I guess I sometimes forget not everyone downloads the zone maps though.
They are vague in that they do not list kill mob_01 and get them. The reason is that they are zone wide drops. Just like the gem grade faycites of different colors in all the other zones in SoF that you have to get. The red/green from Fort Mech, the Blue from Mech Guardian, etc.

    • Great quest overall.

Very challenging and enjoyable. The only thing I would suggest is toning down, or even removing, the combine requirements for the brownie hair - There are tons of tightly packed mobs in that room, and it'll take most players a small raid to clear them before repops. Since there is already a pretty hefty kill requirement in the zone just collecting the pieces, it seems a bit excessive/out of character with the other task steps.

As for the reward - was the addition of 5ac to both final? Wondering if there is any chance this is getting another 5ac or 10ac to make it more viable for tanks.

Also, related to that, is there some reason the BiC aug was nerfed to no longer fit in slot 3? It seems there are NO augs with AC that still fit in the slot 3 (All the old LDoN's and BiC have had type 3 removed, with the possible exception of an aug called "Frosty Marble Sphere of Augmentation" which doesn't seem to come from anywhere).

While doing the task 'Stopping Production' we had lots of Faycite drops, like one every 4 mobs. So either it was luck, or you want to target that particular room.

Locs for the task are (+507, -268), (+678, +37), (+507, -35) according to Allakhazam (I didn't check). You do the task by clearing around boxes then spawning a named 3 times. The clearing dropped 4 or more of each of yellow and purple Faycite.

Of course it could be luck.

This is not directly related to me.

But it was because Merloc (and Team, but spearheaded by Merloc) has other plans for slot 3, and it was a rarely used slot, so it had minimal impact to remove it so that we could then use slot 3 like Merloc (and team) wanted.

          • Any trick to getting the "a slithering shades" to pop, been 3nights now camping many hours, only had two. They seem to depop after a pop to if you don't get to them fast, which seems rather stupid.
Guessing there is no ph just a random pop, which with my luck is going to take me another 3 days

            • Slithering shades have SoS invisibility, soon after they pop, they can only be seen with Skylight Sagacity or similar see-SoS spells.

If you have Mark NPC, you can mark them so you can target them again after they invis. If see-SoS isn't available, you can try AoE spells (Arc of Arrows worked well) to aggro them and make them drop invis.

              • Aye was using aoe mez, but then I had to train out. Went back in and it wasn't there no longer

                • As soon as the mez wears off they immediately go back to sos invis. Make sure you target one when you see it.

As a monk what I would do is clear out an area and move to someplace I figured might have one of the shades (pretty easy to figure out... any areas that have only roamers that go into it, any of the side rooms that have no mobs in them) and I would use echo while having myself targeted. Sometimes you might get hit with your own mez doing this, but you can still target the shade while mezzed. Once you have the shade targeted even if they go back to being sos you can still hit them with whatever you have to pull with...

To add to the fletching task.... Cackle is the worst npc spell ever... I now feel the pain of people who fought monks in pvp before their epics stopped having the spin stun effect... and bonk spell they do I also got a laugh from (although not sure what that one does).

Thanks for any help or hints!
Personal experience, any Steamwork can drop both Purple and Yellow grade faycite.

As for the shades, they were really annoying. I can only hope someday they offer a way to see invis2 to other classes other than very short term duration spells which are currently out there that are self only. Luckily though, shades seem to drop the part needed every time.

                    • From North entrance I found the best place is just to the left tunnel of the first square room. two can pop there, rangers can help or wizzies with eye.

                      • Like so many other nutcases, erhem, I mean diligent members of the player community, I am also on these quests. It is pretty awesome, nice to see tradeskill quests are not totally left out of the game

I do have some issue though. Mostly connected to the limitations of my quest journal

                        1. What I have an issue with is the loot requirements. The items are nodrop, why make it a requirement to loot them too??? For someone like me, who can not rally a group for hours with the main purpose of supplying my own needs, it means having to get the tasks as soon as one gets a group in the zone, and having to keep the task for weeks, until all is looted, combined and turned in.

I am the type who pretty much try to have my quest journal full. I never know, where I go to kill stuff, because I usually group where other people needs something done to get good groups at all. Well, adding all the tradeskill quests is really cramping my style, when the quest journal is limited to 19 quests - I really wish SOE would add 5 new slots for every expansion and made it possible to tag each with a sortable note, but that is off topic

If those loot requirements where removed, tradeskillers would have the same quest journal slots to work other adventure tasks on par with their groups while they farm the ingredients needed, then take the task, do the combines and do the turn ins.

Since it is nodrop items, it is a pretty moot point to make it a task requirement to loot them too. Ought to at least be changed to collect or something similar, so it can be picked up in the bank, and the task not taken until a person is ready to do the actual tradeskilling parts.

                        2. Requirement to do the tradeskills in a specific order. Some of the quests are easier than others due to class or current skill level in a specific trade. Yes, it is possible to work on all the quests at once, but it still means having a full quest book until able to finish one or more prior quests. Being a tradeskiller does not mean not being an adventurer, yet working on the tradeskill quest is detrimental working on other stuff ambitiously... at least in my case.

Other than that, and my abominal misfortune of having to petition this and that lost after server crashes, the quest rocks.
Currently I hope Eron's Threaded Web Pattern is something I get at step 9 in the tailoring quest -- almost done with the first 8 steps -- and not when obtaining the quest, otherwise I have lost that too in a crash, and have to do another petition, I am pretty sure CS is as tired of me as I am of them at this point :-/

btw, the hair combine in steam factory can be done by entering the NE room and walk straight to the power station, did one earlier with no clearing needed

                        • My main gripe with the quest journal is the quests that spawn additional quests, like the MMM key and Crystallos key quests spawning the MMM explore and Crystallos explore quests. I really don't want my quest journal bloated with four extra quests until my guild is capable of beating the raids, which could take years.

                          Comment

                          • Explore Crystallos takes patience, but it is doable solo, no need for raids there = But you will still be stuck with Beyond the Barrier until such a time you get a item from MMM, which could look like a raid thing, don't know yet.

MMM exploration is another thing. My guild is top of the ladder on the server, and I can't get groups to go there. Been there once for the warrior core, and a few times in correlation to getting people crystallos bases and a few of the explore locations. One of those times was in raid formation during the holidays, since that was what was usefull with the low numbers online. I am still missing one step on the MMM exploration. It is a harsh zone, but like all other places, it just needs to be broken, so I just hope to find some people, who wants to go and is willing to die for the learning curve.

But yeah, would have been nice if the exploration locations was just another few step in the main quest, rather than a new spawned quest.

Ok, that was totally off topic.

One thing I have observed about groups is that almost every drop is considered FFA, except Exquisite Marrow, Exquisite Spinneret Fluid and Porous Loam, those are /rand 1k every time. On Seventh they are priced 350k the last time I saw in the bazaar.

The overall drop rate seems reasonable atm. one should not expect to get that type of armor without spending a lot of time loosing to group on bad rolls, and giving us ts questers more openings to get our ts drops in for instance Steam Factory ;-) If not geared for SF, then spell farming a easier spot can make one able to buy the stuff in the same amount of time, even at the current price. Overall for the drop implementation, thumbs up from me.

                            • Is there a walkthrough for this quest on EQTraders? The quest section seems to only have old quests.

I've completed the quest, but could write a walkthrough condensing all the previous posts and my own experience, if it can be hosted here.

I might do a random if I am with people I do not know (which is not too often), but 95+% of the time we pool the resources and have one person sell in the bazaar and split the proceeds with group members later. It takes a bit of trust, but the members are either long time friends or guildmates and we have yet to have any issues.
