This is definately a new quest, for those who think it's an old quest revamped.

After hailing Sir Artanis, I gained the scroll which I handed to the Oracle. If you read through the text that he gave, he mentions his assistant. Now this assistant is a NEW NPC, since the patch, standing nearby.

Guess it's time to dig into the Hole again ...

Here's how it's supposed to work....

You give the Oracle a book, he gives you instructions on how to build a phylactery.

The first book he wants is the Tome of Miragul. The fifth book is the Sanguine Tome. The sixth book is Velketor's Spellbook.

Only after all 6 books are turned in will you be able to learn how to complete the phylactery. (Though whether or not the quest must be done in order to create the item has yet to be seen)

I am trying to talk the raiding force of which I am a member into ransacking the Hole to look for the Tome of Miragul. Hopefully they'll help out. Hopefully we can set up a Velk hit soon, too.

This is apparently the evil version:

Qrixat Du`voy says ''You have performed admirably in the past, so I shall overlook your tardiness responding to my call. One of our own has heeded the call of Solusek Ro over that of Innoruuk and is conspiring with that other traitorous cur, Opal Dark Briar. The wizard Salarz is a Teir'Dal now in the hands of the Knights of Marr in Freeport, but we have good information connecting him with the Dismal Rage and the Temple of Solusek Ro in a plot to create a phylactery. Somehow, this is connected to the news you brought from Befallen about the resurrection of Marnek. One who might know the answer is the oracle in the Ocean of Tears. Seek him out and learn what is required to create a phylactery so that we will remain one step ahead of any others. Go now and take this letter for the oracle with you!''

Qrixat can be found in the Cleric Guild in Neriak's Third Gate. She's in the room directly across from the merchant that sells hate stones, next to High Priestess Alexandria.

Anyway, I remembered... relieving the Oracle of his robe a time or two back in my younger days but I wasn't sure if I'd trashed my faction or not, so I decided to check it out.

Assistant Jeyular glares at you threateningly -- You could probably win this fight.
Oracle of K`Arnon glares at you threateningly -- You could probably win this fight.
Guardian of K`Arnon says 'The single death of a member of the Paladins of Tunare shall plague your wretched life.'
Guardian of K`Arnon slashes YOU for 19 points of damage.
Guardian of K`Arnon slashes YOU for 95 points of damage.
Guardian of K`Arnon slashes YOU for 95 points of damage.
Guardian of K`Arnon slashes YOU for 63 points of damage.

Right. Had to gate out in order to keep from making my faction worse by smiting the little pasty. After that I ran my Druid to every island in OOT hoping that maybe they'd put the Oracle of Marud in for those of us who'd killed the Oracle of K'Arnon a few times too many, but saw neither him nor any other unfamiliar NPC's on track.

Well gathing 6 dropped books from all over norrath still has 0 tradeskills in it and not something everyone is going to be able to do like the Solstice Earring. Lame.

Also as of 2pm the oracle is not up on Rodcet Nife, he could have been gm or player killed though his assistant and guard are still in the same spot.

Opal Dark Briar is a traitor?

I always figured she was the means by which the necromancers of Neriak controlled the Dismal Rage and spied on the other intelli-casters of Freeport.

            Odd...

Shared wolf form did not change the Faction of the assistant nor did it change the guardian.

Opal Dark Briar left the Dismal Rage (which was known as the Divine Rage until they were trounced by the people of Freeport during the Long Night) and created the Church of the First Born. That might be why she is branded a traitor.

Remember that this is the "Quest Requiring Tradeskills" forum--not the "Quests Requiring Nothing But Tradeskills" forum. The tradeskills will come once we actually get people to turn in (very expensive) books.

Yeah you're probably right I do hope that the books are NOT required to actually make the item and only to obtain the recipie.

I'm keeping an eye on it. If this eventually ends up not involving tradeskills this'll get moved to OOC. But we can give it a chance. There aren't so many threads in Quests right now that things are moving off the front page too fast.

Don't see any tradeskill stuff in this quest yet :/
Possibly because the only thing that's been done so far is the note turn-in?

                      From this thread:

Of course you know that every EQrpg product contains clues to exclusive new online quests. Yes, the quests have been a while in implementation, but the next one makes the delay worth the wait. A huge quest that rivals the POTC trade skill quest goes live on October 8th, 2003. In fact, the rewards for the quest are superior to the POTC earrings (EQo players know what we mean), and one of the rewards can even be attained without the complexity of the trade skill portion of the quest.

Remember the oldie but goodie, the Robe of the Oracle? Well, like the rest of Norrath's inhabitants, the Oracle thought it was high time for him to upgrade, so he's about to unveil his Grand Robe of the Oracle. Or for the clerics, druids, and shamans among you, he has a Grand Tunic of the Oracle to offer. The Oracle will want your Velious robe/armor in exchange but take his word for it, it¹s a trade you want to make.

And the other item? How about a phylactery like the one that enabled Miragul's transformation into a lich? With EverQuest trade skills, anything is possible!

Itzena Alhazared, Revenant of {Planeteers}, Vallon Zek. And also a seamstress.
Gelcea Macha, Wandering Animist of Tarew Marr. Will be a smith, one day.

hopefully it will require drops from the planes that are either lower teir planes with open access or better yet only need it for the recipe instead of the actual phylactery and the peices to make the phylactery are on old-world stuff. will be much less uber player camping that way i would think. hard to get them out of pop or ldon.

Gave Assistant Jeyular a Tome of Miragul and got back a nodrop lore sugar and the following message:

An auspicious beginning. To reward your start, I will enlighten you with the secret of palatable mana, which is required to create a phylactery, but also has independent uses as well. Brew it like wine, but include a vial of mana as created by the ablest enchanters plus a pinch of this special sugar as well as grapes that can be grown only by the halflings of Rivervale. When you are ready to continue with the next step, return with the history of the Di`Zok and give it to me.

Gave Assistant Jeyular a History of the Di`Zok from the wonderful bazaar and got a nodrop lore pattern of sorts and the following message:

Excellent work. This book is not easily come by. This next step is the first of creating components for the phylactery iteself, the silk insert. This is the base inside of the box and it must be made of durable stone silk to withstand the energies within a phylactery. When you are ready to continue with the next step, return the long-lost Journal of Aataltaal to me. His tomb is rumored to be in the Hills of Shade, and while I doubt this is true, rumor depends on some truths so somewhere nearby is where to discover this book.

I haven't tried any combines yet, but going to try brewing up some paltable mana later and ponder about stone silk.

Hmmm, this is looking a bit more like AG then PoTC - if you need these no drop components to do each of the 6 peices of the end reward...

Ah well, no point in worrying about this until someone completes the quest - kinda choked though - I could have gotten the book from Velks a while back but didn't - ah well, spilled milk and all.

                              Special grapes, maybe?

If these grapes can only be grown in Rivervale, have any foragers tried foraging in Misty Thicket or Rivervale itself to see if any kind of "thicket grapes" or something comes up?

Also, I would think that if he means a vial of mana "made by the ablest enchanters" he wants a vial of purified mana (i.e. the 4 rubies).

The Hills of Shade are on Faydwer. On the map included with the game, they are between the Lesser Faydark and the Butcherblock Mountains.
