I skimmed through the guide pretty quickly, but it looks like you say gnomish cultural (clockwork) is smithed. Gnomish cultural armor is tinkered. So not only is it not a viable option for skill up, it's an impossible option. I love the guide. It definitely beats learning all of this stuff on your own or too late to take advantage of it.

First let me say - congrats on this wonderful smithing guide!
I have also been doing some cost calculation and noticed that on page 46 you list the Approximate cost per unit of an Ornate Gold Coif to be 49p 9g 6s 6c. This does not seem correct as I can easy acquire all of the items (storebougt ore) for around 32p 1s. With this in mind, the Loss, purchased ore calculation would be just over 12p per combine, not the 30p you mention. (My CHA is around 123).
Thus, you can get through 139-146 with a lot less lost plat if you choose to buy your ore.
Cost calculation Coif Pattern 4.199 pp, Gold Bar 10.5pp, 2 Rings (17.3pp), water 0.010pp = 32.009 pp
Ive found out a little hint when dealing with a stack of items and only wanting one. We all know that if you hold Ctrl youll grab one and if you hold Alt youll grab the who stack. But what I bet you didnt know is that if you hold Ctrl and while still holding Ctrl grab ahold of a Text Slider, like the one on your Main Chat Window. Hold Ctrl and grab the slider with your mouse and slid it up then back down. Now let go of the Ctrl button THEN releace the mouse button. In doing so you will "Lock" the Ctrl button. Now you wont need to hold down Ctrl all the time and it leaves you hand free to take a drink, pet the cat, hit your little brother ect. To "Unlock" the Ctrl button simply press it once. That will free up the button. This also works with the Alt button. Give it a try and free yourself from Carple Tunnel (sp?)
Hmmm, I'll try that -- I don't entirely understand it from your description, but I will play with it and see what I can do.
Again, thanks to everyone for their comments so far -- these will all go into the next revision.
Also, I'm writing a "Smithing for Tailors" subguide based on the full "Economical Smith" that will teach tailors only what they need to know to support THEIR particular habit.
I've already got my smith to 201. Was lucky enough to do that with Fine Steel back in the day, but to skill up past that, this is quite helpful. I knew the ultimate answer, IE Old dwarven cultural and Shadowscream to continue. My problem is access to a 49 enchanter. I know a few, but they're always busy. So, I'm leveling my smith so I can do hollowshade.
Great guide! Can't wait to see some others!

Actually what I use for ctrl is a bit simpler. 10 coins taped together for weight and placed on the ctrl key when I'm combining. I could not have survived metal bits or Wu's without it and it's a very simple yet effective solution. On bad RNG days it also gives me something heavy to throw at my little book of tradeskill lore for a satisfying *thunk*.
I would love to see you make guides like this for the other tradeskills. Anyway can't wait for the next version.

Correction:
The guide states that there are no Medium Quality ore vendors that are within reasonable distance of a forge. In North Freeport, there is a medium quality ore vendor within 30 feet of a forge.
I found where you misinterpreted this and I have clarified the sentence. I did not say there were no medium quality vendors within reasonable distance of a forge. What I said was this:
--------------------------------------
Original:
Blocks of medium quality ore are available in many places, including: Bazaar, Freeport, Kaladim, Katta Castellum, Neriak, Plane of Knowledge, Qeynos, Sanctus Seru, and Shadow Haven. It is also available in High Keep, Rathe Mountains, or Steamfont, but do not purchase it there. There is no forge in easy walking distance of any of these locations and blocks are exceptionally heavy.
--------------------------------------
Revised to:
Blocks of medium quality ore are available in many places, including: Bazaar, Freeport, Kaladim, Katta Castellum, Neriak, Plane of Knowledge, Qeynos, Sanctus Seru, and Shadow Haven.
Medium quality ore is also available in High Keep, Rathe Mountains, or Steamfont, but do not purchase it there because there are no forges within easy walking distance of these three vendors and the blocks are exceptionally heavy.
--------------------------------------
I did not say it was not within easy walking distance of ANY of the forges. I said that it was not within easy walking distance of the vendors in High Keep, Rathe Mountains, and Steamfont. I hope the revision listed will clarify the question.
I think, someone double check this, but i think there is a vendor in Gukta that sells MQ ore, and hes is within 50 feet of not one, but 2 forges. Someone double check that, I may just be going crazy
