    Fmn.

That screenshot looks extremely sketchy to me. As in the "someone hacked this together using MSPaint" kind of sketchy.

Seems sorta silly for them to let you paint your skin blue, wouldn't you say?

Well my guess (and if the silly thing would be put on the site I wouldn't have to guess) is the "body" will be the actual armor color base, and then you can add item tints and see the results. If your armor is yellow, you could add a blue tint and make green perhaps. Or if the armor is black, and you want it to be red, you will need to apply several tints in order to "paint" over the dark black color.

"The Legacy of Ykesha™ introduces a new form of armor dye to EverQuest. Unlike the old armor dyes that only worked when combining certain ingredients with certain pieces of armor, the new system will allow players to dye any piece of armor that is visible in a certain location. (These windows and the function of this feature may change.)

Players will be able to decide what color they want any of their visible locations to be and set a 'tint' of that color on that location. The tint is applied to the location, not to the specific item in that location. Each change will require the use of a magical component that is expended when the tint is saved. Clicking on the Body Tint for any of these locations will bring up the color chooser window.

Players can choose any of the pre-defined colors, or enter any valid number for each of the color values (Red, Green and Blue) to make any custom tint they desire. Once this tint is saved, any item placed in the dyed location will take on that color. This is a tint, though, not a change to the basic texture of the armor. It is not possible to remove colors inherent to the armor, so some armor pieces will tint differently than others.
We've created a few pictures to show you the kind of variety that players will be able to create using this Legacy of Ykesha feature."

Until more information on what these reagents it speaks of are, there is really no cause for any sort of comment about how shafted you might feel.

Personally, I'd be delighted if there was ZERO tradeskilling involved in this.

From the look of it, the system will work a lot like hair restyle deeds in UO did. That suits me just fine.

As for the thing about people in black...well, that's a no-brainer. But the thing is, most top end armor is already black. Vindi BP, boots of flowing slime, gauntlets of dragon slaying, and artificer ringmail armor already puts me at dark/grey black in nearly every visible slot.

Most likely things that we'll see within a few days of LoY

1000s of people in all black: No doubt here, for some reason black is 'cool' even though it makes you an uninteresting black smudge on the screen.
Someone is bright pink: Always someone who has to make some sorta statement and be a bright, neon pink paladin just to get giggles.
A wide variety of green colored rangers and druids. Most of em are already green, and much of the rest will go green too.
Red gloves and red boots. Blood anyone?
Some weird, sick bastard who carefully chooses a color set that clashes so much the zone they're in will crash repeatedly.

I just really dislike the part about once you tint an area, anything you put in that area will be that color. BLECH. I want to know how something looks naturally before I go dying it.

The dye system doesn't really sway me enough into being interested enough to buy Legacy of Ykesha.

Seems to me that the tinting is only really going to be obvious on light colored armor. A black peice of armor isn't going to look very different no matter how you tint it.

Also it doesn't look like tinting will work on old models. Due to not having the greatest computer in the world, I have the newer models off.

Of course, I'm as disappointed as the rest of the people that this tinting won't deal with tradeskills like we had hoped.

how disappointing. I sorta like my armor combo. As a monk, my armor mostly looks like leather, but I've assembled a collection that (to me at least) is pretty distinct. Some of my gear is Dark Red / Black and it's rather 'rare', which is nice. I dont look like every other monk.

With this new tinting, I don't see any reason why there wont be low level monks running around with my exact same look.

I'd imagine Int-caster/Robe types would have it even worse, when everyone can have the same 'elite' pink robe. (or whatever). Lots of robe wearers I know carry around bag(s) of different robes. Guess that's sorta dated now.

Maybe if they made a whole batch of new textures / patterns instead of the small set of ones. That seems unlikely to happen.

On an "up" note, It will be nice to finally dye that one last 'slot' that I cant get to match the rest of my armor...

                            WTB leather bleach

OK I had already resigned myself to looking like a scullery maid - the crystal chitin stuff is too hard to get and not many other choices that don't look like green or brown leather.

So, I was a little excited about this feature and the option of making that leather some other colors, and bought the expansion anyhow for bank space. But if they are just tinting the way described it appears in their desription:

Brown + most colors -> shades of brown
Brown + intense "cool" colors (blues, greens, purples) -> very muddy version of the color.
Dark Green + yellow or blue -> dark slightly tinted green
Dark Green + other colors -> dark brown

I guess if I can get some green armor I can go for some dark teals and limes, but I don't like those colors much. And I don't want to look like a goth hobbit in black, thank you very much.

/auction WTB bleach for leather armor

I'm wondering what effect this will have on bazaar prices for some items due to the problems of tinting over certain colors.

I can see crystal chitin going up (decent armor with a very light color) and leaf scale gloves and iksar hide boots going down (hard to recolor iridescent dark green)

Heheh, I can see more male monks wearing the crystal covered shroud at lower levels again. "You mean I can ditch this lavender color?!"
