    Attention Alchemists!

We've made some dramatic changes to the Alchemy Tradeskill which include both the recipes as well as the products. We've taken some time to evaluate the Alchemy skill as a whole and make some very substantial changes in per-combine pricing, sellback pricing, skill-up paths, and product desirability -- All of which will prove to be beneficial for patrons of the skill.

Now, without getting too deep into the changes made, and without spoiling some of the things you'll see in the expansion… We would like to take a moment here to briefly mention the more intrusive changes in the hopes that you will be able to more adequately prepare yourselves for them.

First, we have modified nearly every alchemical recipe that currently exists in game, and when these changes get pushed out to the Live servers, many of the old recipes will no longer work. This means you may find a number of the ingredients you have been carefully stockpiling for months are no longer valid. This also means that it is recommended that you use them up before the next update (which is currently scheduled for the 21st.)

Second, we have modified nearly every vendor purchased alchemical herb that currently exists in game, as well as adding a host of new herbs that we use in the new recipes. There are no cases where we increased the value of an herb, so stockpiling vendor purchased herbs now in the hopes of gaining money is a bit of a futile attempt. We do not recommend it.

Finally, we do not ordinarily announce changes of this nature, however… Given the amount of time and money that some alchemists have spent gathering materials, we would hate to see them suddenly become useless overnight. Please make sure that you use your time and items wisely and as soon as you can.

      Ngreth,

Thank you, glad you were kind/decent to give those of us with a shaman the chance to clear out hordes of ingredients before they became useless.

HUGE!!! That's great about all the advance warning! Thanks guys . I just happened to go through my stockpile the other day and currently am sitting at 241 Alchm unmodded so I'm going to be careful about only buying what I need for skill ups til the coming patch that changes all this.

Ngreth, are quests involving alchemy-created items going to be changed as well to reflect the new recipes? The paladin 1.5 needs a Potion of Breathless Mist, and I'm sure there are other quests/epics which need alch products. But I shouldn't need to grab one of these now and save it for 11 levels to be on the safe side, should I?

(I don't mean to imply that you or anyone else will screw up and forget to change this stuff -- I just tend to be paranoid about epics.)

The Vampiric and Wrackbane potions are still in there, so you won't need to worry about those either, though they likely have new recipes. Smile

As far as the possibility of there being potions that simply won't exist anymore... There are a few potions that have been completely removed, primarily because they seemed particularly useless. So far, we've gotten no complaints of missing potions on the Beta Server, which is a good sign. Smile

Fixed this today, so it will now take the new potion when the expansion is patched in. It will not change until then

Sorry if this looks a mess but a newbie to the forums .

The 2 potions that are going, Elixir of Divine Endurance and Potion of Mystical Apptitude. You say that these will stay if we already have them, but there wont be a recipe for them any more. Regarding the "will stay" part, will they still work as they were meant to?

As I read it, what this means is that after the PoR patch, there will no longer be a means of creating those two potions. But if you have made some beforehand, you will be able to keep what you have and they will still work as they have. So, if you think you'll ever want some, better stock up on them now.

Our intent is that they will continue to work. There will just not be a way to make them anymore.

The Shaman boards have been a bit more lively than here in discussion of this change if you want to see more on it. Maddoc has also piped in a bunch there.

Though I am not an alchemist, our guild has several, and they did not know about the changes. We were able to tell them, and now they are taking care of making what they can and awaiting the new changes, before they go stockpiling again. Thanks for posting this well enough in advance that we can let others know who may not come to sites like this and find out things like these changes, otherwise, I think our guild would have heard some frustrated cries of furor from them.......
