I'm not sure I understand (and I am about to go through this with my mage, which is why I am asking. How is it cheaper? Doesn't the difference in price of the gems out weigh the cost of the gold bar, Gnomish Heat Source and an extra pure water? (Sapphire is 105P and Star Ruby is 68)

    Thanks!

Yes. Runic Parchment Solution costs approximately 25p less than Fine Runic Parchment. Do the math and add up ingredients if you want an exact price difference.

        re brewing path

I would suggest Faydwer Shaker to 188 instead of sharvahl essence, as all the parts can be purchased.

But it's easy to do shar vahl essence. There's mapped ground spawn loc somewhere that has like 30 of them. Do the run and by the time you get back to the start they would have repopped. A few trips and you may get enough to reach trival.

Quick note on Fletching skill-up path:

            269 - 282 Rough Shadewood Compound Bow
If you add a planing tool to the recipe, you get a Shaped Shadewood Compound Bow which sells for about 10pp more than the Rough version.

Not a big difference, but if you are making several hundred, worth throwin' in the tool.

Oh, then I still don't understand why Adept suggested changing to Fine Runic Parchment Solution.

Hey Adept, can you explain that?

              Thanks!

                Ah, got it!
                Cost:
                Star Ruby+Platinum Bar+Gold Bar=183.747pp
                Platinum Bar+Sapphire=209.998
                Difference is 26.251
                Buy back:
                Runic Parchment Solution = 142.857
Fine Runic Parchment Solution = 197.173
                Difference is 54.316

So if you plan to sell back your solutions, you come out ahead with Fine Runic.
Of course, I wouldn't recommend selling solutions back, since you will need to make (many) more as you skill up on spells (unless you use sunshard ore to get to 300). So I would suggest a third option:make a variety of the 243 trivials, so you can make a wider variety of spells with them as you shoot for 300.

For fishing, I would also recommend doing this quest to be able to summon a new fishing pole whenever yours breaks to avoid making trips to a vendor to replace your pole.

Also, for Tailoring, I prefer hunting greyhoppers in Marus Seru for Greyhopper Hide Boots to 95 as it avoids making a container for a little while.

On further thought, probably the cheapest path (right now) to 243 is to make Rough Paper Solutions and use those to make Rough Paper (actually any of the papers are cheap). The finished papers sell back for the same price as the solutions, so since the paper is cheap in the bazaar, you can get two combines for not much more than the price of one.

One thing that was mentioned with MCS, was that they will be reverting to 255 trivial when the new paths for cultural come out. So get working on those sickles now

Whats the source of this? My understanding is trivials wouldnt be messed with until a complete overhaul of smithing was done.

Not that I plan on making MCSs before or after any recipe changes . . .

You're exactly right, Roanne. Ngreth has said that when he revamps smithing, Sickles will be nerfed. (It won't be done standalone, as far as I know.) Also in line are the vendor-bought arrows to 300 fletching, when that tradeskill gets its revamp.

I don't think this cultural update counts as the revamp he meant, though. Not 100% sure about that.

Smithing is only getting a partial revamp, because it does not really need a full one. But there is a definite armor path, all the way to (or past) 400 coming with the cultural armor changes. So at that point I can fix the sickles to their original intent.

And no that is not an indication of a cap change, just preparedness for the possibility

Keep in mind, the last time they said they were going to make changes to the trivials on stuff, they said they'd put it put their plans, allow discussion, etc, etc...
Then on the very next patch... BAHMO... Tailoring got a surprise nerf (hard). Then they admitted the tailoring nerf slipped out by accident and it was not intended. Then they said they wouldn't fix it because fixing it would anger too many people.
So, there's always a chance that an accidental nerf can go live. And if it does, there's no way to go back. At least not without making a lot of people angry /shrug

Hmmm I seem to remember that particular nerf and the anger over it, wonder what the anger would have been if it had been reversed...Oh well, moot to wonder on it.
