I'd guess it's simply an extremely rare random drop from all higher level drakes.

I've found a grand total 4 through quite a lot of missions (been ally to Norrath's Keepers a while... and done some evil missions too for friends (didn't turn in those faction tokens)). I do remember specifically from The Creator in Thundercrest (which is a bugged mission, btw, you may or may not be able to win it), though I'm pretty sure I've gotten one from Stillmoon mission also, though not sure which. Groups usually all 70's.

I have gotten Metallic Drake Scales from A simple task in Thundercrest and also Contagion Mission in Thundercrest.

Very rare. 1 scale from each and have odne each 3x so far.

The "simple Task" Thundercrest mission seems the best of any I have tried, the second best seems to be "The Creator" but we have done a couple of runs that were bugged and we couldn't get a win so we stear clear of it now!

It may just be me but it seems that if you get one early on you will get a few if you stay in the mission for a while killing the drakes.

My strategy is to go for the win as quickly as possible (generally 30-45 mins) and if we have a scale drop will stay in the instance killing drakes as long as is possible.

Did this yesterday and had 7 metallic drake scales drop in a little under 5 hours, granted that is exceptional but we normally average 2 or 3. If no scales have dropped by the time we have fashioned the "Dark Lady" we go get another mission.

My other source is the bazaar, I have a buyer up during work and sleep time offering to buy them at 2.5k pp (seemed reasonable for the time it takes me to collect them) and this has netted me 1! However I guess people are not used to the buyer mode yet since while my buyer has been up I have bought over 20 from traders for no more than 400pp each!

I dont see many Drake here... We cleared the zone beside several puma. And Xp was not so good

I have broug 9 in bazaar, 7 for 5k5 each and 2 for 15k each... And only One on the nine was not purly destroyed by combine... With 310 skill... That why i want loot some...

Got two last night in a stillmoon mission can't recall the name was something about sickness. Think its also knowen as the cherry blossom mission.

On average I've been getting 1.5 Metallic Scales and 2 Purescale Ore per Thundercrest Mission. Have yet to see a Glossy Drake Hide from there though.

Yes, Thundercres Isle but what mission you do please ? I dont see many drake here... lot of different kind of mob, but not much drake.
And any tips on How you do mission ?

I got a few Metallic Drake Scales soloing the Drakes in The Acent, non-instance. Have made GM Chestx2, wrist, legs, glove of gowth so far. 1 fail in 5. At that time I was 226+15% Mastery2, Salvage3 with buffed 440str/dex.

We got 1 metallic drake scale (and 1 purescale ore) whilst doing the thundercrest instance where you have to loot 3 books and then kill 3 named mobs, unfortunately as my memory is so bad, I cant remember the name of the mission.
*edit - was a level 70 mission and I think we were all level 70*

I have seen scales and ore both in the Elusive Kirin mission in Stillmoon Temple. Sorry I dont know the exact name nor do I know the total drop number as a couple of us smiths have been just taking turns looting ore and scales. Scales are by far more rare as I have 6 or 7 ores in the bank now.

The Creator Mission on good side, This has eben best for me on getting Purescale ORe and Metalic Drake skales.

And as fa as the bug goes I noticed if the # Statues step off the gravel onto the pavement then you will get bugged. have to drop them either real slow that hard at end or VERY fast so they dont walk about on you.

so far only seen the metallic drake scales in the "Simple Task" though that's the one I did the most while suffering through the GM book portion. Killed over 400 drakes to get my 80 claws, saw 3 drop in that time.

The best source of metallic drake scales appears to be the nest instanced missions. I have done the first 3 of the seven available to me so far and obtained 13 drake scales from them.

The problem is of course that these missions require a solid group since the dificulty of the mobs is similar/slightly higher than RSS, on the plus side so is the exp at 5% to 6% aa per kill!
