Does Tailoring need a major face-lift?

    hmmmm

I agree that tailoring needs an update, but not something to "make it easier", or to make it store bought to get to 188. What I'd like to see is a more structured tailoring skill.

We have swatches of various types, or hides.

    Threads

    curing agent

    Pattern

With a full set with all four things being applied, this would allow tailoring to become structured like jewelcrafting, while not being as easy as jewelcrafting.

An example that is perfect for what I am thinking is the Velious fur recipes. You have the base hide+thread+mana vial+pattern. But there COULD be a full set for silver/gold/platinum thread. There could be different items created by using a different mana vial as well for the same type of fur(Holgresh/Othmir/Velium Hound). This would expand the number of items made, as well as a more graded set of items. Silver thread with clear mana vials for othmir fur will be the cheapest in this example, go to gold thread with Othmir fur for a slight upgrade. Boost the mana vial type for a different item. This would open the way to a HUGE number of items we could create, with trivials that go up with the quality of what is produced. Obviously, we could expand this system to cover cloth items, raw silk, etc. Keep to the same structure, just make the items properly available.

Then, and this is really tradeskill-wide, make it so the price to sell to a vendor is at LEAST the cost of the components, with the vendor sell price on the same item HIGHER than it should be. So something that should cost around 100 plat for players to buy, 31 plat to make might sell to a vendor for 35 plat, and 300 plat to buy from the vendor. This would encourage players to buy from other players, but doesn't rip off those doing tradeskills. Also, on failed combines, in many cases we should be able to get one or more of the components back, not just the tools. Or at least something back that could be sold at a loss if you fail. Thread from a failed combine CAN be somewhat recovered with some effort. Perhaps re-used for small patches, or sold back to a vendor, but still something.

All vendor sell backs must be at a price lower than the cost due to the l33t bot d00ds who would exploit it to make 10000000's of plat to sell on those disreputable websites.

It would be nice if sell back prices were just a few plat under the cost though.

        No nerf

It is the fact that tailoring is difficult that gives it its value. I have a 246 tailor and a 250 smith that I am very proud of. I also have a 250 brewer, 250 baker, and 250 jeweler. These are nice, but nowhere near the effort or plat was put into them. Hell, my brewer hit 250 at lvl 1 in a full day of combining. All this was done before he got his first kill! The fact the smithing and tailoring are tougher discourages everyone and their brother from trying to GM them.. That's why you can actually recoup your money from these 2. Try making money with jewelcraft!

Tailoring rules now with the new LOY ribbons. I was able to go from 158 to 187 in under 2 hours with store bought stuff an foraged goodies. The time spent farming is something I never wanted to do now that my smithing is 240. I farmed alot of stuff in the early numbers of my smithing. I'm working on 1750. I'm a 250 Jeweler, 250 Brewer, 240 Smithing (Post Nerf didn't have any before they made it hell) 200 in everything else but tailoring. Now I can at least take a serious shot at getting tailoring to 250. It simply was made a lil more easy with those robes an a way to skill up without all that nasty acrylia farming.

I like it now when before I considered it as a dreaded task for the 8th shawl

Only thing i wish that tailoring had was some sort of 250 farmable "quest type" combine like shadow scream for smithing. ANd yes i know that flawless rockhopper hides will take me to 242 but atm the only place i know that drops them is DSp and that means myself lvl 40xp group and any other tailors are there in that one spot farming pelts i mean come on.... if not then up the forage table for yew leaves....... im willing to farm/forage but 4 hours of hunting that nets me 40 odd 250 triv skins or pelts and only 2 yewleaves at 200 forage is really really freakin annoying

I agree with a previos post

              More recipes.

There need to be far more recipes available for tailoring. Not store bought components though. I really like the previous poster's ideas of taking the existing recipes and giving them a break out. Like adding multiple stages of othmir fur armor. That would still require farming. Would still take just as many furs to skill up with. But you would see physical results more often. Nothing drives me quite as nuts as clicking that combine button and seeing, DNC, POOF.

If there were more staggered recipes, at least you would get a successful combine a little more often. Would give a bit of a feeling of progress.
