Othmir caps have no pre-combines and only need to be farmed in one camp; the clear mana vials can usually be bought in Bazaar for 20pp or so. Othmir are also a decent cash camp, about 1000pp per hour, not including the value of the othmir furs.

While it's been a good 8 months since I dinged 250 Tailoring, everyone seems to be on the same track as me when I did them in the past. I'll add my 2coppers since everyone says kill the cutsey little Otters.
For those of you, like myself, who do not have the ability to Forage and are wondering what track to take for Tailoring, I suggest Rockhoppers until you reach 242 and Wyverns to 250. You can combine Superb and Flawless Rockhopper Hides until 188 and then strickly go for Flawless Rockhopper Hides. I started doing both with Tailoring at about 163 and went to 188 quite quickly. While farming Rockhoppers in DSP, I traded Superbs for Flawless after I reached 188, and most people were accommodating.
Get your smithing to around 75 or 80 when doing the Acrylia or you may lose more than you want when breaking down the bricks to the pieces you need even if it's trivial at under 50. I did about 95% of my Acrylia Farming in Tenebrous Mountains(TM) at one of the two Grimling Caves. I've seen people camp both caves if they were unoccupied but I could never keep spawns down that fast. As well as collecting a nice bit of Acrylia during the time I was in the caves, I made quite a bit of PP as well when I sold everything else that I managed to loot to the merchants in Katta. The drops may not be as good in TM as in Acrylia Caverns, but the mobs are only in their low 40's and are easily killed after level 50 if you learn a sequence to single pulling if you can't AE kill.
If you get tired of hunting Rockhoppers, then head to Cobalt Scar (CS) and kill Wyvern's for a while. The drops are not quick by any means, I don't know how someone could get a stack of 20 pelts in a couple of hours. I was lucky to get 10 in a 3 hour period. Once you are done, I suggest sticking around CS and fishing for your Cobalt Cod you will need for the combines.
I don't know how other people did their combines for skillups, but I usually did mine after I had collected at least around 200 Hides. Sometimes more. Especially when I was around 240. I was always worried that I would run into some of that back combine luck that other people described here and I was lucky to never have a bad run of combines. The worst I ever had was about 85 combines for 1 skillup. I'm not sure if the skillup tables have changed but I managed to skillup about once every 15 to 20 combines on average. And this was all done with a Wisdom of no better than 243 during any of my skillup runs.
Yes Tailoring is NOT easy and I farmed everything. But if you are looking for a track that doesn't seem too difficult then this is your method. Everyone talks about how expensive it is to do Tailoring but I guess I'm one of the few that actually made PP while doing it and I didn't sell a thing in the Bazaar.
Good luck on your way to GM Tailor
