That is truly a thing of beauty.

The only thing I noticed in a quick review was that I THINK the smith in Shar Vahl is Barkhem not Barkham.

Very nice guide! I just have a couple of things that I thought you might add. First, regarding the Fier'Dal Fletching kits - I took this method to skill up to begin Fine steel plate. You make a good point about binding if you are a druid but the place I recommend to bind is at the Mithril vendor inside of Felewithe. The reason for this is that you can use egress to get right next to the lift that will lead you to the cultural forge as soon as you exit Felewithe. Second is the farming of leather padding. I was fortunate to have a guild mate give me this bit of advice and it worked wonders! To farm for leather padding head to Marus Seru. It's off of the Netherbian lair zone (to the right once you come to the central pillar) and you will be hunting Greyhoppers here. They frequently drop Low Quality Rockhopper Hides - I got 4 stack in about 2 hours. Once you get what you need here head to Shadeweaver Thicket to collect shadeling silk from either the Xakra Silkworms or the Lesser Shades.

      Hope this helps!

        Correction

        Correction:
The guide states that there are no Medium Quality ore vendors that are within reasonable distance of a forge. In North Freeport, there is a medium quality ore vendor within 30 feet of a forge.

I have only glanced through your guide thus far, but I must say its very impressive looking. It’s also well timed. I just reached 177 smithing this morning. As I near 188 I’ve found myself wondering what to do next. What I will most likely do is work the other easy/cheap trade skills up a bit before I tackle the more difficult/expensive smithing combines. But I do plan to take smithing to at least 200 and by then I may have enough basic AA points spent on things like run three that I can save up points to take a second trade skill to 250. I’m very much looking forward to reading your guide and discovering some insights to post 188 smithing.

Thanks for all your hard work.

Where does it say that in the guide? I know that medium quality ore often IS in close proximity to forges, as this is certainly true in both the Bazaar and Neriak, where I did most of my fine plate forging. So if that was in the guide, then it is a true mistake. I can't imagine I wrote that on purpose.

It would be most helpful when, sending corrections, you included a page number where you found a problem.

One addition or correction... Morning dew Page 71 states:
It is foraged in Greater Faydark, which is a problem because no high elves can forage.

Please add Lesser Faydark to this, also I would add that Lesser is the prefered place to forage as there are less "rare" items to forage.

                Lesser "rare" forages
                Sylvan Berries
                Morning Dew

                Greater "rare" forages
                cinnamon Sticks
                Ripened Heart fruit
                Morning Dew

                  Awsome guide on smithing :!:

Note on the shadowscream armor. You have to buy the ore as well which isn't too bad at 1.5pp to make the rings. If you sell the finished item back to vendors, you pretty much break even or wind up ahead some.

                      Very nice guide!

Just a small grammatical mistake I noticed. On page 57, second to the last paragraph states, "You will eventually need two of these eventually". You only need one "eventually" in that sentence and can remove either one.

I just finished reading most of your guide and I’m even more impressed then at first glance. Very well done indeed. I skipped over cultural smithing since Vah Shir seem to lack that particular option. I found your explanation of Shadowscreem very helpful, as I’d heard of it many times but I’d never read an explanation of exactly how one went about smithing it.

At one point you talk about buying trader bags to fill your bank slots. I’d like to offer another option. There is a gnome vendor in PoK who sells deluxe toolboxes that have all the advantages of trader bags, except for using them as a vendor, plus two more. They are light enough in weight you can use them as carrying containers and they are tradable between characters which can really prove useful for those with more than one account. The little gnome gentleman is located in the building near the bank that has pottery wheels on either side of it.

And I found a couple of grammatical errors. The first is the same one Danthen found. But the error is on page 62 in the paragraph that begins, “Master Barkham…” I can understand the mistake in page numbers as the reader does not refresh the page number as you scroll down with the arrow button unless you first click on the page. The second mistake is on page 64 in the first line of the paragraph that begins, “you can do this alone and simply to two runs to the guards instead of just one.” I believe the word “to” should have been “do.”

As I said, a most impressive guide. I’m very much looking forward to seeing one on tailoring and any other trade skill you feel inclined to dissect and make easier for those new to the craft, as well as those of us not so new.

Yeah, I should have clarified, the mistake is on page 62 in acrobat reader because it counts the cover and index as pages.

                            Great Guide

This is one, if not the best, guide to Smithing I have seen to date.

As I am now in the process of raising my Smithing to make the shears I need for Tailoring I was looking for a guide just like this.

May I offer an addition similar, and just as limited, as the Feir' Dal Fletching kit. It would be the Vale Sewing kit. Requires A Needle Mold, A Thimble Mold, A Flask of Water and HQ metal bits. Yields a 10 Slot 4.0 wgt container useable by all. Trivial is 162. Downside you need available slots to make more than on at a time or drop them / give away as they are made.

I have been using this recipe as a Halfling Tradeskiller as I routinely come by FS Weapons when farming platinum in Rathe Mountains. I did take a long look at your Sell vs Convert comparison but never being to bothered by a few gp here or there I will sell it if I need the plat and convert it if I have the bank space. As these have to be made in Rivervale I find great joy in presenting newbies with a new 10 slot container each time I make one.

Wow. Excellent guide I learned a number of things.

A couple of updates on the four Grimy Owlbear camp in Paludal Caverns. I farmed 113 substances there a week ago. Drop rate is 25%. I kept records so this is not just a perception. The spawn time is 7 minutes and 52 seconds. With a one-hit Wildfire kill the instant an owlbear spawns, my total cycle time for one spawn of four owlbears was 8 minutes 2 seconds. The average farming rate is 7.5 substances per hour.

Farming the owlbears when they control the Southern Islands is much faster, although I kept no detailed data.

On page 67, there is a typo in the cost for single rubies. The stack cost looks right though.

One thing that should be mentioned for DE cultural smithing is the high level recipes all need enchanted adamantite (there is no imbued only option), which means you need the enchanter.
