  • Task 5 - Fletching

After taking a 325K DT tonight I'm trying to work out where I went wrong.

I made Celestial Essence Box at midnight
I made Vodka Box at 1 am
I made Juice of Quellious at 7am

Immediately after making the last box placed the 1st box in the middle, the 2nd box to the west and the last box to the east.

I took no death at this point, so I'm assuming I was right up until this point.

I checked the time again still 7am so I targeted and opened the west box, which was box 2.

At was at this point I got the DT.

I'm now trying to work out where I went wrong.

    Possible reasons for failing:-

    1. I think I may have been on the North side of the table when I opened the box, should I have been at the West?

    2. Could I have miss targeted the box and opened the 1st by mistake? I could not see a target ring round any of the boxes.

    3. The time ticked over to 8 am as I opened the box. I was so disappointed at failing I forgot to check the time I died.

Can any one see any flaw in my thoughts? Or see an obvious mistake that I've missed?

    Any help much appreciated.

    Time to farm boxes again.

    • Next time you do it, do it at noon and follow my walkthrough exactly from a few pages back, it works. Be sure to make a /time hotkey and click it every few seconds at 11AM so you have a good 3 minutes to do everything at 12 noon.

6AM and 9AM work as well for the center box.

        • Can the boxes for the fletching part be pre-looted? I came across one during a brownie slaughter but haven't had the chance to start up the tasks yet.

          • Yes, the gem-covered boxes can be prelooted.

Most of the other quest items can't be prelooted, but you can save them for extra combines if your first combine attempt fails.

            • Minor whine about Eron's Jewelry melee version, the Form of Defense III clicky casting time is 5.0 seconds, but Hanvar's Hoop from Anguish has the same effect with casting time of 4.0 seconds. So I'm still clicking Hanvar's Hoop even though I'd rather click Eron's. Any chance you could lower the casting time Ngreth?

                • Patch change to Counting Shadows

                  From today's patch notes:
The counting shadows step of the tradeskill task now requires that you make the arrows before you continue.
As luck would have it, I'm currently mid-quest on Counting Shadows, at the point where my next task is to "follow the directions in book"... (where I've been for most of last week due to horrible time getting the Loping gem covered box to drop....I'm at correct camp in Loping as far as i can tell, but have cleared that camp a dozen times with no gem box drop yet).

In any case, since my task was already started before patch, will there likely be any problems due to task steps changing for my active task? There are 5 more "???" steps after my current one...if the patch adds another step will people with task already active get that step or be using the older task steps? It is far far easier to get counting shadow pages it seems than the gem covered boxes, so if there is a chance that I may need to start task over, i'd rather do it now before using up my gem covered boxes.

                  • You can find the LP Gem Covered Box on orcs nameds. I went to a camp on the east side of the zone and killed orcs until a warlock named spawned, and he dropped the box along with a loot item.

There is a small orc camp on the east wall. It has some tents and "a sleeping Bloodmoon orc". This is the Bloodmoon Warlock camp and although its a rare spawn it will (almost 100%) drop the box. Otherwise, it's a very rare drop off any orc so /ooc and hope.

                      • In reality, you don't need to round up 3 separate boxes from 3 separate zones, although I did so for my first attempt (hihi dead druid!). The task doesn't track what you have looted and which box combines you've made, or in what order. The task merely reads: "Do what the book say, fool!"

For my second attempt, I killed brownie Timbleton, got the box, ran to Shade and made the combine. Returned to brownies, picked up another box, returned to Shade for another combine. Repeat for 3rd. You still need to follow book instructions, mkaing the box combines in the proper order and at the proper times of day. However, its not necessary to sit at that orc camp in Loping and kill placeholders endlessly hoping to see the Warlock show his ugly face.

It sounds like you are OK.

People were just skipping steps, and not making the arrow. The worst this should affect anyone is that they need to go back and make the arrow. It is not a new step, it is just requiring that the steps that are there are done in a certain order (the order I intended. and the order the steps are given... it just allowed "skipping" before which is now not allowed)

                          • For Kyros, or another EQTC mod,

What would be needed to get this quest into the quest sections on the main site? The information is all in here, but probably would need to be written up in a manner to fit the quest section.

There seem to be not a lot of quests for tradeskillers in the recent expansions that made it to there.

yes, it worked fine. The new steps were added to my existing step once I correctly placed and opened the shadow boxes.

I'm now almost done with the final steam factory quest (just need one more yellow and purple faycite....I haev a lot of those banked so its unfortunate that the new task has a "loot" reqirement for them that does not check existing inventory. On of the nice touches added for some TSS quests was that the "loot item" steps in new quests would automatically update as completed if you already had the required items.

Hopefully this week I'll have my shiny new Eron jewelry finished.

                              • If someone could collect all the info into one clear, comprehensive post and put it in the Database Updates forum, I can put it up on the site. Ideally, it should have both in-game text (including NPC speech and book text) and general commentary about what, where, and how to do things. I'll copy and reformat it for posting on the site.
