Question... do you have to own SoF to get the 75 and 80 symbol quests? I can't afford it yet and the tradeskill quest guy in Kelethin does not offer either to me at level 75.

The 75 quest (Exalted) is kill 40 darkroot shaman + get 6 impressions (Direwind Cliffs), and kill 20 adult mammoth + get 4 impressions (Icefall Glacier).

The 80 quest (Sublime) is kill 40 reavers + get 6 impressions (Fortress Mechanotus, reached via the cannon in Dragonscale Hills), and kill 20 Foundry Workers + get 4 impressions (The Steam Factory... haven't been there yet).

Worked on exalted quest exclusively since server up. 40 Darkroot Shaman is a LOT of killing, and a lot of time. Going to bed with 9 still to do, can't stay awake longer

You have to be within 5 levels of the symbols level to see the task.

Was in Fortress Mechanotus last night. I saw 1 "a reaver" on tracking. Also, he was pathing around with 4 other mobs in a less than safe place in that zone.

Will be a long time to kill enough of those to get that many reavers.

I see now why Ngreth picked these... all those toes must be good eatin'.

Currently yes. I had to have it restricted to SoF in order to keep it from going live early.

I will be changing that though.

BUT. the drops for the 80 cultural are almost exclusive to SoF and the Quest is only in SoF.... so to do the 80 symbols you are going to have to get SoF anyway.

Ya - hadn't gone after the Darkroots before, so spent time finding them and getting set up to start some serious schwacking tonight. Looks like one mob in 4 is a shaman - so estimate 6+ hours to finish that part? (The muklti-pulls don't help either).

                      Darkroot Shaman are Hiding

OK, just finished a bit over 2 hours in Direwind working on the 75 aug quest in the mushroom caves. Grand total of 5 shaman. Seems like a one in 8 spawn or so - warriors and tenders share the same spawns.

I entered the darkroot caves just having dinged into 76, and am four blues into it. At this rate - 1.25 shammies per blue bub - I may ding 77 before I finish (i.e., a full level). Will see if I was just unlucky tonight or what.

                      Garshok

P.S. On a positive note, Rish and Gar both have 2 impressions after 6 shaman total (got one last night). While Zoph is still at zero impressions, it looks like getting the impressions won't be the long pole in the tent. Getting a bad streak on the RNG with impressions on this quest would have a very, very high suck factor.

6 hours is probably a reasonable estimate. I finished about an hour ago, and think I put in 8 - probably bad luck in there. The mammoths only took 1-2 hrs tops.

I've spent about 3 hours on 15 or so mammoths already - not helped by the wizard that was beam-kiting practically all the mammoths in the area. Looks like that 8 target limit is still ridiculously generous.

EDIT: Logged in again this morning just now, and he's still at it... level 78.

Gonna be WAY longer than 6 hours on Darkroot Shaman guys =)

Just wait til you try knocking out the lvl 80 aug task. 40 "a Reaver" hmmm, well I spent literally 12 hours there yesterday we got 5, and I am a Ranger and was constantly watching track. 20 "foundry worker" hmmmm, hope you in a big high raiding guild. Trash hits for up to 3k a lick and quads. Yes the trash does that. The mobs needed are deep in, our 18k (buffed) tank wasn't big enough to go see how hard they hit in the back. =)

The shaman aren't that hard with a full group, the biggest issue is dealing with the Vinelashers from my experience recently. I just took to rooting them and having the chanter AE stun them at camp with two casters AEing. Worked well with them having minimal Hps, but still we got splattered a couple times due to those stupid lil adds.

There are a few spots - Vinelord Molder room, for example - where you can set up and pull without having to deal with the vinelashers.

Only did Molder room last night as I had only half a group (that gave us 9 mobs to kill), but I believe that there are a couple of rooms where you can hunt without worrying about vinelashers., or can easily avoid them (such as around the quest named). Haven't seen anything that sees invis, so a full group could either roam the halls, dealing with the vinelashers as it sees them or potentially invis from large room to large room.
