In cleaning out my screenshots I came across this little gem. I had received a tell from this person just saying "hi", always an ominous sign. I did the /who that you see here and then had this follow up from him:

That's right, begging for buffs was such a habit that he did it when he didn't need them.

All in the space of about 10 seconds:

Chanter_01 shouts "KEI for donations, send tell"
Chanter_02 shouts "Improving your mind (KEI) by the Nexus stone"
Chanter_03 shouts "Accepting donations near the PoT portal for C3"
    Dorkface_01 shouts "Any KEI?"

"I had received a tell from this person just saying "hi""

I too, as a cleric, fear the random, dont-know-this-person "Hi"

yup, the random 'hi' is generally dreaded...as are the buff requests that invariably follow them (unless you're in the bazaar, which is usually a whole other story)
about the only time i even remotely enjoy such is when i'm playing my shadowknight and people beg for buffs. and get annoyed that all they recieve is resist cold
well, there was one time we had a full party of dark elves in ot ages ago and a 30ish necromancer started begging us all for spirit of wolf and started shrieking when we wouldn't cast it. *sigh*

I also get that sinking feeling in my stomach when I'm running through a city and see this
            Stranger02 says 'Hail'
            Stranger02 says 'Hail'
            Stranger02 says 'Hail'
            Stranger02 says 'Hail'
            Stranger02 says 'Hail'
            Stranger02 says 'Hail'

Because you know then moment you stop it will come... "can u spare any pp stuff or buffs?"

Once I didn't have this happen, the guy doing the hailing was actually looking for someone to give his old stuff to. I almost fell out of my chair and choked on my own tongue in surprise. It took me so long to recover from the shock I think he thought I was a newbie by the time I could respond to him.

I had a screenshot from my cleric, but lost it when I reformatted that machine a few weeks ago.

I two box a cleric and a paladin, and get some awfully strange requests.

One day we were hunting in Droga, I think. I set my afk as follows:
/afk I am currently hunting with my family, and as such am not available for resurrections, blessings, or anything other than that which I'm already doing.
I look over and see her chat box filled with pages upon pages of "xxxidiot tells you, Come to xxx zone and buff me".

              I ignored him.

I dread those "hi" tells also. I usually try to just ignore them, but there are some bleep bleeps out there that will start yelling at you for not responding to their tells /sigh. Now, if I'm tradeskilling or doing something in PoK, I always turn on AFK. They seem to harrass me less when it's on, perhaps because it shows when they do "/who should i pester".

I guess I'm one of those "hi" people... just how I start a conversation, and lets me check for an AFK flag.

Fortunately, I generally offer a decent amount of money and offer to come to you if I'm asking for buff(s) you aren't currently advertising. In fact, the last enchanter to C5 me got 325pp... I felt bad for the enchanter slaving over a loom, especially since I was getting the buff to do tailoring combines and head back to Cobalt Scar...

Beggars stink though, I prefer to tell them they are ignore and tell them exactly what I think about beggars all in one tell, NOT put them on ignore, and then take screenshots of their retorts for laughs later.

Another fun thing to do: just copycat their buff requests, or type them back to them backwords: "zlp zlp zlp sffub em evig sffub tnaw i"

Maybe I'm just sadistic... wait... I'm a tradeskiller.

If its not someone I know, I generally just ignore them.

Today though I had to chuckle when a 29 necro asked me (a shaman) if I had any bone chips I could spare. My chuckle turned to a sigh of resignation though when I told her she should go spend an hour or so in Kurns and farm herself a few stacks...she had not only never been there, but had never heard of it.

But yes, I see it all the time.

And, as a reminder, Rogues cannot SOW, Bind, heal, buff, dam shield, rez, kitty crack, port, translocate..

The best? I've been asked for a KEI. Now correct me if I'm wrong, but only ENC can cast KEI, right? and wood elves can't be ENC, right?

Granted, ENC get Illusion: Wood Elf, but, there is no Illusion: Rog..

Were you by any chance wearing mostly chain/plate armor and quite clearly dual wielding two nasty pointy things? Because in that case it's as easy to make that mistake as asking (pre WE crown quest) the wood elf with the huge frigging axe for a rez. Sadly I was too much of a meanie to rez that person. Warrior mana don't come cheap y'know.

It seems sometimes like the first thing a lot of people do is ask if there's [insert buff here] on entering PoK. Personally I wait for a minute or so, that's usually enough for the buff store spam to make it clear what's up and what's not. After that I feel free to start my 'wah wah, take my plat' spiel.

I wonder how many of the people here won't go out and hit the hunt without KEI, shaman buffs, whatever.

Anyone made it to 65 without buying a buff?

I know when I get bored my shaman can make a killing sitting in PoK and slapping out the focus/boar and HoS/stamina for people.
