  • crafter's charm book

found the book in crescent reach, off of merchant "Potter Subira".... in the book it says

"it came to me one day that the method to make the trophies that are made using pottery could be used to make a charm that would enhance one's abilities as one's skill in tradeskills increased. in this case, one will need to make their own special clay, by grinding up some special ingredients and working it into a normal small black of magic clay. you must be sure to make this clay using the appropriate toolkit for the trade, a forge for smithing, a jewelry kit for jewelry making, each appropriate to the skill."

"once you have made the special clay, you will find it very similar to the trophies. make your unfired charm using the special clay, a mounted jacinth, diamond, blue diamond, and black sapphire, with the normal amount of water to help you work the charm into shape. you will also fire it in the same manner with a high quality firing sheet, but you will find that due to the gemstones on the unfired charm it is a very touchy firing. you can expect to fail every fourth try, but you will also find the firing to be an educational experience."

"for alchemist ceramic clay you will need to find medicinal moss and grind it with the three burdock root, bugbane and duskglow vine."

"for baker ceramic clay you will need very finely chop some steppes retile meat and combine it in the clay with a cup of flour, 2 egg batters, a cup of sugar and a bottle of milk"

"for brewing ceramic clay you will need to finely grind a basilisk scale in the clay and mix it with barely, malt and water."

"for fletcher ceramic clay you will need to sacrifice a leopard intestine that would be perfect for a catgut string, and chop it up very finely and mix it in the clay with a clump of wax and a gnomish heat source to dry it a bit."

"for jeweler ceramic clay you will grind down some stonemight silver into a powder along with a peridot, mix it in the clay with grinding powder and hydroabrasive."

"for mechanic ceramic clay you will need to grind down some vergalid slave manacles and two seet of gears and mix that with the clay and golden ember powder."

"for potter ceramic clay you will actually need to mix a vergalid clay, a normal small block of clay and some golden ember powder."

"for researcher ceramic clay you will need to dry and grind down drake wing webbing and a quill of the arcane and mix that with the clay and ink additive of the nameless, soothing thickener and ink of prexus."

"for smith ceramic clay you will need to crush some steppes ore, a small brick of high quality ore, and even a file, and mix it with the clay and a simple flask of water."

"for tailor ceramic clay you will need a good collection of sil to mix in with the clay. you will need wasp spider silk, spider silk, spiderling silk, a silk swatch and a silk thread."

"for toxicologist ceramic clay you will need the get the poison from a razorback venom sac and mix it into the clay with soot hemlock, red hellebore and putrid bile."

"and finally, you can also make an artisan's ceramic clay but for this you will have to collect all the harder to get components from the previous clay. you will need steppes reptile meat, basilisk scale, leopard intestines, stonemight silver, vergalid clay, steppes ore, and wasp spider silk, along with golden ember powder. this clay will be attuned to all seven of the major tradeskills, and the seal will adjust itself accodingly."

steppes retile meat - confirmed drop from snakes and lizards in The Steppes
basilisk scale - confirmed drop from Basalisks in Sunderrock Springs
leopard intestines - confirmed drop from leopards in The Steppes
wasp spider silk - confirmed drop from Wasp Spiders in The Steppes

stonemight silver - assuming this is from any stonemight in The Steppes. Killed a few dozen but no luck so far.

vergalid clay - my first guess on this is the Vergalid Smiths outside of Vergalid mines. The or from the mines themselves. Killed 6 of the smiths, 10 slaves and a handful of mobs inside Vergalid but no luck so far.

steppes ore - no clue. 1st guess was from the elementals in Steppes but only rare thing they have dropped so far is elemental clay quest item. Killed about 40 of the gnolls near Icefall Glacier zone and only ore they had was unrefined ore. Did not try to kill any tree because that would not make sense but maybe centaurs or giants (I did not mess with either of them).

The ones I found so far (silk, meat, scale and intestines) are all tradeable so I assume they all will be. They also all came off mobs that con'ed light blue at lvl 73. That leads me to believe the vergalid clay will drop from mobs outside vergalid in sunderrock (since the mobs inside the mines are all dark blue) and that the steppes ore is not from the giants since they are all dark blue as well. The reptylle meat and silk both stack, I do not remember if the scale and intestines do.

you will need to dry and grind down
How do you "dry" something? And is the "grind down" part done with a mortal and pestle?

To dry it, place it in a smoker?

I have come to nearly the same conclusions as you (seems as if we did mostly the same stuff). I will add that:

                - I only got wasp spider silk from the Mature Wasp Spiders inside the caves, but it could perhaps drop from the lesser versions.
                - I only got steppes reptile meat from snakes, though it may drop from the aligator-like mobs (old style basilisks) though I killed a ton of them and never had one drop.
                - I killed many a stonemight in The Steppes as well with no ore to be found.
                - I also killed elementals for ore in The Steppes and did not find the ore there either. I will continue to check around when I can.
                - Got scales form basilisks in Sunderock.

I got a steppes reptylle meat from both a snake and a basalisk model (lizard).
My silk came from a spider outside of the cave.

Still no luck on the last 3 :-(

I have posted the Researcher Charm recipe into the Data collection forum.

At 300+15% pottery, I failed the Klin combine. So the source book is not kidding when it says "you can expect to fail every fourth try".

So, please someone correct me if I am wrong. From what I can read, if you want the artisan's charm, which advances with all tradeskills, you don't have to make each charm separately then combine, but rather collect all the rare drop items and combine in a single combine? Is this right? Can someone please confirm? Thanks.

That's what it sounds like to me as well Taushar, but until someone actually makes one and posts about it, we can't be 100% positive

While i was on beta i did this. You only needed the rare mob droped ingredient from each of the 7 main tradeskills. Then combine those 7 items with some other store bought junk. You didnt have to make each of the charms, thx god.
Though they might have changed it.

Unfortunately, I found the drake wing webbing on a vendor. So cannot provide any information on where it drops.
