hmmmm
I agree that tailoring needs an update, but not something to "make it easier", or to make it store bought to get to 188. What I'd like to see is a more structured tailoring skill.
We have swatches of various types, or hides.

With a full set with all four things being applied, this would allow tailoring to become structured like jewelcrafting, while not being as easy as jewelcrafting.
An example that is perfect for what I am thinking is the Velious fur recipes. You have the base hide+thread+mana vial+pattern. But there COULD be a full set for silver/gold/platinum thread. There could be different items created by using a different mana vial as well for the same type of fur(Holgresh/Othmir/Velium Hound). This would expand the number of items made, as well as a more graded set of items. Silver thread with clear mana vials for othmir fur will be the cheapest in this example, go to gold thread with Othmir fur for a slight upgrade. Boost the mana vial type for a different item. This would open the way to a HUGE number of items we could create, with trivials that go up with the quality of what is produced. Obviously, we could expand this system to cover cloth items, raw silk, etc. Keep to the same structure, just make the items properly available.
Then, and this is really tradeskill-wide, make it so the price to sell to a vendor is at LEAST the cost of the components, with the vendor sell price on the same item HIGHER than it should be. So something that should cost around 100 plat for players to buy, 31 plat to make might sell to a vendor for 35 plat, and 300 plat to buy from the vendor. This would encourage players to buy from other players, but doesn't rip off those doing tradeskills. Also, on failed combines, in many cases we should be able to get one or more of the components back, not just the tools. Or at least something back that could be sold at a loss if you fail. Thread from a failed combine CAN be somewhat recovered with some effort. Perhaps re-used for small patches, or sold back to a vendor, but still something.
