Fish rolls have now been reinstated as the fastest and cheapest way to 135. I've rearranged it to include a section on PoP baking, and shifted the "Halas Meat Pie" avenue to the end as it's not really a common route. I've also taken the "max success route" and switched it from "all vendor bought" (may as well do fishrolls if you want to buy everything!) and included LoY recipes as they have better stats than most of the lower level recipes.

<FONT SIZE="+2">So you want to be a baker?</FONT><P>
The "simplest" and funnest route to becoming a baker is simply to keep an eye out for anything that looks bakeable and find a way to cook it. However, a lot of people seem to be asking how "best" to get baking up fast and are willing to throw plat at the problem. Ask 20 people and you'll get 20 different responses as to the "best" path, but these are some of the more popular routes with a focus on buyable components.
There is no benefit (in terms of skill ups) to doing recipes close to your skill level, but it DOES mean you will have a lot more goodies to nibble and pass around. It's a very personal decision, but I've tried to outline some of the more common routes to getting baking up.
<FONT SIZE="+2">Getting to 191</FONT>
<FONT SIZE="+1">Jump Ahead</FONT>
I previously recommended filleting meat to get ahead; however with the price changes this is no longer an economic option. Back to fishrolls.
The cheapest (and I think fastest) route to get to 191:

<LI>Purchase fresh fish and batwings (see the http://www.eqtraders.com/location/baking.htmTrade Supplies</A> for all locations; personally I would use Plane of Knowledge to avoid faction issues and have batwings, fresh fish and an oven all in the same zone) and combine them in a spit or oven to make fishrolls to skill level 135.
<LI>Buy a ton of cheese from Jagged Pine (as an example, you'll need 40 stacks of cheese to run from 135 skill to 189 with 221 wisdom) and a non-stick frying pan (smithed). Note there are two cheese vendors in Jagged Pine (human and gnoll), so you can buy whatever your alignment. To my knowledge, the gnolls will sell to everyone (including Iksars) except possibly High Elves...as long as you do not kill them in JP.
Head over to a butcher (Thurgadin or Shadow Haven).
<LI>Combine Bear or Lion meat and bread and cheese and Non Stick frying pan (smithed item, sketch sold in Jagged Pine) in an oven or spit until trivial 191.

<FONT SIZE="+1">Maximising Successes</FONT>
These recipes are all based on items that are easy to get, the only additional utensil you will need is a mixing bowl, which does take a top slot. All recipes are combined in an oven or spit. This is slower and less cost-effective but means you can keep your alts and mules fed for life.
You can obviously skip any of these steps and jump to the next if you can't be bothered stocking up on various ingredients.
Both Thurgadin and Shadowhaven have butchers and ovens if you are buying meat.

<LI>Pickle velious meats (most common are frost/storm giant meat, wurm, wyvern, but if you want to use dragon meat be my guest) with a jug of oyster sauce and seaweed vinegar until trivial 75 (88 for the giant meat)

Really don't want to make fish rolls? Okay, head to the Gulf of Gunthak and do some fishing. Some interesting recipes there:

A typical route would be to hunt brownies and do the chocolate recipes or head to Jagged Pine and experiment with different types of pasta or stick to the pattymelts. If you are hunting in Luclin, centi drops can be combined into steak or stew until 188. Get a dairy spoon and you can make creamy fennel sauce to 156 which will be useful later for your Halas Pies (see below) . I'm loathe to recommend too much from here as it really depends on where you are hunting, your best bet is to take a look at http://www.eqtraders.com/secrets/recipes_baking.htmthe EQTraders recipes</A> and make a decision as to how you want to continue to be a productive baker from there.
<FONT SIZE="+2">Breaking 200</FONT><P>
<FONT SIZE="+1">Now what can I make?</FONT>
Breaking trivial 200 in baking has become a lot easier with recent patches, but it still necessitates a lot of time. Misty Thicket Picnics and Halas Meat Pies (see below) have components that are pretty trivial to get, but it's a lot of combines. If you are trying to avoid setting up a mule for baking one dish alone, you may want to look at these alternatives.
The key issue is whether it's easier for you to get drops off mobs or to forage. If you can forage, then you'll want to look at Ohabah Truffles, Cinna-Sticks, or vegetable casseroles.
In my experience the mushrooms are the easiest to get in bulk (coerce foragers or even roll your own) -- look for Luclin zones with a low forage table (Echo Caverns is my favourite) to collect them quickly.

The Jagged Pine casseroles still involves farming for eggs (Basilisks, found in Lavastorm and Basilisk Genitors found in Jagged Pine) but trivial higher (250) and depending on your level you may be able to exp while you are farming. Cheese is sold in Jagged Pine at two different vendors depending on your faction (human and gnoll vendor). The casserole dish is a pottered item, the sketch is only sold in Jagged Pine.

If you have access to the Plane of Power zones, then you may want to look at foraging or fishing for easy skill ups past 191. Note that you don't need to use the Tanaan oven for these if you have a collapsible spit, so you can spend a lovely sunny afternoon fishing and combining.

<LI>You can forage safely at the zone in to Plane of Justice (Tier 1, as long as you have PoP and are level 46 or over, you can enter) which will get you cockroaches, breadcrumbs (see fishing option below) and justice fruit.
<LI>Combine four cockroaches with a cup of sugar (bought in Plane of Knowledge) in a spit until skill level 202
<LI>Storm Salmon (Plane of Storms), Giant Halibut and Giant Snapper (Plane of water) can be combined with a jug of sauces in a tanaan oven to 208.
<LI>Breaded varieties of these fish will take you to 222: combine the fish, breadcrumbs (the ones you foraged in PoJ), jug of sauce and garnish.
<LI>You're finally ready for Justice Fruit Pies: combine the foraged justice fruit, a clump of dough, frosting, 2 celestial essense and muffin tin in an oven or spit until trivial 250.

<FONT SIZE="+1">From 0 to 226 with Halas 10lb Meat Pie</FONT>
This route is specifically aimed at skilling up en route to making the famous Halas pies, although you'll need to do a <i>lot</i> of mammoth and wolf hunting to max out on it. Lion and Bear meat can both be bought at the butchers. This isn't the simplest of methods, but if your goal is simply to make Halas Pies, you may as well skill up on the pre-combines.
Additional items you will need to make or have made for you: a dairy spoon, a filleting knife, a mixing bowl and a pie tin.
This gets a bit silly because you need the cream to make the creamy sauce, and the creamy sauce trivials <i>under</i> the cream, so you'll need to swap back and forth between the recipes if you want to stay under the trivial. On the other hand, fennel is expensive! So the cheaper route is to not make the sauce until cream is trivial.
Be sure to look at the different types of egg as the dough yield varies tremendously (this is true for noodles too).
