In general i will maintain my opinion until convinced otherwise...

I have several friends that play EQ as well and after a long discussion the other night requarding the progression server....

Im now convinced that the DoN armor will have minor impact...

If i remember correctly, back in the old days, alot of the blue diamond armor was used to "fill in the blanks" for raiders that had not finished acquireing their class armor or other gear from ToV. Basicaly it would be used the same from Kunark onwards.

Yes, the journyman armor is significantly better then the old temple of sol ro class quest armors, perhaps sony could upgrade those and add in class armor quests for those class's that do not have any (ie druids / monks / beastlords / bezerkers) so that those armor items /quests are compareable almost to expert armor. Perhaps they could upgrade the pohate/fear armor to be just barely above the expert armor.

Will this have a impact on the game? yes, will it be a major impact? prolly not. After the discussion my friends and i still belive that the armor will maintain its "fill in the blank" roll and will still allow part time gamers to get decent armor to keep up with their friends.

The biggest difference by far over this server vs way back in the old days is...
KNOWLEDGE, many many more folks are aware of tradeskills now vs then, and many many more are aware of places like EQ traders. Tradeskillers are no longer the odd ball rarity that they used to be prior to planes of power. This alone is the biggest difference, and this alone will mean that there will be a significant higher number of players that will take up the art of tradeskills. This could be good and it could be bad, only time will tell.

Druids actually got an armor set equivalent to the Ro quests in Jaggedpine. Monks (and BL) of course, got Wu's armor which is similar in power, though one sided toward agility.

Correct, but the original argument was how to keep BD cultural out until the release of Luclin. My suggestion shows how some of it would become available with Kunark, and even more with Velious when velium bricks started showing up.

Not really. It just means that Klok Acet would suddenly find himself getting assassinated rather often. He's alone where he stands and he's not that tough. The only reason he doesn't get murdered a lot now is that there's no reason to do him in. If he was the sole source for extractors, that would change quickly.

I look forward to the opening day of Velious when everyone wants to do Shawls and Ringwars again. It should be good fun. I also want to be on the team that takes down the Sleeper.

The devs stated the mechanism they are using to implement the server is simply to trick the account that you have not registered the expansions that are not unlocked. As such, a player that talks to the npc can NOT get the task, because he doesn't have DoN registered. This is just like a person that doesn't have PoR attempting to get the trophy task from freeport.

I'm still not 100 percent sure that that is true (even though it makes sense). The quest page for DoN cultural on this site says that you do not need DoN to do some of the quests. I'm not sure whether they just meant that you don't need DoN zones, or whether they specifically meant that you don't need to have purchased the expansion. Does anyone know for sure?

None of the cultural tradeskill quests require DoN, in the sense that you can get and attempt the task even if you don't have the expansion. However, some of the tasks (notably the GM augment tasks) require kills in DoN zones, so if you don't have the expansion, you obviously can't complete those tasks.

The DoN armor quests are open to everyone and can be completed by a person with just the base game (or with the expansion that enabled his or her race, obviously).

Well, then that's a potential problem. Expert level armor can be made by some classes with all old world stuff, and expert level armor is significantly better than anything in the old world.

Master's level armor can be made by some classes with only Kunark available stuff, and master's level armor is significantly better than anything available in Kunark.

If they leave it in, I will make my choice of class entirely on my ability to
                  a) complete the quests
                  b) make experts armor in old world
                  c) make master's armor in Kunark

Interesting. That needs to be changed, to be the same as PoR trophy tasks and MM's in DoD. I'm surprised it went live like that.

You might be able to make master's armor in kunark, but no master's symbols until Luclin. Expert's symbols can be used though, and they are smithed with old world supplies, tailored with kunark.
Whether or not any of this stuff is better than what's available depends on what they do with Droga/Nurga/Veksar.

Smithing or Tailoring Will Be in High Demand

So do you think Smithing (Banded armor will be in demand) or Tailoring (for casters) will be the number ONE tradeskills, yielding the most profit?
I think Smithing will be number one due to Banded armor.

I think banded will do ok depending on what they do in regard to tutorial drops and newbie quest armors - they have stated that the tutorial will definitely stay in the game.

For plate classes, the Gloomiron available in the tutorial is about equal to banded in AC in some slots, better in some and worse in at least one. However, it also has stats, which banded does not. There are also banded neck, shoulders, belt and face, which are not available in the tutorial as far as I know.

Lastly, banded will work for chain classes, and it is better in AC than the equivalent tutorial chain items, though of course it also lacks the stats.

And.. people may (perhaps foolishly) not want to hang around the tutorial long enough to fill all their slots, which are mostly random drops, so banded may sell well as fill-ins.

If they leave celestial solvent in, I think one of the first things I would aim to be able to make would be Opal Encrusted Steins. I believe those would be hot sellers, as there is nothing else even close for Cha, and everyone needs Cha.

                            No Bird Baths

Bird Baths for attaching augments to armor arrived late in expansions..LDoN I think. Makes Expert/Master armor significantly less attractive (only nice AC).

The augmentation sealers (bird baths) can be found in several old-world zones like zones with LDoN camps and Lavastorm Mountains. Augments themselves were introduced as a feature of LDoN, but all later expansions featured augs to some extent. I don't know if the sealers are tied to LDoN, but personally, I doubt it.

Rashere stated today that the tutorial will not be in game on server start. Rather it will be implemented at a later date that is more in tune to when it came out with the appropriate expansion.

                                And the masses rejoice!
