The benefit to the AS freebie compared to CR is the ability to refine the raw materials. I would not call AS any easier to get around than CR. You simply have to take a little time to learn the layout for EITHER zone. Also, CR offers a larger supply of materials because it has more vendors. To me that is a plus and most of the tradeskill vendors are named better, imo. (Baker for baking, Potter for pottery, etc.)

It is an alternative to consider as CR is also easier to get to at lower levels than AS.

I like CR (and had to learn vendor locations) mainly because it is the only all-in-one zone for spell research and making AAAA's. Yes, the elevator sucks, though honestly the one time I had a lag spike and fell off the boat in Abysmal was probably more annoying than every time I fell off the elevator combined.
And just in terms of low level skill ups.. the CR quests are much, much faster than the the Abysmal quests (because you can cheat and skip ahead).

        AS vs CR

We are talking about the freebie tasks here, not TS in general.

CR may have more supplies, but with the freebie tasks, the NPC GIVES you the items you need... for free.

The AS tasks flag you to refine GoD raw materials and as far as I know, the CR ones do not.

So -- choose the "faster" skill ups with no benefit in CR... or do the AS skill ups for the GoD materials flag.

Another reason I have taken to playing on The combine server...no CR as of yet, we have heard rumors of these fantastic lands but put it down to too much down time in the local taverns....

And my earlier question was do you have to do the TS quests in abysmal sea in order to refine GoD materials, and if you do not do them then the only recourse left is to get the TS queat givers to refine them for you ...right?

Foraging path for Alchemy to 300

I would like to point out that Nodding Blue Lilies can be foraged in Dreadlands, providing an alternate foraging path to 300 for Alchemy.

Correct. You can just hand them the stuff and they will refine it themselves.

Unless you are planning to refine large quantities, you are better off letting the npcs refine them.
4-5 stacks (varies) to get 2 every time
~3 more stacks before you sometimes get a third (this is when you can start to make up your deficit)
20 stacks before you always get 3
So around 10 stacks before you break even with the NPC refine.
For many of the GoD refines you won't ever need to refine enough raw materials to make up the initial deficit of doing it yourself. Though it can be useful if you "skill up" using the easily acquired drops, in order to get a better return on the KT+ drops.

In Regarding CR or AS. All my tradeskillers live in CR now they have made it way to convient to TS there over any where else. All the l similar vendors are grouped together and that makes it incredilbly easy to TS in CR. The Elevators really do Suck and I'll be a happy TSer when the undiscovered ramps between the levels are finally uncovered. On my old system I would spend 10 minutes or more just trying to ride an elevator up to the 2nd level for anything. My new system does not lag at all in cr thankfully but still will be estactic when there is something other than the elev to get between levels in CR. I have a Researcher and a Shammy that almost never leave CR nad my main heads there I am doing any TSing on him.

                    This is just my 2cp.

Change in suggested 243 path for Spell Research

Suggested path is Runic Parchment Solution, I would propose that Fine Runic Parchment Solution is a better path to 243 cost and material wise.

Fletching alternate paths using the racial/diety combines trivial at 335. Therefore, if beginning around 200 as mentioned, the trophy will not advance for a while because of the 100 points above skill level rule.

I just raised an alt to 300 alchemy, and I went from 231 to 300 with Nodding Blue Lily recipes, trivial at 348. My trophy evolved to master when I was at 287 skill. Because of the extremely fast trophy exp gain when your skill is higher than its level, it levels within a few skillups of passing 250 to expert.

To do the freebies or not to do the freebies...

Most of the tradeskills have a really cheap and stacked set of combines to get your skill up to 60 or betters. What I've found is more convenient is to go and do those first. Then if you need to get yourself flagged for doing the GoD combines go back and do the freebies. The freebie quests require you to turn in 100 finished items, not do 100 attempts. At the low skill range, you're likely to have to do 160 attempts. And you have to run between the combiner and quest NPC after every 20 combines. If you can get your skill into the 60 to 70 range (or higher), then you're likely to only need to do 6 batches of combines per set to complete the quest.
