  • OoW Research?

<Ngreth> You will be able to get any spell that you can buy in the original EQ, Plane of Knowledge, and Serpent Spine itself. Additionally you will be able to get any spell that you can make using spell research. The Serpent's Spine will add LDoN and OoW spells to spell research.
For real? Seems a bit early for OoW spells to be going in...

Not that my bank account is going to mind one bit.

I'd say it came from House of Commons Dev Chat Logs – August 23, 2006

Omens of War will be 5 expansions old when TSS comes out (Omens >> Dragons >> Depths >> Prophecy >> Serpent's)

Does that mean they'll no longer be NoTrade? Will the 69 and 70 runes be made NoTrade to match?

And if the runes for 69 and 70 are made tradeable, how about making the parchments for PoP spells tradeable too. The scrolls from them are tradeable. As it is, people now have to trust someone on an MQ to give them the spell they got.

I kinda wonder now what will happen if you turn in a rune for a spell that you already bought and scribed. Will it skip over or will it give you a duplicate that you then have to go and sell to someone else?

There could also be issues with spells like Placate. For clerics, it's a level 70 spell. But for enchanters, it's only a level 67. If OoW spells are done in a similar manner as PoP spells where the lower level are cheaper/easier to make, then you could have people making a level 67 spell that replaces what would normally require a glowing rune to get. The other option they have is to create two versions of the scroll. One for enchanters and one for clerics.

It took 3 years to research Kunark spells, 2 years to research Velious spells, 1.5 years to research Luclin spells, and 3 years to research PoP spells. So 3 years for LDoN and 2 years for OoW is about right. It just seems fast because the last gap to get new research was 2.5 years.

The way the OoW system currently works, it checks your inventory, bank, and spell book for spells, and if gives you the first one on the list you do not have. There were a few instances where new spells were added to the sequence in an early position, and people doing a rune turn in got that spell next regardless of how many they had turned in previously. If this doesn't change then it looks good for researchers.
As far as Placate goes, if you check Lucy, it is actually 2 separate (though identical) spells so a cleric could not scribe the enchanter spell.

As per the question above,I would expect to see a GoD style change to the omens spells, as in the 69/70 runes will still be no drop, but the spells would obviously need to be made tradable. Although I really see no reason for the taelosian geomancy stones to be no drop now, nor the greater/glowing runes if the spells are made tradable.

Personally the last thing I want OOW runes to become is a cash crop. They need to keep the spells from the runes no drop and recreate an alternate line that are the same spells, but droppable.

And by doing so, the researched version of the spells are the cash crop.

If you have all your 66 spells what happens if you turn in a rune? Do you get it back or do you get a spell? Since I doubt you get a spell, runes being turned in so someone can sell the spell is unlikely. Also you could only turn in runes and get spells for your class, unlike POP where anyone could turn a parch, spec, or rune into any class's spell giver and get a spell for that class. The way OOW rune turn ins work making the spells droppable would be a minimal impact as the runes are already droppable(exception being 69-70).

Personally, I've long awaited the time when 69-70 level spells were tradeable. I can't remember another time in EQ history where you couldn't get a whole level (5+ spells) because you were not in an uber guild. I welcome this change, as my RL will continue to keep me from joining an uber guild in the foreseeable future.
