To GM Tailoring, you need to do everything and anything. If you are a race that can do robes, do those. Have cultural? Do some of that. Collect every type of high level pelt, you will need them all. Wyvern, Otter, Drake, Hoppers, etc. You need a truckload of pelts.

I did Greyhopper Hide boots til 95 and tailored quivers to 115. From there I moved to Crystalline Silk (can't recall final triv on robes) and then Wu's to 158. From there, LoY gold ribbons to 167.

I attempted all of my shawl combines with 167 as my base skill and actually skilled up to 171 on the soft fur padding. I believe that I was very lucky and failed none of the tailoring combines on my shawls, though I was prepared to refarm components for the infamous 6th shawl. All tailoring combines were made with Geerlok, at least.

If you are going to do the Aid Grimel quest it just makes sense to skill up JC before doing tailoring. Make the ornate gem pieces needed for the solstice robes yourself. This is what I did.

yeah for AG i did solstice robes to finish off getting up to 220 then cheapest and most effecient thing imo, and what i did is make the fire silk tunic. I did quest twice and went 2/4 on tunics at 220+ geerlok

Right now, while few people is doing this, you can collect Hynid manes (and some blood meanwhile, if you farm Hynids yourself) to make whips. Muramite scales are not hard to get. Easyer than farm velium/wyverns or acrylia/rockhoppers.

LoY robes seem fantastic to me for skilling up. From something like 187 to 232 I've averaged a skill up per like 14 robes. For the few points I tried solstice robes, it took me more like 45 per skillup (probably due to the high trivial and low success rate). It was also massively cheaper and leads to a lot of tribute.

Failed 5 attempts at Aid Grimmel #5 at Tailoring 220. Sure glad I farmed the saps instead of buying. Worked on tailoring some more, going to attempt Aid Grimmel again soon...

hehe, the othmirs really hate me too. Did 60 combines last night, only netted 2 skillups, back to killing them! Really glad I got headshot!
Too chicken to try the robe at only 223 + geerlok though.

I finally got 240 last week, and seriously nothing beats the othmirs if you have an enchanter to make the vials.
I tried every reasonable alternative: velious leathers (high trivials on most items cuts your skillup rate almost in half, and the components are a pain to get); luclin tailoring (same pita requirement for rings/studs); solstice robes (just drove me crazy); GoD tailoring (not that bad really, mostly whips and bolas); and cultural tailoring (just need to pounce on the right runes/words/etc when they drop). Nothing came anywhere near othmirs for skilling up after 220.

I second the othmir recommendation. I could have spent my cash on solstice robes, but then I wouldn't have had enough plat to buy the nine obsidianwood saps at 22k each I needed to make the earring. Othmir caps have no pre-combines and only need to be farmed in one camp; the clear mana vials can usually be bought in Bazaar for 20pp or so. Othmir are also a decent cash camp, about 1000pp per hour, not including the value of the othmir furs.

                                Hoppers

I've chosen the hoppers as their ease of farming and the fact Othmirs are too cute to kill, but I rarely have competition farming the hides in DSP. There will be days where I log in in the tunnels and log out in the tunnels and never see a soul, lest someone needs a lucid shard. I've also noticed that Flawless have consistantly been one of the most common drops, over a couple weeks I have about as many HQ pelts as I do flawless. Superb however, have been fleeting.
